    Me: not bad

also me calling tradies for pricing/labour costs: pretty bad

  • Australia’s favourite air!

    • +2

      Thanks, Tubby.

  • what kind of installation costs are we looking at in metro Sydney?

    • +2

      Probably around 1k nowadays.

      • would replacement of old aircon be cheaper?

        • How much of a price reduction are you hoping for, in dollar terms? Please note that we'll need to dismantle the old unit and dispose of it as well.

          • @jjj123: What sort of cost am I looking at for a new install where electrical connection has already been provisioned? All the installer needs to do is install indoor and outdoor unit and connect the outdoor unit to the isolator switch on the external wall. Any ideas?

          • +1

            @jjj123: Not sure, that's why I'm asking.
Assuming power line is already installed, pipes are inside the wall, all holes are made. Looks like much less work in general

            • @kanu666: I think the installer will charge less but might need to replace the wires dues his liability. I guess.

        • Not sure if you've received any quotes for this. I'm also replacing existing air cons and have been quoted 1400 plus gst for the replacement of 2 air cons (fuj 5.1 and 7kw) in Sydney metro. I'm not sure if this is about right or too cheap (concerned they will cut corners and not replace any wires even if they may be required)

  • 5Kw Aircon will need a direct wire to your main switch is what I been told. And you need an electrician licence to do it.

Installation cost on larger model will be more expensive in general.

    • Yes, will need dedicated circuit regardless of size.
Work is the same whether 7kw or 3kw. Slightly heavier unit and larger fuse. Can't understand the big jump in price.

      • I believe there is a requirement (AS/NZS 3000) that 5kW units and above requires dedicated electrical circuit and anything under can use existing wiring, might be what nik was referring to.

Edit to add the electrical codes.

  • Compatible with the anywAiR usb dongle (doesn't come with it though) which is good which also integrates into home assistant if you go down that path.

    • Are you using one of these? I'm thinking of retrofitting a USB dongle to mine, but not sure if it'll be worth integrating with HA.

Wife has issues pressing buttons and uses the app on phone and it can be operated remotely so on way home I would turn it on sometimes.

Home assistant dont need, i just like to use HA app as dont need multiple apps for multiple devices and realistically all i am using it for is for mornings when it was cold, i would grab the temp from hallway and lounge room temp from sensor and if if was under 17 degrees at 6am it would turn it on automatically.

    • doubled the cost of the Sensibo WiFi Controller

Buy an AC, pay another AC as installation cost. Me feeling sad

for a small room, 2.5kw is enough, right?

  • My 7.1Kw Fujitsu died after 6 years (PCB board and Compressor failed) and tech advised not worth repairing.

He advised that Fujitsu units are not recommended and recommended opting for an MHI instead, which are a lot more expensive

    • was the tech from Fujitsu or 3rd party?

      • 3rd party tech. Recommended
        - MHI
        - Samsung
        - Hisense

        • +1

You may need to contact Fujitsu directly.

They have good reviews and a major failure - such as a PCB board or compressor,

will most likely be covered under the statutory warranty, even at six years - your 3rd party guy should have advised you of this…

          Samsung, really???

If someone is looking for a cheap and reliable brand, try Midea/TCL.

          • @jjj123: It's quite hard to reach them directly as they bounce around multiple times, but from what I have been told by them from memory was it was out of warranty and couldn't support further.

Any suggestions on how I can claim the statutory warranty?

I was surprised both of those components had failed and a new unit is needed as its not worth repairing.

Yeah Samsung.. not sure why that was even in the list

            • +1

@SlushyDrop: State clearly in writing that you wish to claim the warranty under the statutory warranty provisions and include the following link in your email.

              https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/rights-and-law/consumer-rights/…

              Example
You bought a microwave oven for $400, which had 12 months warranty. After 13 months it stopped working. You have the right of repair or replacement because it's likely you expected it to last longer. If you bought a microwave for $45 and the same thing happened, the same rights might not apply. The price compared to the time the microwave was expected to last is different.

@jjj123: If you don’t receive a response, you can leave a review here so Fujitsu can contact you:

              • @jjj123: Thanks for the info. Would it be the same case for VIC?

Also, sorry I double checked and I had the unit installed in Jan 2018, so longer than the 6 years I mentioned above and is closing in to 8 years soon. Would I have the same amount of luck with that?

If chances are slim, I am thinking of buying a similar unit as replacement to take advantage of the cashback offer.
