  • is it worth getting the 9800x3d over this, since theyre on same am5 platform

    • +18

Depends on the use case. If you're just gaming, then nah. If you're doing processing work, probably nah too

      • +8

so nah nah? not nah yeah, or yeah nah, or…

        • +1

Not worth getting the 9800X3D over this.

          • @marshmall0w2: Hi can you please tell me is it trustworthy buying here and what about warranty??? FYI I’m buying first time in Aliexpress

            • +2

              @Hemanth:

Hi can you please tell me is it trustworthy buying here

              Yes.

              and what about warranty???

              What's that?

              • @CrispyChrispy: Thank you for explaining me and I was talking about processor warranty which is 3 years, how it’s gonna work?

                I just bought it
                Thanks again

          • @marshmall0w2: yeah, that's what hardwareunboxed says. i can't even remember the usecases where intel has an edge per $ spent

but i'm only a degenerate gamer what do i know

    • +6

How much extra $ is the 9800X3D?
How much extra fps is the 9800X3D in the games that you play?

Question on whether it's "worth" is only one that you can answer.

Some people just want the best of the best, and others are looking at $/performance value.

      • Just updated the deal with an ATL on the 9800X3D.

      • +6

~$300 extra. Not really worth. It's more for min-maxers, all or nothing mfs like myself.

        • +9

One of those times where I agree with you.

        • +1

If you're making a new build and already spending 2000+ dollars I'd go for it.

    • -2

Depends on how far back you can push your motherboard and CPU upgrade, because there'll be a 9700X3D at some point in the next few months, and then there's Zen 6 that's expected to increase the core count substantially (and potentially hybridised core designs and NPUs being more mainstream on desktop).

I would say at least wait for the 9700X3D and then target that in March AliE sales.

      • Zen 6 expected to be on the same platform right? So a one can upgrade from a 7800X3D to a X3D chip from Zen 6 down the line if I'm not mistaken.

        • Yes it is, my point was more that I don't expect a 9700X3D to be a massive jump in price compared to this deal. Now might be a better time for a staged GPU upgrade if your current CPU can handle the strain (eg. someone is on 10th gen Intel or Zen 3).

          • +1

@jasswolf: Thanks, I was about to buy the 9800X3D anyway and upgrade, then I saw the DDR5 & motherboard prices and cancelled my plans. I am still on AM4 with a 5800X (not x3D), so was shocked to see these motherboard & RAM prices. I'll wait for things to settle down I guess on that front and upgrade next year maybe.

      • +1
        • -3

I get that, but I think it will still happen. The 7800X3D binning didn't happen IMO because they were going to swap fab space and push clock wall with Zen 5.

          You're seeing 7600X3D and 7500X3D options instead.

      • +2

THERE IS NO 9700X3D DO NOT MAKE PLANS AROUND IT LAUNCHING

        https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1orc6jl/my_fr…

        • +3

The recent rumour was faked, and there are no confirmed plans, yes. I'm saying it seems likely, because Zen 6 will be on a new process, while enterprise will still be buying Zen 5 in the mean time, so there will be chiplet dies that get binned down and sold, eventually in a way that generates either a 9700X3D or a cut price revision of the 9800X3D.

Zen 4 and Zen 5 were on the same process, so Zen 4 binning didn't really happen in that way due to a combination of process maturation and supply being wound down to serve enterprise rather than consumers.

  • Came to $392.80 for me without having to do any currency change, paypal gave me $12 off, and I used the above codes. ATL?

    • As long as your bank isn't going to slap on a currency conversion fee then that's definitely a new low.

      • +1

It shouldn't, I had it all marked as AUD, I did not change on the site to USD. Says on the invoice all AUD, same on paypal.
Still good find, should be ATL ether method.

        • +2

Can confirm $392.80 AUD ATL, no need to change SIte to USD, did have to use Incognito as codes were not working, excited

    • +1

same $392.80 no currency change, cheapest 7800x3d online in Australia is $629

  • +3

Was waiting for this for the past month. Thanks for this

  • Hey just looking for some advice guys :-)

I can't have an i7 12 700 is this worth the upgrade? I am planning on changing my motherboard as it is quite small so that's not an issue just to know if the performance would be better :-) thank you

  • I've never purchased from AliExpress before, and since its a critical component for my build, I'm a bit hesitant. Has anyone had a positive experience with this seller before?

    • +7

Here's the store page on OzBargain with all the previous deals.

    • +3

Can vouch for this store, used them for their previous 7700 deal and it works perfectly. Arrived in 10-11 days I believe.

      • -1

It's not about store only. Hardware can be defected… Have you ever tried to return something to china?

        • +2

It's a CPU - they're the most reliable thing in your PC.

    • +1

I bought a Ryzen 7700 from this store a few weeks ago, and it was defective. Took me forever to figure it out.

That being said, return & refund was simple & easy (just like Amazon) - and I think I did just get unlucky. I'm probably even going to grab this one again too and give it another go.

      • What was the defect?
I bought 9800X3D a while ago and it works most of the time but sometimes system goes black and all fans full speed. It might happen once a week or 5 times a day - I can't see any dependency on software - sometimes it happens on login screen before I touch the PC.

I swapped memory, multiple BIOS upgrades, multiple GPU driver updates…
Last week swapped CPU for another 9800X3D (had to buy locally) and so far no strange reboots.
I will test for few more weeks and then will swap CPUs back again to verify if it brings issues back.

I am building PC for for family and friends for 20+ years and this is the first time I could not get system to run stable. Also the first time I bought CPU from Aliexpress.

I am not 100% confiden the CPU is the problem in my case and I will have hard time proving it to the seller.

        • +3

Something between the CPU and PCIe link was defective. I don't know enough for all the details - but basically, I wouldn't get display out/detection on my GPU (9070). Windows would boot and run fine, but only on integrated, which made it confusing, since the CPU + iGPU ran ok. Made me think the GPU was defective. It was intermittent also.

Went to my local store to diagnose and we ended up trying everything (RAM, GPU, PSU) and ended up replacing the entire motherboard, to the same result.

Eventually tried a new CPU and has been perfect since (we also did a reseat just in case).

The other signs I had was it wouldn't boot with EXPO, undervolted poorly, and the little time I had it working, was sometimes crashing in games with all stock settings.

          • @Callum1080:

Just curious, was this intermittent (eg. every once in a while it would do this) or you couldn't get signal out of your GPU at all?

Wondering because my i5 12600KF/7700XT did something similar in that periodically (sometimes 40mins into using the PC, sometimes never at all during that week) my system would lose display signal from my GPU and I'd have to reboot and reinstall my GPU drivers again… I threw my 7700XT into my brother's PC and it's been working fine on that, so it's either a) the riser cable I've been using, b) the mobo or c) the CPU if it had the issue yours had… Thanks.

            • +1

@CrispyChrispy: It was intermittent at first - but became permanent in just a few days. First boot/windows install all was working fine.

Once I tried to enable EXPO is when I got the first boot but with no display, once back to default it would work.

Around the next day was when I had the first crash and no display out with EXPO disabled, but basic troubleshooting steps would get it back (clearing CMOS, reseating etc)

The day after that I took it into the store we got it to display out once, and then never again (after hours of trying).

So could be similar? But over a couple days, the CPU basically self destructed on me. After all the troubleshooting we went through, I can't imagine I was ever going to get it to display out again after that.

  • Wow, great looking deal! Fingers crossed for a 9800x3d deal

    • +5

Just updated the post with one.

      • Purchased! First time off Ali-express though so a little nervous. Thank you bro

  • +3

Very very tempting. Any recommendations for a motherboard deal?

    • Looking out for this as well

      • +3

i picked up a Gigabyte B850 aorus elite wifi 7 off Big W market for $304.69 decent board compared to the rest of the ATX lineup, has an internal hdmi output and no lane share which ticked my boxes.

        • +2

That may be the best option for the $300 mark which is my range, thank you for sharing I shall do my research

        • +2

          Purchased, thank you :)

        • +2

Same, I've been well and truly OzBargained. There I was trying to save some money, and BANG!

        • +1

The Aorus Elite B850 is on the top of my list for my AM5 upgrade. Looks great, and has some pretty good temps.

        • +1

Holy shit that's a great deal. $300 was my mobo budget as well and was having massive paralysis between a low end B850 and mid B650.
          Edit: bought it

          • @ribze1: glad to help, i spend way to much time bargin hunting, made a post for it, thanks

  • +1

    thats crazy price.

  • Just bought a second hand 9800x3d for $500. I should've waited… oh well lol.

  • I don't think this is eligible for Shopback cashback:
    "You won't get Cashback on:

Purchases from China, Resellers and Fraudulent activities"

    • +5

Whoever writes Shopback's terms is stupid. They mean to say it's invalid for people purchasing from China when in reality they can't order from AliExpress anyway.

      • Oh that makes sense, thanks.

    • +1

EDIT: It is eligible. Thanks to Clear below for clarifying.

  • 5700x3d -> 9800x3d…. worth it?

    • Didn't check the first comment?

  • +4

Thanks Clear, any sign of a 7700 deal?

    Cheers!

    • +2

Sadly not at this stage. When I asked AliExpress I was instead provided with the 7600X for US$144.25 (~A$222.40) with coupon AU1141 and US$8 off with PayPal. Stacks with cashback.

    • +1

Ditto, I'm sad I missed the last deal on the 7700. $215 for that CPU would be an instabuy for me…

      • +1

Just bought a 7700 from same store for US$169.38 (~A$259.52) with coupon AU1141 and US$8 off with PayPal using a credit card with no international fees stacked with Shopback cashback for returning customers 17.5% which tracked at $A42.14 for a total of A$217.38 after cashback.

        • +1

          Well done!

        • Yes, shortly after I posted I realised its fairly close anyway - purchased. Thanks Clear!

  • Can't you get a further 10-15% from shopback?

    • +2

      Yep A$50.

  • Why is mine $430 USD. Mm

    • Managed to get the 9800x3d for $605. Came up at $690 when i went via shopback.

      Thanks very much OP

  • @Clear I need my cheap 5700x pls lol

  • +1

Any deal on 9600X? Or 9700X?

      • Same store is selling 9700x for USD 227 after codes. With cashback it will come to 317 aud approximately.

        • AUD $150 .. OVER DOUBLE the price for around 5-7% more FPS in games is not worth it. 8 cores is good for workstations though

  • +1

Just ordered mine, as did a mate. Fingers crossed we don't get any duds, but reviews seem good!
Now just to see if I can find an AM5 bracket for my Corsair H105 AIO cooler… if anyone has guidance it'd be greatly appreciated!

Edit: nvm realised my cooler is 11 years old so buying a new one LOL

  • +2

Paid $625 for AU stock (9800X3D) in recent Mwave deal :) CPUs here will not have a warranty in AU if I understand correctly?

Maybe wait and see if Mwave do another promo like the recent Codechella one.

    • +1

I feel you man! I just bought a 9800X3D for $599 from Metrocom a few days ago. I did contemplate buying from Aliexpress but didn't want to risk it, in case there was an (unlikely) issue. With that being said, I've dealt with Metrocom before and had a product issue. They were beyond excellent to deal with and it feels right that I return and buy something else.

      • +1

9800X3D for $599? Or do you mean the 7800X3D?

        • +1

          Oops - my bad. 7800X3D.

  • Got 7900x3d a year ago for $550 (from a deal I posted). Is it worth upgrading to 9800x3d?

  • AU1195 and AU1176 Not working anymore?

    • +3

There's alternative codes in the mega post.

      AUOF95 AUWF95
      AUOF70 AUWF70

  • +1

My experience so far (it's been a few months so i can't speak about longevity but with the CPU being fine i would say it'll be ok for a long while) has been great from the last sale, i ended up getting 7800X3D and a Maxsun B650 ITX board (with vouchers/cashback and the OzB credit thing) for around $430-$450AUD, and super lucky to have gotten DDR5 before everything went to sh*t there … if you are in the market for one i would recommend.

    • +2

I grabbed some 32GB DDR5 RAM off eBay a little over 2 months ago for $100. It's insane to think of what it would've been listed for now.

  • I have a 7600x in my sim racing rig (triple 1440p screens) and was thinking of moving to the 7800x3d. So far i can't find a single benchmark in the games i play that suggest i should upgrade, which is a bummer. Sure high resolution (7680x1440p) suggests the GPU is more important but I was assuming the physics engine would require the grunt. Or is x3d just a latency thing/better for vr?

    • +2

wait for Zen6 15-20% more performance is not worth it when Zen6 X3D you will be looking at over 50% faster the 7600x

  • Was in the market for 7800x3D for 1440p gaming. Have ryzen 3 in my current rig. I’m afraid to pull the plug cuz I don’t have any AM5 Mobo or Ram for now to test the new CPU. What are the chances of getting a CPU that’s dead on arrival? Waiting for good deals on X870 AORUS STEALTH ICE and DDR5 Ram on Black friday.

    • chances of getting a CPU that’s dead on arrival are low but always think of purchases though Ali express as second hand. Not easy to get warranty claims with Aliexpress but if you pay with paypal you can claim it was a DOA CPU if you could test it ASAP

      • Any ideas on how to do it as I don’t currently gave the AM5 hardware to do the testing. Cheers

        • +2

Do you have a friend who has AM5 or call and ask a PC store if they can do it for you.. (ask them how much it would cost?) The last 7 CPU's i've got from Aliexpress have all worked fine.

5 x 7500F and 2x 7700 from random sellers with 4.9 Star rating and lots of reviews :) also (2) Two of the 7500F CPU's i got for $119 were labeled and sold as (used) second hand

          • @vid_ghost: If you're gonna pay a shop to test it for you, may as well buy locally - whats the point !!
They wont charge anywhere less than $100 if in Sydney I reckon !

            better phone a friend !

With the used 7500 you got, did the listing specify they were used ?

            • +1

@51ngh: Yes.. the listing was used and the ozbargain post for it stated used

  • +3

Just bought a 7800x3D and got $50 tracked from Shopback

    • +1

      just did this! thanks

  • What does "without Package" in the description "AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Game CPU R7 9800X3D Up to 5.2GHz 8-Core 16-Thread 96MB Cache AM5 Desktop Gaming Processor without Package" mean?

    • +2

It only comes in a plastic CPU clamshell.. no AMD cardboard retail box

    • +2

It's an OEM tray version so it'll come in the plastic tray instead of retail box.
