$85 cheaper than Scorptec, available through Big W market, which is dropshipping, Looks like an imported reseller; everyday rewards points earned if you have it are a bonus.

Amazing value board, Wifi 7, 3 x M.2s, no Thunderbolt 4, internal HDMI output for those internal displays, and the rare feature of not sharing any CPU lanes with any of its m.2s and the primary x16 slot, unlike 90% of the x870/e boards that do.

      • Thanks. Looks good for the price. Is seller reliable?

        • I've been looking but can't find anything about them (reviews, contact info, location). Their terms say "Returns may take approximately 4 weeks to arrive back with our returns team in NZ to process," but there is no business registered under that named in NZ.

          Hopefully the F isn't their letter-grade haha

          • @upliftcontrol: Watching this space. Hopefully someone can report back.

            • @racingmiku: I ordered a 1000w be quiet psu as well as the board.

Was given 2 tracking numbers with Auspost

The PSU arrived today. Fragile tape all over. Cardboard paper padding inside. Still shrink wrapped. Looks good.

Board will arrive later this week according to seperate tracking number.

          • @upliftcontrol: Did some looking; past Ozbargain posts showed that reseller to be linked to Catch.com and Mydeal.com, since both are now defunct/absolved, unsure if that a problem.

I've bought stuff from MyDeal before, and it was no issue. MyDeal is now Big W market apparently.

I received auspost tracking number, will keep you informed

  • the rare feature of not sharing any CPU lanes with any of its m.2s and the primary x16 slot, unlike 90% of the x870/e boards that do.

Um… not according to the specs page, the 3rd M.2 slot:

    1 x M.2 connector (M2C_SB), integrated in the Chipset

    2 x PCI Express x16 slots, supporting PCIe 3.0 and running at x1(PCIEX1_1, PCIEX1_2)

For an ATX board, 2x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, really? Throw in at least a PCIe 4.0 x4 even if it is connected to the chipset.

    Realtek® Wi-Fi 7 RTL8922AE

That WiFi 7 chipset, the 6GHz band doesn't support 320MHz channel width. It feels more like WiFi 6E, but supports MLO.

    • 1 x M.2 connector (M2C_SB), integrated in the Chipset, supporting Socket 3, M key, type 25110/22110/2580/2280 PCIe 4.0 x4/x2 SSD

      • +1

The B850 chipset connects to the CPU through PCIe gen 4 x4 lanes. The chipset then exposes more lanes, but they are effectively all sharing that PCIe gen 4 x4 lanes. So, realistically, that M.2 slot doesn't have dedicated PCIe lanes to the CPU.

        • So is it good or bad? No mention of lane sharing, is it because the speed is low?

          • +1

@racingmiku: It's okay for that m.2 chipset slot (it's better to have it than not have it). Most AM5 boards have such m.2 slot.

The main appeal of this board is that PCIe gen 5 x16 slot. I guess given that most of the AM5 CPUs have integrated graphics, it is technically viable to do PCIe bifurcation on that x16 slot, if you really want 4 additional m.2 NVMe SSDs on that.

        • seems stupid that the throttle is on the link. i guess the 3rd m.2 will run in x2 mode if wifi or lan is connected

          • @Maddsyz27: No, it won't drop to x2. The chipset will manage it. 2.5Gbps LAN and WiFi 7 don't use that much bandwidth. That m.2 NVMe slot will run a bit slower, but still operate in x4 mode. If you really want all m.2 slots to use CPU lanes and you want 3+ NVMe SSDs, you need to use PCIe bifurcation. It gets a bit complicated and can be confusing.

            • @netsurfer: Thanks for the info. Thought this board was like those asrock boards that sacrifice 5.0 m.2s for more 4.0 m.2 lanes.

I just wanted a value board that had x16 to the primary and 3 full speed m.2s at the same time.

              • @Maddsyz27: It did do that, for the second m.2 slot, but instead of PCIe gen 5 x4, it did PCIe gen 4 x4 to the CPU directly. It's understandable because if Gigabyte were to make that PCIe gen 5 x4, it could sell it as X870.

  • That is a nice feature to have where you don't need to muck around working out PCIE lanes.

High end boards have additional features that eat up those lanes. USB4 is one of them and additional USB ports, I think that takes up 4 lanes. With a 9000 CPUs 24 lanes from the CPU, 16 for the GPU, 4 for the M.2 NVME and 4 for the USB4 chipset on a X870 motherboard.

Where the B850 with no USB4… replace the USB4 with another M.2 NVME interface.

    I will have to caveat…

X870 board do support a GPU and M.2 NVME together to the CPU without crippling the bandwidth. You just need to check your manual to make sure your 2nd M.2 NVME is slotted into one that takes the lanes from the chipset.

    • X870 boards actively supporting PCIe gen 5 x16 bifurcation allow you to use multiple PCIe gen 5 x4 SSDs. Yes, PCIe gen 5 x4 SSDs are overkill, but if you really want to go down that path, ideally, you want at least 2 of them. Those boards most likely would give you an option (on whether you want to do that). Furthermore, those boards generally would include a PCIe gen 4 x4 PCIe slot to the chipset (which gives you some additional flexibility).

Wiring USB4 to the CPU directly is designed to give better performance. It's possible to wire USB4 to the chipset.

Gigabyte could have made the second m.2 slot on this board also PCIe gen 5 x4, but that would make it feel more like a X870 board.

Don’t import motherboards, the potential troubles will cost you more than $80.

    • don't believe any of them are made locally.

This is same as buying from Aliexpress, not worth imo

But if you got a risk appetite thats on you.

It is sold by Big-W so they will handle warranty too…just like Amazon AU selling from outside AU. You just need to know how to talk to them and warranty will be covered.

      • +7

… where are you getting this info from?

This is not comparable to what you are saying and also not all items sold on Amazon are fufilled by Amazon.

"BIG W Market sellers are businesses that sell and ship products directly to customers on bigw.com.au

        Important to know:

Returns: These sellers manage and support your order, including shipping and handling, exchanges and returns. Please note only postal returns are accepted on these orders, no in-store returns."

This is no different than buying something from eBay.com.au but the item is posted from a overseas seller (minus eBays inherent buyer protection etc)

I am talking 1st hand experience. An item that was sold by a 3rd party reseller went bad during the warranty period.
I had Big-W refund the purchase price for the item without me even talking talking or engaging at all with the 3rd party reseller. Yes they did try to make me do that however I knew how to argue about that and they dropped it pretty quick.

They can quote all they like on their web page, but that doesn't mean all these quotes a re meeting their legal obligations.

    Now $303.49

    • $303.21 …

      • I think expired now?

  • Not a bad alternative if you're going for an all-white build (though MSI only has a PCIe 4.0 slot for the GPU, as opposed to Gigabyte's PCIe 5.0 slot):
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B096Y1H9VR
    MSI B850 Gaming Plus WIFI6E White - $259.56

    • None at that price now either unfortunately.

      • A little bit more, but it's in stock for $275.13 now. And you can use the $20 discount when paying with Zip with ZIP20

        • Thanks, I bought the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi instead for just under $300 from Amazon.
