      I am assuming you are referring to the Japan Unlimited KDDI eSIM? then the plan goes by "Japan natural time GMT+9" so if you activate at 23:00PM local time, 23:00 - 23:59 is counted as 1 day

    Hi Anton,

    So I can choose correct number of days for Japan Unlimited KDDI eSim, can you please confirm the Day 1 starts from when it connects to Japan network and not from when we scan the eSim QR to the phone?

    Say if I arrive in Japan on 20th Dec but I have already activated and put in my phone the day before on 19th Dec, can I please confirm the first day counted from 20th Dec?

        Whether day 1 counts from the activation date or from the day it connects to Japan network.

          That's correct, the Unlimited KDDI eSIM will only activate when you are in Japan (i.e. you can install in Australia without activating the plan)

        If you need to get one at the airport, I heard it's better to purchase after collect your luggage and exit out of airport - there are few kiosks outside.

        As a Vietnamese, I wouldn't recommend getting the sim from the kiosks outside. Basically everything at the airport is a rip-off because of high rental price and businesses taking advantage of tourists. Just getting esim online (Viettel is like Telstra here, strongest coverage) or buy outside of the airport if you know where to go. Let me know if you have any question ๐Ÿ˜„

    I used their China 5G eSIM Unlimited 10 days in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou) just 2 weeks ago.

    While the SIM worked well and I was able to access all Google services, I found the network speed noticeably slower compared to the Trip.com China unlimited eSIM on my wife's device (which is also cheaper). Trip.com eSIM also has more options on the amount of daily high speed data (1GB, 2GB, 3GB compared to just fixed 1.5GB).

    I also found that the network speed was very fast in the morning but much slower in the evening - even though I haven't reached the 1.5GB daily limit.

      That does not sound right - if you let us know your order number we can check whether you reached your daily 1.5GB threshold

      Please also note once it reached 1.5GB the speed is slowed to 1Mbps (unlimited) - trip.com policy is 128-384kbps speed which is unusable.

        Thanks Anton, my order # is 184623.

        It is actually not bad, everything was completely fine and I was happy with the service overall.

        However, my wife's contents loaded alot faster than mine so google live translate on my phone was a bit sluggish when talking to the locals. Interestingly, both of us used the same network (China unicom I believe).

        I also appreciate the much higher speed after reaching daily cap for peace of mind. But we found that we rarely used more than 3GB total daily unless we watched alot of youtube.

    Was hoping to use the Viettel eSIM for Grab OTP - free trial of GrabUnlimited, etc. Is the OTP limitation something published by Viettel? Or other users in the past?

      This is a limitation by Viettel - if you need a local number that can receive SMS you can consider the Mobifone eSIM

      Alternatively using your Aussie number should be just fine to sign up for Grab (We did it before) and this also qualify for the free trial (unless you used it before)
