Between my monitor and my wife, only one needs a backlight—and it’s not her.

I told her the same thing!

Own the original. Paid about $50. It's pretty good. Max setting is already plenty bright. Not much of a deal here imo.

        Yeah, I literally said that.

    • Seems like its around $45 on alibaba then factor in shipping the cost price is probably around $50-$55. They might be able to do it for $70 but below that the profit margin is probably too low to be a viable product to be warehoused.

Still don’t understand why these things are generally so expensive.. it’s a cheap LED that clips to the top of a monitor.

    • I know!

But i use mine everyday and love it

    • I bought a no brand one from ali for under $15 look and function exactly the same, been using it daily perfectly fine and super bright enough when i was asking the same question before, bet they all from the same factory.

    Who nagged me ?

      ..it wasn't your monitor!

      • haha right :(

    • I did

Damm i will block you :P very bad teacher :P

  • Been using mine for a few years, only downside is the light bar powers on with the PC/Monitor.

    • just connect the monitor light into any high power usb that doesn't power on with your monitor, maybe a spare phone charger

    • +1

Don't plug it into a PC/monitor USB port then. Plug it into its own USB charging block.

      • -2

        no spare power sockets

  • Can someone explain the point of these things? Why do I want to shine a light in front of my monitor?

    • +4

I original had the same disdain for these things. Pointless fads, much like RGB lighting (guilty). But the Xiaomi promo dropped recently, and the lightbar was an acceptably low price to trial. I looked at the pictures, and saw that this one in particular could rotate slightly towards the person. I decided why the hell not. If I don't like it, I'll give it to my wife, who often complained about not having a desk light to do the odd paperwork or note-taking, ever since I moved hers to another area that needed it more.

My light bar came. The thing is heavy, metallic, solid. The remote was equally hefty and felt nice to use. I use the light only when I need to do some tinkering or writing stuff down. I never use it during PC use.

So basically, to me, it's a glorified desk light. The "monitor light bar" is a bit of a misnomer, at least in my case, because of the way I use it. However, when using it, it doesn't seem to affect the display that much. I have an OLED panel, though, so I don't know if that makes any difference to other panel types.

Is it worth the $50? Barely. It can function as a decent ambient light, and doubles as a work/desk focus light. Those things would be at least $50 anyway, and this thing, depending on how you see it, is a more elegant solution.

      • Thanks for explaining. I could never figure it out myself. I feel like calling it a monitor light bar kind of detracts from the product. A desk light i could do with, but advertising something that will shine light on my decent monitor doesn't sound appealing. I feel like "monitor desk light" or something would sell better.

    • Literally just "back lighting" for when you are starting at your 34" ultra wide in the dark. Think of it like a lamp behind your monitor.

  • How do people use this for dual monitor setups? Just place it on the primary monitor? Wish there was a better solution for wider displays and dual displays

    • +1

I have 2 x Baseus brand for each 27-inch and 32-inch monitors. I just turn on whatever monitor/s I will be using.
