Seems like an okay deal to me, don't forget $10 new customer coupon by adding a cheap item to make the total over $100.

thanks OP
i did the same too

It's cheaper if you get the tomato sauce side for $1, rounding it up to $100 exactly

As long as it is not that IO crap

I'm not informed, what was wrong with the IO series?

gunks up unless you rinse it out daily religiously
That's what a normal human does, even with regular toothbrush.

Wow, glad I saw this, wife was about to get an iO 4

yeah IO is old, need an AI toothbrush now, AI golf clubs and AI garbage bags

Are these lithium battery powered?

I found a reference on Costco website that said yes. But this one does not specifically say, so maybe not. I think if it were, they would have written it on the box.

according to the boxes, they are identical so it's a lithium battery.

Just picked this up. Lithium Ion.

Mad. Ta!

Thanks. Is it written somewhere on the box?

Li-Ion listed on the handle itself.

I seem to always switch between oral b and philips but one thing that annoys me about oral b is the terrible battery life compared to philips and how noisy they are.

With Oral B, if you're buying the cheap models they have a different battery tech and only last a few days + degrade really quickly. Ensure you're buying a Lithium Ion model and they'll last longer on a single charge, have a stronger spin rate (usually can alter between 2+) and degrade a lot slower.

I know that. Mine isnt a cheap model. It still runs out of battery far quicker than equivalent philips.

What do you define as quicker? I use mine twice a week, I bought it 2024 March (pro 2000), back then was 1.5-2weeks battery, now its still a solid week+ generally. I brush twice a day.
A charge is just throw it on overnight and you're sorted… I don't see the big deal? Does the philips last like a month?

I also have the not so cheap oral b model and the lithium battery has degraded significantly within a year. It might have had 75 charging cycles at the most.

Philips uses a simple ultrasonic motor similar to the vibration motor in a mobile phone.
Oral B uses 2 motors, one for oscillating the head and the other for vibrations.
Oscillating toothbrushes are regarded as being superior.
You get less battery life because you need more power to get a better brush.
I easily get a week out of my Oral B lithium one. I think the best I've got is 10 days when using it twice a day (4min/day). That's a lot of battery life for my needs.

@studentl0an: Oh. I made the assumption they were referring to a comparable oscillating unit.. (I have no idea if Philips offer this but I assumed based on the comparison) - but yeah this makes sense then if it's just a vibration motor of course it's going to last way longer. And yeah absolutely, I have crowded teeth that can't reasonably be fixed by braces (due to extractions/gum cutting required that pose a risk to nerves); and have found the oscillating toothbrush to be a godsend in reducing buildup and damage over time, as well as just generally keeping my teeth cleaner than a hand toothbrush!

@ReaperX22: I don't think Philips makes an oscillating electric toothbrush, only ultrasonic.
Yeah the oscillating ones are great. I've used an ultrasonic one about 10 years ago and found it to be much worse than oscillating. I'm sure they have got better since then but from what I can read it still seems oscillating are the best.

@studentl0an: When I researched last time it seemed that the ultrasonic was superior, but maybe I researched wrong

@bleeder: https://www.shavershop.com.au/blog/difference_between_oscill…
Shaver shop have their own opinions on it:
The general rule of thumb is, the more the movement the better the clean. You may immediately think oscillation is the one. However, this is not true for everyone. If you have sensitive or receding gums, the Sonic motion is much more suitable for you. It is less harsh and provides a gentle clean to ensure you do not experience irritation.
I guess that makes sense. If I'm not careful/gentle enough with the oscillation I'll get sensitive gums occasionally, sometimes receding gums (as a result, not because of existing issues), and if I just back off any pressure it's normally fine pretty quickly.
So I reckon in ~20 years I'll move to ultrasonic when it's a lot more sensitive!
This image: https://images.surferseo.art/32dfb2c3-7a69-4269-a065-f7d9014… - deeper cleaning etc definitely matter more to me than sensitivity. My partner has near perfect teeth so maybe I'll get her on the ultrasonic.. Though she still tries to use the oscillating head like a normal toothbrush and the brushheads on hers wear down 2-3x faster than mine ha

@bleeder: The thing is a lot of these Oral B toothbrushes also have a form of ultrasonic movement also. I think they call it '3D cleaning action'. The head moves up and down very fast in addition to rotating/oscillating.
"The 3D oscillating-rotating-pulsating cleaning system makes up to 9,900 oscillation/rotation movements per minute and up to 45,000 pulsations per minute for thorough cleaning."
https://www.dentalcare-aus.com.au/en-au/products/electric-to…

@studentl0an: Yes, I did think the battery life difference would be due to the different mechanism used in each device.
I do also get between 1 to 1.5 week on my Smart 1 toothbrush, but compared to what I get from Oclean or Philips products, it's still bad.
I don't know if this particular one is any different, but mine doesn't even give me an early warning about low battery level and it just starts flashing red light with no warning and brushing power is significantly reduced. I find this seriously infuriating. In terms of which type of toothbrush (vibration vs oscilliating) is better, I don't think there's much in it after using both systems through multiple products.

@keejoonc: What are users thoughts on Oclean?
Particularly keen to know what Oral-B users think if used both types?

@fookos: Oclean is Xiaomi. If you go there just take MES610 for $50 while 11.11 promo on Aliex and forget these overpriced brands where most of the money is for brand.

@Ozzster: Thanks! Is the MES610 the ‘Pro’ model? None of the listings seem to have the model numbers.

@fookos: Xiaomi Oscillation Electric Toothbrush Pro. With screen showing where do you need to clean more, making horizontal moves, and sensor if you press too much. Also compatible with majority heads of other brands.

@Ozzster: Bought 2 Xiaomi $35.50 each now for free delivery as I am not that happy with my Oral B battery. Xiaomi claims huge battery life.Lets see.
https://www.mi.com/au/product/xiaomi-oscillation-electric-to…

@techno2000: I cancelled the Xiaomi. The genuine brush heads are costing double the genuine oral b brush heads on special.

@fookos: I found it pretty good. Would definitely consider buying again. My wife is still using it actually after her Philips died.

@keejoonc: Xiaomi Oscillation Electric Toothbrush Pro will work with heads from Philips. Enjoy this trick :)

Fakkk I paid $158 a month ago.

Hmm, so hard to compare models overall. Really just want the good battery type.
Have a smart 4000 that is dying and don't need the app stuff or the different modes at all.

they will die eventually you can change the battery manually

Get a replacement battery off Aliexpress for $10.

The iO series get a lot of hate here but they are so much more quieter so if you have oldies in the family or people sensitive to the loud 'brrrrrr' sound in the morning / evening, get the iO series and cop the more costly brush refills which can be somewhat mitigated when you keep an eye on sales. I got my iO 3 series for around $62 from Chemist warehouse stacking cashbacks and during a sale period. The min you want in the iO series is series 3. Series 2 is gimped while iO 3 and up are the same tooth brush but with more and more App and Bluetooth features when you climb the price ladder which is completely unnecessary.

Its not worth it. The refills are exorbitantly expensive compared to non-iO.
Oral-B is copying the Printer and the Ink-Cartridge formula.

True, rip off refill prices but can be had with bulk discounts during July and Nov - Dec during which we stock up for the year. iO is so much quieter that it makes it worthwhile. Coming from a 15 year Pro 8000 and Pro 5000 user.

Definitely good deal as the unit price is similar to 2000 / 2500 while on offer and 5000 have more cleaning modes

Cleaning modes are nothing but gimmick IMO.

I understand what you are saying, just find deep clean mode more useful for myself

Anyone know if this can integrate with Home Assistant?
Integrations page mentions:
Smart Series 4000
Smart Series 6000
Smart Series 7000
Genius Series 8000
Genius Series 9000
Genius Series 10000I figure this is Smart Series 5000? It's not listed but maybe it's because no-one has tested it? Weird 5000 in the middle is missing.

Genuine question - I know HA is a gateway drug and once you've integrated a couple things you want to do it all but…
….Why a toothbrush? XD

Haha was waiting for this question. Main things you could do are reminders to brush your teeth or even a notification to name and shame people in the household if they didn't do it 😂 or you can link it somehow to bedtime routine, if you always brush your teeth right before bed then it can trigger off your routine (dim the lights, lock the door or whatever).

@Dollar Dreamer: Research shows!
Proceeds to not provide sources for said research. Classic.
Next you're gonna tell me research shows the earth is flat! (… Please don't lol)

Oooo yeah okay. If brushing your teeth is the last thing before bed then yeah makes sense.
There's also 3d print mounts for these things you can make and have them always like.. Plugged in and charger hidden etc.
Actually that'd be pretty funny now I think about it. My partner is lazy some days if she has nowhere to go (her teeth are great so it's less an issue for her vs me) but still. I have to tell her off some days! Ha. Could have google home yell at her instead xD

@ReaperX22: Yeah it's probably more for fun than anything else, and I have a kid but he's a bit young for it, but could use to gamify it when he's older, stuff like that.
The things HA actually feels like it improves your life with are more like controlling curtains and blinds, lights, air con. Something like a toothbrush is more just for fun. But if I'm gonna get a new one, I may as well have fun with it as well!

I was thinking the exact same thing, odd the 5000 isn't mentioned. Hopefully someone has tried it out

They dont have Bluetooth on this model, contrary to what SS Website says.

Thanks, that's good to know, I won't be getting this deal then

Missus can't use hers…"like having an lawnmower in your mouth" so I got her an Oclean . Bloody thing speaks Chinese to her.

Shaver Shop RRP $429.99 ? Wow its 75% off I must buy………
Ways that a displayed price can be misleading (www.accc.gov.au)
Stating the sale price is marked down from an earlier price when:
the items were not sold at that price for a reasonable period right before the sale started, or
only a very small proportion of items were sold at that price right before the sale.
Comparing the displayed price with the wrong cost or wholesale price.
Comparing the displayed price to a recommended retail price (RRP) that the product was never sold at, or wasn’t sold at for a reasonable period right before the sale started.
Advertising a price that is not the total price the consumer will have to pay.
Promoting a price as being a sale or special price, when it is actually the normal price.
Where an item is offered at a sale or special price for an extended period of time, it may be misleading to call it a sale or special price, as the price has effectively become the new selling price.
You're right. This historically has shown up as $189.99 RRP.

I've signed up under 2 emails now and no welcome coupon. Anyone else receive?

It showed up directly on the web page for me when signing up as a new user

Cheers. Third time's the charm.

I still much prefer the new IO range. My teeth feel cleaner and it looks less likely to get mouldy vs my 9000 lol.
9000 still going well after 5 years too!

My 8000 is 15 years old, I just change the battery every 4 - 5 years. Give your 9000 to your grand kids if you are still alive.

I want to share some advice from my dentist when using these electric toothbrushes. He said just lightly touch each tooth for 2 secs with a slight rolling motion so you can get some bristle in the crevice on each side and don't miss the gum line either. So be GENTLE! These brushes are so powerful that you can damage your teeth by pressing too hard where you grind away enamel or exacerbate any micro cracks in your teeth. Otherwise you'll end up paying $4-6k for each tooth replacement you get. Free advice from someone who's now paying a lot for electric toothbrush damage.
I'm curious to know if anyone else has also developed problems from using these toothbrushes?

Top toothbrushes have pressure sensor indicating when you push too much, or even stopping when you do so. Not sure about the subject one.

Thanks for the downvote. I had one of these sensor toothbrushes and still developed problems that my dentist said were related to overuse of the toothbrush. I've now done some more research and this might be of interest…
"…there are some health-related downsides of electric toothbrushes that should be on your radar…"
https://austinfamilydentist.com/the-secret-downside-no-one-t….And here's an interesting research study that compared manual vs electric toothbrush use and reported no differences found in relation to plaque:
https://bmcoralhealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12…So I'm wondering whether the alleged benefits of electric toothbrushes are worth it. I'm not going to accept what some big multinational corporation says at face value because their number one motive is profit.

Been using electric toothbrushes for +20 years and never had any issues. Personally, I don't understand the need for pressure sensors. Why would you even press the brush against your teeth that hard? I don't get it.

@keejoonc: I've been using them for about a decade now. Just recently switched to the one with the sensor. I didn't know, but it appears that I have a habit of extra pressure in certain areas. It doesn't feels like that from my side, but electronic thingy always points to one area, so it might be right.
Also, there are brushes with 2 required actions - one you use like a normal one and it just vibrates in addition to normal brushing; another one does the activity itself so you only expected to make one long swipe across your jaw. In both cases you may want to focus on areas between teeth and press more.

Thank for the downvote the one who did it, not me.
The first study cares about the issue that is actually fixed by the pressure sensor.
Your research says that you can clean your teeth well with any toothbrush, it up to you, not your toothbrush. I can't argue with that. All behaviour is subjective. My toothbrush tells me if I skipped some area (was distracted) or if I pressed too much it will stop vibrating ASAP. Neither is necessary, but both help.

Can anyone confirm if these are Bluetooth?
No Bluetooth marking on the packaging at all, and some other listings from other shops (like Big W) don't mention Bluetooth either.
You’ll use Bluetooth once, maybe. Just brush your teeth 😆

They don't have Bluetooth. I just received my order and will be sending it back, as I wanted it for my Kids, so that I can make sure they are brushing their teeth. I have a Home Assistant Automation to notify me if they have not brushed. Pity, as their website says it does and it was what I was expecting.

Thanks for the update. That's a shame and a muck around. Seems the cheapest offering with bluetooth at the moment is around the $150 mark

It feels like oral b is trying to push everyone towards the expensive IO series
Getting difficult to find the pro, smart, genius series nowadays in shops and online.

Definitely. On their website they only Pro brushes they list now are the 300 and 1500X. They no longer publish the oscillation/pulsation specs so for a 30 year user it comes down to guesswork when replacing my Pro 2000. I picked up the 1500X the other day and its garbage and will be sent back to Braun for refund. I will try this one as hopefully it should be the faster speed but again, no specs so mostly guessing. The only other reasonable option is to import a Pro 3 3500 from Germany via Amazon. Could not gaf about the extra modes or bluetooth or whatever. I hear the 1500X is comparable to the IO series so am assuming they are all slow and one of the reasons Braun have gotten rid of the higher end Pros. Not sure what I will do when the new ones break. Maybe they are holding back on higher speeds so they can introduce it as a new feature for IO models. Braun's marketing nonsense has really pissed me off and I've gone from would buy anything Braun branded to will happily jump to another brand in a matter of days.

Anyone in Sydney want to split the cost of this and take one toothbrush each? Only need one toothbrush - not two - but this is a great deal.

Fyi there is only 1 charger

Hi, did you end up getting one? I would be down to split if you aren't using both

Hi guys, after some advice please. Me and Mrs never had electric toothbrush. In recent visit, dentist has convinced us to use electric going forward, brief is to have oral b, round head. What do you guys recommend pls. Don't want any gimmicky stuff, just regular deep cleaning brush with ok battery life and replacement heads are available economically. Thanks

Thanks op.
New user + $2 toothpaste :)
