100% Linen Garments and Bed Sheets

I'd like to purchase some 100% linen garments and bed sheets, does anyone know of a reputable supplier?

In my research I have found something can be sold as 100% linen yet it's often mixed with other materials such as cotton.

Any help on this topic would be much appreciated!

  • In my research I have found something can be sold as 100% linen yet it's often mixed with other materials such as cotton.

I'm not saying that this doesn't happen but I am positive that if they tell you this or are audacious enough to advertise this, then they are lying.

    Some call it false advertising.

Linen comes completely from the flax plant.

Cotton definitely does not come from the flax plant, it comes from the notflax cotton plant.

  • Thank you, yes, some are "Fake advertising" hence the need for a reputable suppler, do you know of any?

  • For linen sheets i would go for sheridan. They have been around a very long time.

I do not think you can find 100% linen garments, everything these days is cut with something else.

    • Thank you Garetz, i feel i will utilize this recommendation!

  • I was just looking for some linen bedding and came across this Sydney firm who advertise 100% French flax linen:

Their colour range looks fab and you can sign up to be notified of Black Friday deals.

    • Made in China. Try to find other brands that are made in the EU.

      • I actually was wondering where they were made and suspected China. Off my list now! Cheers

        • I am the first to avoid Chinese produce but there is a fair amount of important nuance missing in this discussion.

Firstly, their flax seed is grown in Normandy, France, which is known for it's high quality flax linen.

It's then manufactured in China. Now this may raise questions but the factory is OEKO-TEX qualified. So a reliable 3rd party guarantee their items are free from hundreds of harmful chemicals. I would not purchase without this guarantee.

I actually bought their emerald green quilt cover and pillow covers the other day & laying on it now in fact. It's utterly superb. Would definitely recommend.

          • @Carpe Diem: Fair call. French & Lithuanian flax is generally good quality. Even though quality products can be made in china, I prefer to buy products not made there if possible. Oeko-tex products can also be bought at Aldi.

  • You learn something new everyday. I always thought Linen was a rough weave cotton.

  • I can never get my head around percale.

Then there is the whole thread count thing. Yes, I get it in theory, but years ago I read how they manipulate the figures in that all threads are not created equal so a 1000 thread count sheet may be of lower quality than a 400 thread count sheet, for example.

Then more shenanigans with type of weave, tightness of weave, thread splitting sigh

Just makes my head hurt so I gave up.

Pretty sure that I settled on percale being my preference a fair while ago but haven't found any lately. I just know that I hate bamboo sheets or those stretchy t shirt material sheets from a while back.

  • Look up the Belgian linen sheets at myer ('sandy cape'). I have several sets of these, they are 100% linen. They arent smooth like percale etc, there is a bit of roughness to them but are still very comfortable and cool.

    • How long have you had them? I've seen a number of reviews saying that they fall apart pretty quickly, which put me off from buying Sandy Cape linen sheets.

      • +1

belated but…several years and no issues at all. I probably only use each set for a week a month so its not as if I have subjected them to intense usage (maybe around 200 days of use over those years?) but cant see any degradation or weakness. I also do not use a dryer, no idea if that is a factor but could be.

Looking at a lot of the complaints they seem to either be people who dont know what linen sheets are and complaining about it (eg not smooth) or complaining that they arent thick sheets. The latter is correct - they are thinner than some other linen options but they are also half the price of those other options.

        • Okay thanks for that. The specific reviews I saw were on the Myer website, eg Jane103 said they had worn thin and were getting holes after four months. Others complained of them pilling or leaving fluff everywhere. But then a lot of people really liked them! I have a couple of Sheridan sets, which are lovely, but I really like the Sandy Cape colourways.

  • Thank you dfc, this feels ideal!

  • Ecodownunder.com.au sells 100% linen bedding made in India:

More expensive than Myer but it's a great brand and offers free shipping > $50 plus a sign-up discount.
