  • I purchased this about six months ago for $50. My car battery tends to run flat because of my always-on dual dash cams, so I use this device every other week and have never encountered any issues. It was an excellent value at the time, and I’ve been charging it with my 65W laptop charger without any problems.

That sounds like a great way to kill your battery. Have you considered other options, like a separate lithium battery and charger?

    • I would think that a trickle charger would be a better option.

Each time you run a lead acid battery flat you do damage to its cells shortening it's useful life

      • I’m using the Navman dash camera smart box, which is supposed to shut off automatically when the car battery is low. However, it’s clearly not functioning as intended and continues to drain the battery.

Fortunately, I have a Supercharge Gold Plus battery with a 50-month replacement warranty, so I’m not overly concerned about the battery itself. In the meantime, the jump starter is doing an excellent job of keeping everything running.

        • What voltage do you have the smartbox set to? Maybe it’s too low.

          • @mapax: The minimum voltage is set to 12V. If the battery voltage falls below this threshold, the cameras must be automatically deactivated.

            • @Kay96: Have you tried setting it to 12.3v?

              • @mapax: Bro, I’ve tried every possible setting, but the battery still drains quickly. At this point, my only remaining option is to return the SmartBox and request a refund.

  • Thanks OP. Some POS stole mine out of my car.

Cheers OP, decided to grab a toolkit for the campervan while I was at it.
Big Daddy Bush Mechanic Toolkit + Rechargeable LED Work Light for $119.95 was cheap enough for me to bite.
