Good luck getting it installed. I've never been able to find a tradie who would install an AC not bought from/through them.

  • I’ve been waiting for an install quote from them since 4-November. Ended up going with a different mob for a Daikin.

    Aircon for ants .

Or a room in a well constructed home.

If nothing else, it will keep the humidity down in a bedroom at night.
Could be used with a ceiling fan in a humid climate.

1.5kw… what a waste of time.

    • +5

so you don't have any spaces that would suit it. Is interesting to learn that this the case for everyone.

For a non-inverter, 1.5kw is useful for overnight so the bedroom doesn't get too cold while your sleeping in winter. It's got a COP of 4.7 so cheap to run

For inverter based systems it's a non issue, as they should be able to run at a low enough speed that a large unit can emulate a small unit.

It's not a bad product, but I think it'd have to be $400 to get my interest.

Install costs… may as well get a more powerful system.

    • Depends on your usecase. We heat our whole house with a 6KW split system in the living room. A add on 1.5kw split system in the bedroom for a bit more comfort on the super hot or cold days would be sufficient for us. No waste of time. Efficient & cheap! We insulated the house well and don't need a heap of heating and cooling …

Does not suit every house but guess that's why there are different systems.

Well I am a regular sized wombat and you are a Mini size Wombat…

      • I have a large house and do something similar, the main split is 8KW and most bedrooms have 2.5KW, though we have cathedral ceilings.

Works well even in the worst days (have gas ducted heating as well though, we use ours mostly for cooling)

    • Not a waste of time at least for MHI. They will do a small room providing you have good insulation.

I have 4 MHI splits and 1 panasonic, I would recommend getting a 2.5 Kw for a normal sized bedroom (3x3 ish), given the cost of install is the same you would be mad not do.

  • Installation will cost more than this unit cost

    • so buy a more expensive one! (??)

  • Wait what? 1.5 kW? Did you write that right?

    My kettle is more powerful

  • Installation prices are so insane, I wish there were more options for dual ducted outdoor portables.
The window units are too noisy at night.

Install prices are high because its a big job.
I did DIY because I get a kick from that, but its a lot easier to pay someone. Second time was worth the effort.

      • Me too, and Agreed. People act like the $500 you pay go straight into the installers pocket, but when I did mine a good $150 went straight into pipe and cabling. And mine was about as simple as it gets

Looking for a good deal on a 2.5 kW / 3.2 kW unit

I've got some Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Avanti split systems and they work well. Do yourself a favour if paying the install get a 2.5kw for the average sized bedroom.

The main difference is that the Avanti Plus series is generally more energy efficient, while the Ciara series is more compact with a sleeker, modern design and is available in a wider range of capacities, including smaller units. Avanti Plus units are often rated higher for energy efficiency, whereas Ciara models sometimes have lower star ratings, but both series include convenient features like built-in Wi-Fi.

A 1.5kw air conditioner is not for you. It's more of a Shelbyville idea.

  • I have a 1.5kw and 2kw mhi ciara in 2 rooms and they are completely fine for the perth winter and summer. App could be snappier. Windows are old and roof doesn't have insulation yet power is completely adequate.

    • the 1.5 isnt enough for no insulation as per MHI own advice?

      • inverter machine, 1.5kw can ramp up to 2.5kw

        • You mean its a 2.5 kw system then?

  • Saw Amazon listing the 5kW for only $859, which seems way too cheap?
