First time deal poster.

I have the old model Lumintop AA 2.0 and it has been great. Bought it for about $20AU a few years back (with no battery). It is quite bright with a 14500 battery.

This is my Zombie Apocalypse torch, it accepts the 14500 battery (for highest output), but also works with AA alkaline and NiMh rechargeable batteries. I guess you could even use an AAA converter if you want. I like how you switch between the modes and there is not parasitic draw on the battery when twisted off (and cant be accidently turned on with the base switch).

This new model 3.0 is sitting at AU$60+ on Amazon AU. It has a higher output and better led than my old model. It is a nice touch having the USB-C included within the include 14500 battery.

Chose the option 'Emitting Color: Tool AA with 14500' and apply the code. Comes with free shipping

Code is invalid for me. Doesn’t meet minimum purchase amount.

yeah need to select most expensive combo of "Tool AA whole set" for discount code to apply

      • Awesome thank you.

I have Tool AA 2.0 and like it but with a 14500, the tailcap illuminates and drains battery to empty in a month even if you dont use it.

Anyways bought this 3.0 with the magnetic tail cap so that I can use that tail cap instead if this has a big drain issue as well with 14500.

    • Can you half turn the cap to prevent parasitic drain?

      • I guess you can, but I just put a Ladda/eneloop in it as I have now bought other 14500/nimh/AA flashlights like TAC AA, Pokelit AA and Convoy T3 and Convoy T7.

      • +2

apparently not - this is what I normally do with lights. Supposedly you can buy the magnetic tail cap option and the half screw turn will work with that (see conclusion) https://1lumen.com/review/lumintop-tool-aa-3/#led

        • +1

Confirming you can. It also came with a different cap end with no button and is twist only.

I have the same torch AA2.0 , just twist the head to the right (the same method as changing modes), and the tail lamp goes off. I lost track of my one for a couple of years and the battery did not drain. I think it is a complete disconnect of the battery.

  • Would this go ok as a bike headlight?

    • +1

Wouldn't recommend it. It's a nice pocket torch, can attached to a cap visor but the throw isn't great. My son used a Sofirn SP40 when he used to ride to work at night. Also have an Astrolux BL02, pretty good.

Having said that, Tool AA is a great torch for the size. I've got 6 odd around the house and have gifted many, as well as the Tool AAA. Put a lithium primary in it and keep it in the car.

      • Oh ok, the sofrin is twice the price it seems and a head torch. I was actually after a torch that I can mount to the bike. I have an abundance of random torches of different sizes already (nothing special but they seem to do the job) so looking at getting something purpose specific. I need a few too so not looking to break the bank

        • +2

Search for, "Astrolux bike flashlight". We have an Astrolux BL02 but son was too lazy to attach / detach every ride - head torch was easier. I think BL03 is current.

There are other mounting devices that can attach to the handlebars and strap on a torch like a Convoy S2 but I can't recall brand / part numbers

Also look up on Amazon, "led rear bike light". We got a 2 pack to attach one to the back of the saddle and one to the back of the helmet.

          • @Sillen: Thank, just looked thee up and they are going for double the price of this or more at bangood, which was the first like that came up, are they going to be that much better?

            • +1

@Jackson: I think so but if you're really on a budget, get a couple of Convoy S2, can be supplied with battery and buy a charger while you're at it and a bike mount like Olight FB-1 Bike Mount. Or ask @Tim Mc further down in this thread - he's more current on torches than I am, Finally, r/flashlight on reddit.

Edit: Wait for black friday sales

Price decreased. Code no longer works?

Still there, you need to select the "Tool AA with 14500" or "Tool AA whole set"

I need about 5 decent hand-held torches for camping, any recommendations?

    • +1

I'm a big fan of headtorches for camping. Better for task lighting.

      • -4

        Ok?

        • -1

Check out Wurkkos HD12 with head strap.
          Or
Wuben E7 and it's 18650 end cap if you need longer runtime.

          • -3

@yeahwhatever: Yeah nah, need hand-held as per the comment, don't really care that you are a fan of head torches.

            • @Ooops: Right angled design, with a magnetic tail cap and head strap is where it's at.

What exactly do you mean handheld? Traditional cylindrical?
You can hold any flashlight in the hand like you do the traditional design and achieve the exact same result, but you can't mount a traditional to your head or anything else when the need arises, read not versatile.

The only benefit of a cylindrical shape is mounting on small arms weapons.

      • -2

        yeah, was asking for hand-held

    • Agree with the above posts. A head torch is quite a good profile for camping. you can use it on a table, and some have magnetic bases.

Sofirn is great I just ordered a HS42 for US$22 but the deal is gone. They have a lot of different options. They are also giving away H25LRs (but this is micro USB, which according to my kids is what the dinosaurs used)

      • -6

        Ok?

      • How do I get these ones they are giving away?

    • +4

Manker E03H III is a pretty good right-angle AA-sized headlamp.

It's powerful on Turbo. The output is well regulated. And it takes a bunch of common batteries (1.5V Alkaline AA, 1.2V Ni-MH AA, 3.7V Li-ion 14500).

Disclaimer: I'm finishing up a review of it and posted a video demonstrating it outside on YouTube.

    • Ok?

  • Do these have to always cycle through the modes, or a quick press can turn on and off the last mode.

  • Assuming it is the same s the 2.0… It is a bit different to other torches twisting through the options (fast twists), but it does remember the last setting (long twist or base button)

  • +1

Code doesn't work fro any option….

  • Code Doesn't work for ant option

  • the only time I bought one of these was when they budged from 6500K and offered a Nichia 519A in 4000K.

  • My order of full pack, torch, battery and mag cap came to US$14.02. That with $3 off coupon and GST.
    Did anyone scored better price?
