have had one for more than a decade - incredibly well made, absolutely terrific little set.

    • True, quality is awesome

    • +2

I'm pretty sure no BAHCO is made in Sweden any more. These new sets may not compare well to old stuff.
I tried to visit the factory when I was travelling in EU about 3 years ago and the last one seem to have closed like a year ago back then.

      • +1

Used to be made in Taiwan now this set is China.

      • Got a old big wrench made from Sweden from 30 years ago, now made in china, hope still have good quality control

    • +1

The craziest thing is IIRC I got it for free as one of the electrical component companies in Sydney (RS Components or Element14 I think) were running a deal were you got one with any order you placed in this promo period. Is a wonderful little set.

  • +7

Compact, well made, six point sockets, with a few screwdriver bits for good measure.
This is THE 1/4 set you need, especially at this price.
If only I could justify an extra set.

    • Same, unfortunately I just do not need an extra set.

    • ALWAYS need a spare 10mm… There's your justification…

  • Same here. It's always there when you need it.
Used it this morning to tighten and 8mm nut on the lawnmower.

  • +1

Cheers. Didnt realise they have a store in roselands, a few min away from me

  • +1

    I want the orange version

  • Yeah i reckon i somehow got one of these for free.. would recommend forever ago.. i hate it when i have to use any other ratchet set.

    • I got one/similar one free when I bought something through RS a few years back

  • +1

Great little set. Wonder if they will have any 1/2" deals as well

  • +1

Bahco is a quality brand. No brainer at this price. I used Bahco ratchets and tooling when I was on the wind farms earlier this year.

  • Got a set to go with my 1/4" digital torque wrench

  • +4

I make this comment on every Bahco deal. Their socket sets are now made in china and are not the quality they used to be.
Even the large sets are made in china. Classic sellout of a well know and respected brand.
*Nontheless this is a good deal for a cheap set.

    • +1

For the price, this is still heaps better than the Taiwan-made sets, such as Sidchrome and Kincrome.

    • +1

made in china and are not the quality they used to be.

Are they better or worse now and can you elaborate on how?
      I really don’t get the ‘made-in-china = bad’ generalisation.
I own several socket sets and tools across Wera, Knipex, Bahco, Gearwrench, Vessel, Toolpro and Tekton. In no way do I feel these Chinese made Bahco sockets and ratchets inferior to say, Wera or Vessel. They haven’t yet failed me in any way.
In fact, I prefer their design and compactness.
If I were to do it over I’d have just this and a Bahco 3/8 set and would be sorted with sockets for pretty much 99% of situations (actually it’s 100%) an average person may encounter.

      • Dude, wera ratches yell ICH IST DEUTSCH (or cech) with every turn, esp their limited angle ratchets.

    • +2

I bought this set from this deal last year for $19. RRP is total BS and no way is this worth more than $19.

      • +3

Fortunately( or more like Unfortunately in this case) we are in Australia. Don't just look at the bits and pieces in the set, you gotta include the Australia Tax, importation fees, local shipping, labour, employee benefits, overtime pay, weekend rates, holiday surcharge, credit card fees, stocking fees, the rent, the utilities, insurance, GST, business tax, etc etc.

    • Is there a set you would recommend?

    • Are they actually of inferior quality or you are simply assuming based on the fact that some of their tools are made in China?

Lots of Milwaukee tools are made in China, but I've been impressed by all the MIlwaukee stuff I've bought.

  • +1

I got one of these during the last sale. Beautifuly engineered. Extremely precise. A no brainer at $20.

  • Thanks op. Just picked up a set earlier today and it feels solid for its size and price.

  • I got this last time, lovely little set but I wanted more hex bits and this one fits in the case along with the main set: https://amzn.asia/d/jckZmNj

    • How did you manage to fit this in the case? The Tekton set comes to 81mm length.

Do you mean you removed the 6x Bahco torx bits and 2x hex bits to fit them?

      • +2

I'll take a picture when I get home but you can fit them right next to the main handle :) Just placing them horizontally

Ahhh I see! Thanks for taking the time to share the photo.

I have been needing a handy little socket set, so jumped on it. Cheers OP!

  • +1

    Finally secured one!

  • Been on the lookout, thanks OP!

I don't know why I bought it, but who am I to question OzB? 😀

    • You made a good decision

    • Me too, now I'm in love with this little set. It's so compact I'm amazed.

  • I cant pay with paypal, the window wont load

    • Somewhere near the top you have to enter your email address for PayPal to work. Did the same thing to me early as well

      • YES, it works thank you.

  • +1

Is this useful only for automotive work? I like to DIY a little around the house

    • Hah yes I'm also wondering this. Incredibly popular so I trust the wisdom of Ozbargain, but I can't really think of many use cases. Similarly, I also do a bit of DIY around the house

    • +4

I've assembled a tool cart that I bought from Bunnings a while back. I believe this set wouldn't do the job cuz the cart required 14mm.

I've also assembled a bench which required larger socket sizes 14, 16, 17mm etc.

My Victa mower needs sizes up to 16mm.

I don't see where you'd use this Bahco set other than for maintaining a bike or changing a car battery.

If you want a versatile kit at home, buy a 3/8" drive set that at least covers the range 8 to 19mm. That should cover most use cases.

This is a way more useful set: https://www.repco.com.au/tools-equipment/tool-kits-sets/sock…

or one with both shallow and deep sockets: https://www.repco.com.au/tools-equipment/tool-kits-sets/sock…

or this (when on sale it's usually about $50+): https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-socket-s…

Thanks @Leeroy Jenkins for these, and agreed you ned to have a set with larger sizes if you only have one set. out of curiosity, the last set has imperial SAE sockets too, where do they get used these days, trying to remember the last time I used one. Just trying to figure out what I buy for my kids.

        • +1

I do stuff around the house and maintain 3 cars (regular service, repairs and upgrades), and I've never needed a single SAE socket.

I recommended that last set mainly due to its price point when it's on sale, and the lifetime warranty that comes with it. SCA are really easy to deal with.

    • You need a 50cm pipe extender for this ratcheting socket wrench.

  • +1

Be prepared to get SMS spammed from these assh@les.
I bought this deal last year.

  • +2

Don't need it, but bought one anyway. Can't have too many socket sets. It's a shame it doesn't have a 14mm though.

    • I've picked up my set and really like how compact it is. Wanted to buy a couple more to give out as xmas gifts, but they are OOS everywhere around me. This is so popular lol!

  • Perfect timing that I need a new set of sockets

  • a bit odd having so many TORX and only 2 hex, I would have thought hex was way more common in usage

    • Bahco is a Europe based company and their main market is Europe. Europeans much prefer Torx over Hex head fasteners, which might explain the composition of the kit.

  • Any recommendations for sockets beyond 13mm?

I have a wera set paired with a torque wrench but need something more automotive focused. First time Ive heard of this brand

  • +2

Great deal but unfortunately the quality of Bahco tools has gone down significantly since Snap-on bought them out. All socket sets now Chinese made and the quality difference to the old Euro made tools is night and day. Still worth buying at this price though.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I need a set like this so thanks for posting. 🤗
BTW system stock on website may not always be correct as some of my local stores showing stock had none. Luckily I found a set at another store a bit further away.

I like the number of bits especially T8 in there, but it doesn't have a 12mm socket which is a dealbreaker for me.

  • had a tab open on checkout for a day now, kept forgetting to put in the CC details. Come back now to do it and they have switched to 'in store only' and removed it from the cart
won't be able to drive in and get it for a few more days now, fingers crossed

    • I would recommend you ring first and get them to put one a side for you. I had several stores showing stock then when i rang, found out they had sold out days before so system was not updated. Good Luck.

    • I bought mine at Moorabbin store and they had hundreds of them

  • +2

Picked one up yesterday, sockets and ratchet were jammed in wrong so the foam is all deformed and the sockets feel super light and ratchet doesn't feel 'tight' but it's fine for a $20 set.

  • +1

I bought one today and when I got it home and opened it the 12mm socket fell out as the foam cutout was damaged. I recommend opening in store to check you get a good one.

  • +1

This is an ok kit for 20 bucks, probably better than the bosch kit that goes for a similar price, but it's pretty smallz and my guess is that it's pretty useless for most jobs.

Also consider 3/8 and 1/2 inch kits have been on sale for around 30 bucks it can make a nice gift but it's not that great a deal. The RRP is overblown

  • They never shipped it to me 🤣
