Any deal for one device but 5 years?

  • +2

Is this legit or did I just lose 23.98? The activation code didn't work.

    • +1

Ofc I don’t know this specific case, but I can vouch for Fanatical from previous purchases

      • Must've tried 10 times atleast in a space of 30 mins - no luck.

        • +1

Make sure you have no VPN running as the codes might have geolocation restrictions

    • +5

Fanatical is 100% legit - it is like Humble Bundle.

If you are having an issue, you might have to contact Fanatical support.

    • +3

I've problem with activation as well. Seems like it stuck at "Plan Renewal Authorization" with error message "Oops, something went wrong. Please try again later.".
      Will try again later.

      • I've got the same issue. Trying again after a few hours but didn't change anything. I'm not connected to a VPN either so not sure what is going on. Will have to reach out to Fanatical support.

      • I am experiencing the same message. "Oops, something went wrong." on the "Plan Renewal Authorization" screen.

        • Me too

          • @necklessgiraffe: Update: I never was able to get it working. Contacted BD support and asked them to activate it from their side, which worked. It appears in BD Central as a new subscription, not a continuation of my previous subscription (which is of nil consequence).

      • Same, I got the oops, raised a ticket with bitdefender. If nothing eventuates from this, I’ll have to get a refund.

    • I ran into this problem. I tried signing out and back in which didn't help. I had to reboot for other reasons, but when I came back, worked fine for me. So maybe try signing in with private tab and see if that helps. Incidentally as others have mentioned there is the dodgy auto renew step, on the later attempt I selected PayPal and entered email address, but it never asked me to sign in. There was another error in the process, but then activation had landed correctly in my account. All seemed to work correctly and fine but super weird activation process.

    • I reached out to Fanatical who issued me with a new code after the first one didn't work but the second one didn't work either. Finally reached out to BD support via online chat and they activated the subscription from their side.

  • +1

This is definitely legit, the activation code worked for me, but you must agree to Bitdefender's auto renewal, which can then be cancelled at any time in the next year, before the automatic renewal takes effect.

  • Is this better than the factory microsoft defender

    • +8

Yes and no. Ive had Bitdefender for last few years and most recently while play BF6 it blocked all my internet. Only way for my PC to go back online was to do a full uninstall.

I've reverted back to Microsoft defender with DefenderGUI.
      https://www.defenderui.com/

Working perfectly. I think Bitdefender has slightly better detection rates and less false positive last I check on AV comparatives. But if you're not going on dodgy sites or opening dodgy emails you should be fine.

      • +1

Never heard of this DefenderUI, looks nice, ty :)

        • +5

This is what's great about OzB, find out sh*t you never knew about.

Hey R3XNebular, any privacy concerns with the program?

And their TaskBarPlus utility looks interesting too.

    • +2

Please have a look at this article, which compares Bitdefender and Microsoft Defender
      https://cybernews.com/best-antivirus-software/bitdefender-vs…

    • Makes sense, thanks

    • -1

No. Nothing is. You do not need any other antivirus. Full stop.

  • Anything this does better than Windows Defender, at least for PC? Not sure of the benefit either for my Android (I just use virustotal to scan apk's before I install them).

  • Anyone else have issues activating their provided code as reported above. If not has anyone tried to stack?

    • A few reported here, better to hold off I think.

    • Activation code provided after purchase does not work for me.

      • Took a chance and it worked. I even stacked and now covered to Nov 27. Only thing is I needed to activate auto-renewal and put in cc. Now I have the arduous task of trying to turn it off.

  • Is there a deal for the multi-year code?

  • Would this make Windows 10 okay to use considering they’re not doing any security updates any more?

    • +2

No, Antiviruses never replace security patches. Just like Panadol can't replace vitamin C

      • That’s a nice analogy, but isn’t it more than just antivirus? Maybe more like a multivitamin.

        • +1

Microsoft's Patches for Windows fixes software vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit. Think of them as flaws, exploits, loopholes & misconfigurations that might exist in Windows.

Easy to understand analogy: It's kind of like leaving a door or window unlocked. Someone who understands your house very well could use that door at any time to walk in and steal your stuff.

Antivirus software does not patch outdated software — it doesn't lock those doors, so anything that hackers can still exploit will remain until you install the security patch / upgrade to a new version. And that's why Microsoft patches Windows so often, usually on the second Tuesday of every month (called Patch Tuesday) but sometimes there can be critical updates that need to be pushed immediately if it is serious.

    • (hope this goes without saying but make sure you use something like massgrave dot dev to get extended ESU for W10 :))

  • +1

Purchased and charged but order flagged for “manual authorisation” apparently. Let’s see how we go…

  • Does this stack on top of the existing period?

  • Worked for me, unfortunately didn't give me the option to extend but Bitdefender support sorted it out pretty quickly

    • How were you able to contact BitDefender support? I get stuck in endless knowledge base articles - no access to an actual support person and not able to raise a support ticket.

      • Worked it out… keep scrolling to bottom of page.

    • BitDefender online chat support were not able to help me out with the activation code not working. They said they have escalated to the appropriate team internally and they will get back to me by email.

  • +3

tried but get the message "Oops, something went wrong. Please try again later." Escalated to support who keep handballing it to someone else.

    • I get the same issue

      • i did ask the chat is the code was valid, they said yes. so maybe something with my account. They escalated and said it will be sorted before my current expiry in 11 days.

  • If you get it to work you will have to put credit card details in for auto renewal. You can cancel it but why the hell do I have to put my cc details in for something I've already paid for? Scammy tactics in my opinion.

  • futher 5% off with coupon code OMENVIP

The fanticial link worked for me to extend my current subscription by a year, but it wanted me to make the renewal automatic as part of tjhe checkout process. i did this then turned it off immediately.

  • Worked perfectly. I bought one, and added it to my current subscription, and then bought another and added that, too (unless I'm missing something, you can only buy one at a time).

    • Was it difficult to add to your current subscription. As last time I tried to do that ( a few years ago now) it ran a parallel one. Overlapping, Took a bit of effort via support to add to my current one. So I guess I’m asking was there a tab or link to add to your existing or did it automatically see you had one and extended it?

      • This happened to me just now. Have logged a Support request to make the subs run sequentially rather than in parallel. Would also be interested in how @Ford Prefect did it so seamlessly (other than adding it on the same day as the existing sub is expiring).

        • +1

I bought it anyway and took the risk. Yesterday it was showing as a parallel subscription however today I was going to contact support to merge them. However I didn’t need to as when I looked today it was merged and therefore extended for the year. Didn’t have to do anything. One thing to potentially watch is that last time there was a limit of 5 years in advance. Not sure if that still applies. I just pushed mine out to just under 5 years , and turned off auto renewal.

  • worked for me. thanks OP

  • +1

I decided not to renew my Bitdefender subscription after having it for 5+ years… when there are no deals, even with the attempt to bring me back after trying to cancel, it just wasn't worth it. I get the appeal/benefits of a paid antivirus/firewall/etc service across a household of devices, but I will admit I haven't had any issues (touch wood) since defaulting to the Windows and Mac inbuilt protections.

    • +1

Was of a similar opinion as the last time I paid it was only $14 on a similar deal. I stacked at the time and got 2 yrs. Up until now I couldnt find any deals so I let membership lapse. However have jumped on this and now covered till 2027.

      • Stacking newbie here. I'd like to stack as well on my existing sub which is about to expire. Would you be able to share how stacking is done? Do you buy two codes and activate one after another on the same day? Or activate one and save the other for activation a year later? TIA!

        • +2

Given the issues reported by some I bought 1 code for initial test. when I logged on I got prompt to renew my sub….I opted to renew with code. It initialy failed and I tried again and before it would complete the transaction it asked me to enable auto-renewal and enter card details (there is a message saying you won't be charged now). After inputting that details the transaction completed and everything went through. I checked under my subscriptions and confirmed I had sub till next year. I went back to fanatical bought another code went back to my account and found the buy subscription and opted for the renew with code again. Despite just having enabled auto-renewal it asked me to do it again. After redoing it the transaction went through and I checked my subscriptions and it said I was covered to Nov-27. I then tried to disable the auto-renewal function but couldn't find the section. I had to wait a couple of hours before it reappered under "my subscriptions" and I disabled it.

    • I did the same. Just no good deals when it was time to renew the bit defender subscription for another year. Currently using Windows defender and adding chrome extension ublock origin lite and it's been good so far.

  • Last time I checked, Bitdefender throttles your download speed to 1GbE for some reason. I tried asking support for help and eventually they did give me a temporary config to apply which got me 1.73Gbps, but eventually they just circled back to trying the stuff they already got me to try which was annoying. I uninstalled Bitdefender from my main Windows install since I want to have a 2.5Gbps link to my NAS, kept it on my other installs.

    • Strange. I have Ethernet connected NAS through 2.5GBps link and never had any issues - I see real speeds over 250 MB/s when transferring large files. Bitdefender runs on all my machines.

  • i remember like 5-10 years ago it was selling for $5 on newegg or some deal website

I wish i brought more lol

There is one sneaky trick I found but not sure if people will exploit it too much if I post it here.

    • ?? Sir this is OzB. Dnt be a selfish hoarder.

      • Your private messages is disabled

        • I just enabled it. Please share dear kind sur

I'm also having activation issues, in touch with Bitdefender support and Fanatical helpdesk ATM and hopefully get this resolved.

  • I couldn't activate the code on my existing account. Help desk was not helpful.
I created a new account and was able to make it work there.

  • Could not renew with code. Fanatical directed me to Bitdefender. Ticket opened with Bitdefender on 18th and still waiting for a resolution.
