[PC, Steam] Lossless Scaling $5.12 @ Steam

1850

Lossless Scaling is a powerful tool that enhances your gaming experience by making games smoother with LSFG frame generation and optionally improving quality or performance with various scaling algorithms and machine learning models like LS1. It's compatible with most games, even those that don't have built-in frame generation or scaling, as well as with other applications and a wide range of hardware.

I dont use the scaling thing on this just the framegen to make make locked 30fps games feel like 60/120. Its not really making the base game double or quadruple the framerate but it makes it feel sooo much smoother. Works wonders

    • +5

You can use dual GPUs as well with lossless all without needing an SLI bridge.
you can have one GPU handle rendering while lossless assigns the other GPU to handle frame generation.
Just look up “dual GPU” on YouTube.

      • But then it goes from $5 to $250. It's worth $5 to bump up your frames with this program. But, honestly if you're spending $250 you're better of with a new card.

        • +11

the idea is for people to dig up their old gpu to reuse, not necessarily buy a new card for the sake of doing this. so its still $5 frame bump with less latency now

        • +2

Lots of people have old GPU's lying around to go with this. I have like 15 old ones here (not everything is suitable though tbh a riva tnt2 or s3 virge probably would not do the trick)

          • +2

@Franc-T: 15 you say? Do you need a new best friend? Because I'm on the market, old buddy, old pal. Best part if you're my best friend I'll make to stop all the nasty rumors I'm currently spreading about you. What do you say? Also Franc-T drinks drinks out of the milk bottle and responds to every sms with a thumbs up! You brought this on yourself Franc-T.

            • @SarcasticEmu: Im not sure how that is a punishment sips milk anyway you do know how old a S3 virge is ? Its late 90s tech - at a card every year or so they add up, though some of my hobbies mean i have acquired a few others lately.

        • +3

What a dumb assumption to make lol

      • +2

This is how I use it on a gaming laptop; works great!

      • +4

Can you make an iGPU do it instead?

      • Was just watching a clip on that a couple of weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4uU7jOQuKo

  • Would this help for a 34" ultrawide? Have found certain games to be a bit too stretched at the native res on older games

    • +1

i'm not sure if this has anything like that

    • +1

i think you would need to be finding custom .ini files, or a dll fix for each game

    • +3

I use flawless widescreen to play older titles on my AW3425DW, works really well & can even uncap FPS on some games.

    • +1

sort of, because you can also adjust aspect ratio in lossless scaling.. but ultrawide monitors just dont work well for old games in 4:3 ratio.

it's like watching iMax content on your TV, you'll always get the black borders because of theyt were filmed/rendered specifically in a screen ratio

  • +1

This is super helpful when you watch local videos. It can make the video silky smooth. also works for game (but i never used it for game).

  • +2

Installed this on the ROG Ally and makes games feel a lot smoother especially for the lower power settings.

I rate this software. As someone who refuses to upgrade from a GTX 1060 6gb, I've been using it to play battlefield 6.

Without software 45-55 fps (still playable tbh)
    With software 75-80 FPS

The most interesting part is that I've found there to be very little input latency, I barely feel it!

I found it a bit tricky to set up but I watched some youtube videos and got it sorted.

    • What cpu and setup were you running bf6 on with that 1060? My i5-3570k with 32GB ram and 1080Ti could barely play the game as fps was all over the place.

      • +1

Ryzen 7 5700x CPU with the 1060gb and 16gb ram. I also have my GPU slightly underclocked.

      • +3

Your CPU and RAM are holding you back big time with modern games.

        • Yeah, it's why I asked. Wasn't sure what cpu he was running.

        • I thought my CPU was pretty decent?

I don't play many modern games, bar battelfield 6 atm. I'm just waiting out until GTA 6 to upgrade my whole system.

          • +2

@banterbants: He's not talking about yours.

          • @banterbants: your cpu is more than fine for the next bunch of years, its a beast :)

          • @banterbants: Yeah thread system is a bit confusing. I was responding to tessel's system and the fact it uses DDR3 RAM and a Quad core with 4 threads only.

    • +6

A GTX 1060? I can picture when someone wants to game on one just grabbing it in storage and blowing off the dust. This is some ancient technology that belongs in a museum.

      • +1

Yup, shes an oldie, but a goodie, hasnt really let me down. Only now am I starting to feel it's age.

        • Honestly, I'm almost no better since I'm running a 2060. Granted, it's only one, two, three, four? No that's not right that means four years have passed and yet I'm no closer to my dream of being Queen of Australia.

          • @SarcasticEmu: lol. My desktop has a 1060 & my laptop runs a 2070 (so 2060 desktop equivalent).

It's getting time up update but I'll wait for the 50-series Supers for the desktop. I always regretted missing out on the 20-series Supers.

      • +1

Still supported in the NVIDIA driver and the 1080/Ti is still a very capable GPU for 1080p.

Now a RIVA TNT 2, that belongs in a museum.

        • it be worth something in the future. all these retro builds

      • +1

Its not much better, but I play with a 1070Ti, and get a locked 60fps.

I do use some specialised settings file that I grabbed from reddit though.

      • I used a GTS 450 until a few years ago. PC was made out of parts found in the trash. Beat that!

          • @SarcasticEmu: Unless the Gameboy was your main Windows device, it doesn't count :)

            • @Zackeroo: I installed windows onto a Galaxy S4. Also my first gaming laptop was an m11x which was my daily driver. Those were the days.

  • +2

This app is amazing! Use it on my low powered laptop! Turns my crappy 30fps 1440x900 to 2880x1800 at 60fps! Incredible!

  • +2

Great software. Generally not as good as native frame generation that comes on your GPU but for any case where that isn't available this is excellent. Free frames.

  • +9

    Game changer for steam deck

  • I only really use this for older games without native DLSS/Framegen and fps locked (ie Mass effect Legendary Edition).

But damn it works so well on all my streaming apps (mainly stremio) at 165fps matched to my 165hz refresh at 2k or 1080p to 1440p upscale

Also use this on Skyrim Nolvus V6 Modpack Ultra detail.. my 4070S just couldnt keep up at 2k (<30fps) so have the base game at 1080p, then using this for frame gen and upscale to 60-120FPS.

Even works well on retro windows emulators like RetroBat.. old Wii and Mame games look mint

  • Best $6 I spent ever in my life. I primarily use it for watching videos buttery smooth @120fps on youtube, prime, netflix, disney+ etc. Great for getting 120fps out of some fps capped games as well.

    • +8

You watch movies intended for 24fps at 120fps?

    • +2

Why would you want to watch movies with the soap opera effect lol

I wouldn't use it as a selling point for the general public lmao

      • lossless scaling frame gen is way better than the usual smooth motion on TVs though. v3.1 produces very little to no ghosting.
as for 24fps to 120fps, it depends on the shows, some exhibit more artifacts than others. For youtube I use mostly 120, for tv shows 60 (2.5x) or 72 (3x) are also good if there are too many fast scenes.
I have an oled tv, but ever since I bought this app, I just watch everything on PC.

  • +10

Picked this up for the Steam Deck and it's incredible. Highly recommend even at full price. There's a great guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cTFfln13pc on how to set it up with some recommended base settings to start with across games!

  • +1

    Best money you'll ever spend.

  • +1

    Thanks Hippo!

Bought this and used it once. It keeps stopping when you switch windows

  • +2

I am buying this because I see over 100 upvotes.

    • +1

I'm selling a paperclip for a $1000 dollars. Now! We Wait!

  • For something like watching anime on Crunchyroll, would this upscale frames more nicely through a browser on a PC compared to inbuilt on an LG TV?

    • Buy it and let us know.

You should be able to use the 2hr refund if there's issues.

I'm quoting Caped Baldy here cause I'm lazy and copy-pasting is quicker than writing the exact same thing :)

    • Interpolated anime looks terrible imo. Same with interpolating 24fps cinema

  • +1

Works great when running capped 60fps games (like Binding of Isaac) and using a 60hz+ monitor

  • Anyone know if this works to improve frame rate for VR?

    • +2

No it doesn't work for VR sadly

  • Will this work on an Ayaneo Air Plus Intel version device with Bazzite installed?

    • +1

Buy it and let us know.

You should be able to use the 2hr refund if there's issues.

      • Thanks. How can I test if it actually works in 2 hours?

  • Is it hard to use?

    • +1

Nope, I just watched a yt video and copied the settings. I'm sure you can go more in depth with settings but I did enough to get it up and running and it's been great.

    • +1

Depends, are you able to push a button?

  • Just tried it after being in my wishlist for the last year. Doesn't seem to like my 49" Ultra wide resolutions and stuff for my main laptop / desktop. I have to try it on my handhelds next (MSI Claw and GPD Win2 Max) to see if the iGPUs will make a difference.

  • bought. can't go wrong for 5$ and i got a steamdeck too and older 5700xt. win win win

  • I've started using this while streaming videos. Easy increase in quality.
