  • I got this recently on the last day of promotion.

I reckon best value for teens atm , others hardly have deals nowadays

    • there are a few around at the moment

Agruably all better than Lyca due to slightly better customer services…slightly
and more flexible data..I prefer 200GB for 365day rather han 17GB/30days

      • Yeah i have seen them , but this is cheap to start, Lyca got bad custmoer service? We ll see hopefully wont have tto deal that much with them

        • I am just saying there are better value deals out there from price to data/service ratio..best deal may not be the cheapest one..and it's subjective to personal opionins

          • @xmchen: This is perfect for my teen who uses an iphone. Iphone (at least iphone 12) doesn't have the function of limiting data use per day or per month as an android, so he used all data allowance for 1 year within 6 months even I asked him to limit the data use when going out (he used wifi at home, no mobile at school). He was extremely grumpy for the last 6 months whenever we went out, his brother with a 2nd hand crappy android could enjoy watching youtube while he couldn't. He learnt his lesson and tried to download all music/video he like to listen/watch into his phone via wifi at home in advance. Now with this plan, it's easier to wait for a few days to get data again than a few months

      • 17gb can Rollover so not a biggie for me

        • nothing wrong, just personal preference..my kids use 5gb to 10gb a month as they are on wifi in school or home but they could use 50gb to 100GB in two weeks when we are on holiday so per annum better than per month

Cashback is a pain and its not worth risking not getting the cashback

      Lyca… Never ever ever.

  • does the plan start immediately at time of purchase or at activation? if at activation, how long can u hold off activation for?

Just be aware of the following (current customer and regretting)
    1. Does not support mms - you can receive but not send from what I've been able to determine - real life entering mmsc does not allow send. Google search seems to verify
    2. The international calling is not what is advertised. I try to call family in NZ and it uses some ip VoIP redirector and it's sh*t. Requires you to enter pin and then voice quality is worst I've ever used. I've given up and will use Whatsapp which is perfect.

I won't be renewing after my expiry.

    • Big thanks. Good to know about the international call

    • I was going to sign up specifically so I could call family back in NZ. Thanks for the heads-up.

    • Does 13xx and 18xx numbers included in the free calls? Also does it support WIFI calling?

Sharing my experience, it's been 5 days (and counting) and I still can't get my Sim activated. The online Sim activation throws an error for me. They're chatbot is an absolute joke. The chat to agent hangs in infinite waiting loop (I've had this on all day and nobody chats with you). I've had to go to the social media accounts to chat with someone, who may or may not be able to assist because it's sporadically checked and depending how they feel may or may not help (it's says you've read my message, so help already)

    • Cut your losses and buy a different sim. It's not worth the stress.

    • TIO. I have been double charged and no means of contacting them.

    • I recently requested a refund as a phone doesnt support eSim and I had to get a physical version instead. Lyca mobile took 1 month to refund me and still NOT processed yet…..

Their customer service hotline is flat out (possibly low on staff and handling too many requests or complaints), each time took me 45mins to 1 hr to get to speak with someone and there is no supervisor to escalate to.. it's becoming a joke really!

    • I wish I read your comment before I bought the sim a week ago.
I received the sim in the mail yesterday and experienced the error " Please validate your document details and try again". I tried multiple ID's from various family members but ALL failed.
No one answers their 1300 number either arghhhhh.

May i check if your activation was successful in the end?

LYCA SUCK BALLS, DON'T BUY THIS. worst experience I've ever had with a provider. They don't even have Australian text licensing so you can't send text messages mms etc.

    • +1

No mms? Quite important these days. I can see this is mentioned on their website but it should be in this deal's description.

  • +2

I bought two of these in October and soon discovered that you can neither reliably send nor receive MMS texts. LycaMobile's web-site does not clearly disclose this failure. I will switch to a more functional provider once the LycaMobile contract expires. In all fairness, apart from no MMS texts, LycaMobile's service works okay.

  • Don't know why people have MMS issues, it's OK here. The only problem is the porting in.

Also the plan states 4G but it's actually 5G.

    • Care to share your apn settings for it then. I've tried for normal and mmsc and it does send

      • The default, maybe the CS did something, I had massive problems with porting in, took like 4 days, I had to call back like 5 times.

        • Lucky you can get to chat with a person over the phone. I been waitting for hours and no one answer the phone.

          • @Mick1234: I called during working hours, at 11am. They all say 24 hour phone support but I never believe that, I call between 9-4.

            • @GTR12: I tried the number yesterday (4pm) and this morning (9am) and wait for hours, no one pick the call. It seems to me no one working in the customer service….

Anyway, lets say if I dont active the sim even though I received the sim, does auto renew still founctioning?

              • @Mick1234:

Anyway, lets say if I dont active the sim even though I received the sim, does auto renew still founctioning?

                No auto renew.

Also take it up with the TIO to get your money back if they refund the price of the plan.

  • The 600gb deal is also really cheap for $175.

How long do you get to activate the SIM?

    • Did you get and answer to this? The terms say need to activate within 30 days to access the benefits but I think this just means you will lose any bonus data if it comes with any. Most of the other companies allow 1 year to activate but I couldn't find anything to confirm if Lyca gives you 1 year as well.

  • I bought this eSIM for my kid's watch. The porting process wasn’t hard, maybe I got lucky. My biggest gripe is having no MMS option, not sure how this is even allowed in Australia

  • +1

Even if you held me prisoner and tortured me i would not purchase lyca mobile again

    • -3

Seems optus suits you well without 000

  • OP, How long were you waiting for the Customer service to pick up the phone?

I am currently going through the "lovely" holding music for HOURS but no one answers the call.

I tried multiple ID's and different types of ID's from the family members but all got the same error message "Please validate your document details and try again"

    • I received my SIM also. After I ordered I read the reviews and replied to their email 2 hours after requesting to cancel the order and they never replied back and just sent the SIM. I tried to call for 30min few days after payments was cleared but never answered as well.
I am planning to activate the SIM soon may be on Monday as my current term finish on 25 Nov. I pray I don't have similar problems like you too, but does not look great!!

      • How many days you got your sim? (I am still waiting, but keen to cancel the order)

        • I ordered on weekend 14/11 and I emailed to cancel same day, but never responded and they sent it by register post and was received few days after. Anyway, I managed to port in and it went smoothly, so no issue so far. I just want to cancel Auto renew now and keep it for the year, but I can not figure out where to cancel the auto renew, also they kept my credit card detail on file.

    • @Deserve this Did you manage to activate the sim? I'm getting the same error message.

  • Thank you @huntabargain
I think as per google, you can login to your lyca account, then goes to payment (or manage payment), then turn the auto renew off. Not sure if you have tried. Let me know how you goes

btw, do you recall how many days you received the package? (I ordered on 20/11, but stil have not received, dont know if it is normal)

    • I think it arrived within a week if I am not mistaken. It was not very long as I said it was registered mail.
I checked the auto renew option as you mentioned but its structured to be renewed every month, so can't turn it off now, perhaps have to wait till few days before the 12 months expire??

  • so the system does not allow you to turn the auto renew off now? (the founction is grey out?)

    • you can turn it off, but it said next renew date is 25 Dec 2025, so obviously I don't want to turn it off as it probably means you will loose the next 11 months left..

      • if I dont active the sim even though I received the sim pack, does auto renew still founctioning?

(I am thinking of cancel the order as this is horror experience)

        • The clock start counting from the day of activation, so you are not customer yet if did nothing.
How will you get your money back then??
I thought the same as you, but I managed to port-in with no issue, it is very concerning that you can not talk to them and they don't reply to emails though.

  • I see. My priority concern is that if lyca keep charging me on my CC each year, if I am not even their customer. I should not worry to much on this one then.

Money back: I am going to speak to my bank first, if not helpful, I have to go to fair trading to get money back.

    • +1

Go check with your bank and see what they says first. But I thought I can always port out after 364 day, then they can not charge you, as you are not with them anymore? Not sure

  • Thank you @huntabargain

  • Did anyone get their data roll over work? Mine expired after 1st month.

    • I just started a few days ago, so dont know yet. But is it automatically rolled over? I can see this option:
Your data allowance resets every month. Switch to a data roll-over plan to keep unused data for future use.
I tried to click it but don't think it did anything?
