BlueAnt X-3D MAX Wireless Speaker - Black $89 (Was $279) Delivered & More @ BlueAnt Online

BlueAnt X-3D MAX - 40 Watt Waterproof Wireless Speaker with 360° sound and up to 12 hours playtime

Purchased one of these speakers last week from my local Officeworks in their store clearance (same price) and I was so pleased with it I went back to grab another (they can pair for stereo). Unfortuantely they had no more stock - was gutted. Looks like Officeworks no longer stock BlueAnt hence the clearance

Anyway, registered the product with BlueAnt for the extended warranty and then this morning received an email re their Black Friday sale and was thrilled to see the speaker at the same discounted price so purchased it straight away!

Check out this review by CyberShack - shout out for their in depth reviews.

I LOVE this speaker, and at this price it is an absolute steal.

Some details from the review:

Under the hood?
This is a 360° mono speaker with two speakers (four amps) facing forward and two facing back. Each side comprises a 50mm 15W woofer (bass/mid) and 20mm 5W tweeter (treble) in a simple crossover mode covering 75Hz to 20kHz. There are top and bottom silicon passive radiators round out the low notes. Most lower-cost BT 360° speakers use only two speakers.

The speakers are True Wireless stereo pairable. Inputs are BT 5.3 and 3.5mm 3-pole stereo.

How does it sound? (Rating: Exceed)
You must remember that this is an IP67-rated, sealed enclosure. Most lower-cost IP-rated speakers sound dull as the full frequency response cannot escape through the waterproofing.

BlueAnt has achieved an almost perfect neutral signature that neither adds nor subtracts from the original sound.

While it claims 75Hz-20kHz we found bass creeping in at 40Hz (low) and building solidly from 50-100Hz (mid) and then flat (good) to 20kHz. Perfect.

CyberShack's View
It has good battery life, floats, sounds terrific, continuous play, and is from an Aussie company. It gets a buy recommendation.

Got this last year for free when signing up to an Optus plan and it’s actually really good. I was very pleasantly surprised. I even got my mum one for Xmas last year. Definitely recommend at this price.

I bought this one, and was also pleasantly surprised.

Would buy blueant again in the future. Also I think they're Aussie owned?

      • Yeah Aussie owned - based down in Victoria.

  • Just pre-ordrered the X5i after careful consideration for a party + Karaoke speakers, not going to splash out more than double for a JBL version.

Hopefully these are good quality speakers..

    • I was really tempted. If you can be bothered I would love to hear how you go with it once you have tested it out. Cheers!

  • Recommend if you don't want to use it for multiple devices often. This is what I said last deal for $85:

Very good sound quality for the price, however the Bluetooth is rather broken and a nightmare if you want to use multiple input devices.
You can only have 1 device connected at a time and simply pressing disconnect from Android isn't enough to actually disconnect it, you have to do "forget".

My dad bought one and I was helping him set it up, I started testing from my phone first (because I was also curious how it sounded) and selected disconnect from Android, said "brb, don't touch it until I get back" and went to the toilet, came back and it was playing my music… It'd opened Foobar2000 on my phone by itself somehow (my dad didn't touch my phone but was fiddling with the speaker) and started playing despite having disconnected from Android (it reconnected somehow???).
Anyway, if you don't do "forget" it won't properly disconnect (the speaker will say disconnected only when you do "forget") and it won't show up for other devices as an option to connect to. That means if you have to forget the current device (if you have multiple that would be a nightmare), hold the button on the speaker and find the device and connect every time you want to switch devices…

Subjectively, the audio quality is lacking a quite bit on the very lows (but what $85 portable isn't?), mid-bass is pretty impressive but high bass sounds a bit over-emphasized, mids sounded pretty good though slightly drowned out by the bass, treble is a slightly under-emphasized in some areas and falls off quite a bit in highs but again for $85 that's to be expected. Surprisingly it gets pretty loud, since they only advertise max output rather than RMS I was expecting it to be quite a bit worse.

    • See my comment below about the bluetooth connectivity - I meant to reply directly here, but commented in the main thread by accident.

TLDR; You don't need to forget devices to change between them, you just need to release the speaker by pushing the bluetooth button for ~1.5s (until the blue light blinks). Any previously paired devices can just choose to connect instantly (no re-pairing required). Hope this helps.

Thanks I purchased and have already received it. Great sounding speaker.
Just noticed you can now get a further 15% off with Afterpay coupon APAYBF bringing it down to $68!

Re the Bluetooth connection - you can have multiple devices already paired, and then to switch between devices you just push and hold the bluetooth button on the speaker for ~1.5s. This disconnects the current device and allows another device to connect. No need to forget any devices.

Just did it on repeat between two different devices.

You can't simply connect 'over the top' of the current device that is all - you have to release the speaker first. Not perfect but at least less cumbersome than having to forget devices.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip re BT! At $74 it's definitely a bargain!!!

    • Re the Bluetooth connection - you can have multiple devices already paired, and then to switch between devices you just push and hold the bluetooth button on the speaker for ~1.5s.

Okay, that's fine if you want to rotate between 2 devices I guess but what about 3? Do you have to keep pressing it until you get the right one? If my Dad has it connected to his computer and mobile and I just want to connect maybe twice a month, I can't stay connected and I'd have to keep cycling through devices?

Assuming the speaker is currently connected to your Dad's computer and he wants to connect it to his mobile:

        • push and hold the BT button on the speaker (~1.5secs) until it flashes (this releases the speaker from the computer)
        • on your dad's mobile go to the device's list BT devices and select the BlueAnt speaker
        • it connects

Then assuming you are there and want to connect:

        • push and hold BT button on the speaker (~1.5secs) until it flashes (this releases the speaker from your dad's phone)
        • on your mobile go to your list BT devices and select the BlueAnt speaker
        • it connects

So whilst you have to connect the speaker each time it is just a case of releasing the currently connected device by pressing the BT button and using the device you want to connect to select the speaker.

The speaker remembers the last 8 devices so there shouldn't be too much hassle once it has been paired in the first place.

edit Interestingly, pushing and holding the BT button on the speaker disconnects my mobile, but doesn't disconnect my laptop. So for the laptop I have to disconnect from the BT menu. Process around connecting remains the same.

So process is: 1) Disconnect* device, 2) connect new device.

*Disconnecting can be handled from the connected device (BT menu > Speaker > Disconnect), or in some instances the speaker can be disconnected by pushing and holding the BT button on the speaker. Will try with another mobile and another laptop later to see if there are any consistencies!

  • Anyone able to help me out. This Blue Ant $89, JBL Charge 5 $86.63 or Bose SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker 2nd Gen $118? Bose currently $158 at Good Guys but have $40 credit. Seems like Good Guys don’t sell BlueAnt products. General use around home. Just after good quality sound and reliable product that is not too complicated to use.

    • As per my post above you can get this one in blue for $74 - no brainer for me :)

    • I just saw that post too and was just trying to work out if they are the same speaker but in blue colour.
Seems like a really good deal especially if they were $279 although ebay has original price at $99.99. I wish Good Guys sold this brand as I have credit I have to spend. :-(
