i'm not saying this game is a goty candidate or anything but it's fun and definitely one of the better ubisoft open world games.

but a loud group of relatively braindead people have issues with a gay woman being the lead character hence the poor user rating

      • -5

Like most games these days, why not give players the option of who to play as? I'd prefer not to play as a gay woman, just like many women don't wish to play as a male character, or whatever.

They took the character's 'look' from a feminine looking girl who modeled for them, then changed her to look masculine in the game. Why? It's enough already, no wonder all this stuff is being pulled back.

        • +14

look I know I am not going to convince you of anything but I just want to say that "Like most games these days, why not give players the option of who to play as?" just isn't true.

Take any sampling of games outside the RPG genre (and Outlaws is not an RPG) and the vast, vast majority of them have predefined characters. You just have an issue with this particular one.

          • -5

@get-innocuous: Sure, you want to put me in the category of 'braindead' just because I have a deference of opinion. I know how the ideology works.

            • +3

              @FXx: So what's your actual complaint here…

              • -4

                @smartazz104: Did I complain?

The game was very unpopular, I just suggested allowing people to choose another character. A more attractive, feminine female I would have preferred personally. If others like to play a gay or masculine looking female I have no issue with that. Perhaps choice may have contributed to a success as opposed to a financial flop? Who knows. Now it seems I've offended a bunch of people with my opinion. That's OzBargain.

                • -3

@FXx: I agree. The people who buy games are mostly hetero. So why don't we have the choice? Choose an attractive female protagonist. And then if you are gay and want to play and have an ugly lesbian then yes give that choice. But yes give the choice. Don't force 😊

                  • @Raj09: “Ugly lesbian” Jesus Christ mate. Cos you’re so attractive lol.

                • +2

@FXx: lol “a more attractive, feminine, female”. Dear lord how do you say that without an ounce of self awareness.

                  • -3

@Snagsandonions: You need confidence in who you are, your decisions and your opinions in life.

If my preference decision is offensive to those I've not chosen that's their problem, and yours on their behalf it seems.

                    Be better.

"I loved Max Payne, but why can't they let me play as a wisecracking Velociraptor from the late cretaceous period."

        • That works when the character is essentially a stand-in for the player, but in RPGs you typically expect the playable character to have dialogue & character development. Unless you're going to write multiple stories for different player characters that doesn't really work. Some do to great success, but it isn't reasonable for every RPG to do that.

"it's fun and definitely one of the better ubisoft open world games"

Jesus the things people will say when the bar has been set so low.

"definitely one of the better ubisoft open world games"

        Hahahahahahahahaahahaaha!

Oh? I'm sorry, you were serious? Let me laugh harder!

        HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!

      • -2

Yes that's not the point. The sexuality of the main protagonist should never come to play in the game whatsoever. Focus on the damn gameplay and less on the sexuality.

      • +2

I think we all know there were a lot more issues than the lead character being an unattractive woman. Don't know where you got that she was gay from but whatever. It was a mediocre stealth game with an easily forgettable story that didn't offer anything new or innovative despite being set in one of the most interesting galaxies to ever capture our imaginations. The gunplay was weak, you were very limited to what you could do despite being advertised as an "open-world game", and everything about the game was typical ubislop dressed up as a star wars game.

      • +2

Absolute garbage. The game has a terrible score because it's terribly made, nothing to do with the characters in it.

Watch this video and tell me that's a well-made game.

        • +1

This. The recent Star Wars has been utter garbage. When done right Star Wars is awesome, look @ Mandalorian, Rouge One & Andor. But this game isn't it.

The sequel trilogy was utter rubbish, but it has nothing to do with Ray being a female character. It's the terrible writing and soulless plot and Disneyfication of Star Wars that's the problem.

It's the same with this game, it's just not very good that's the problem. It has nothing to do with the sexuality or gender of the main characters; it's the overall poor quality of the game and sequel movies.

        • -2

Just speculating but perhaps the creators thought delving into DEI might excuse the poor quality of the content? Hollywood / Disney tried this and failed, over and over.

          • +1

@FXx: No, it's no excuse or reason for the poor-quality game or films. It's not about sexuality, gender or sex. The game and sequel trilogy sucked because they were poor quality and very poorly made from people who don't get Star Wars and don't love it, and it shows through the crap and badly made product.

Why they didn't make a Han Solo or Andor open world game is beyond me, the reason why those characters pop and work is because they are humans, they make mistakes and have good and bad qualities but are charismatic human beings.

Disney can virtue signal all it wants because it's their rights as a company to decide their values. But there is a reason Rouge One, Mandalorian, Andor worked, they were made by people who loved Star Wars and didn't care to push values onto people. Just well written material and very good production.

And there are openly gay characters in Andor, but it works because the writing is great. It fits naturally into the series. I have nothing against any gender, sex or sexuallity just make the end product true to Star Wars lore and make it work.

Still too expensive IMO for what it is. I might get it if it's free on Epic…

  • +1

I'd say it's worth it at this price! Fun game, interesting world to exploring and it offers a decent challenge when you crank up the difficulty.

I thought the writing at certain points was distractingly bad - I really didn't leave the game liking Kay and didn't feel she developed in to any more interesting of a character by the end, wasn't endeared to her at all.

Get it if you want/have an itch for an interesting star wars sandbox

    • +1

Are the extra missions in the DLCs/season pass worth it, if you've played them?

      • Ah haven't played those unfortunately, but if they're anything like the base game (and they do look interesting) then I'd say they'd be good too

Game was a decent length, but I was keen on more story at the end of it so will probably play them later

  • +1

At $50 I felt like I'd paid too much still, but $30 is probably good value. Nothing wrong with the game: the environments are sick, characters are passable and nails "I'm a criminal trying to get buy in the Star Wars universe", but the gameplay is a little bland.

    • I don’t get why all the game houses make these games with constantly squeezing through a tight gap, like it’s boring why constantly do it .

      • +1

It is used to hide in-game loading and stream in assets for the next game area, rather than forcing you to a load screen like they use to. They do this so you are not taken out of the game and maintain immersion. Yes, its tediously annoying with it being implemented in almost every game, but neat technical tricks like this become the standard in the industry because it works well to hide technical shortcomings that developers cannot 100% eliminate.

        • Thanks for this, that makes sense ! I’ll try and be less annoyed now haha

  • +1

$23 is about right for this game if it included all DLC which it will by the start of next year. So, I'd wait until all content is included then buy. I paid $72 on Steam, should have waited!

    • -1

Genuine question, why didn't you wait? I'm holding out for even cheaper because it looks ok for an adventure/RPG game, but there's no way I'd pay over $20 for it.

      • I bought because I love Star Wars, but just like most sequel Star Wars (Andor, Rouge One excluded, they were great) the game well it's not very good.

  • With Ubisoft it may likely drop further?
    I will wait for $15-$18

    • +2

Yes, I'll be amazed if it doesn't go cheaper. Ubi can have great sales, I remember getting Black flag for less than $10.

$29 on ps5 and xbox x @ Amazon for console gamers

  • +2

I just finished it and I liked it . Nice to do something different than be a Jedi . My only issue was the speeder gave me motion sickness and I never got over it the entire time .

  • I agree with the others, this is about the right price for this game. Fun Star Wars tourism, not much depth and you won’t come back after the campaign.

  • FYI Ubisoft stock has gone down a lot (at least 90%) and just recently they delayed the release of their quarterly earnings and halt their stock tradings

Not sure what is the future of the company (and their launcher)

  • This game or the Harry potter one?

    • -3

Support Ubisoft or support someone who funds a neo nazi group?

      • Hmm, I feel like Im missing something… I got 2 jobs - so can someone explain?

        • +1

          https://theweek.com/feature/1020838/jk-rowlings-transphobia-…

Not sure if that includes the time she funded a neo Nazi who came to Australia to speak to a crowd and the other neo nazis showed up.

That being said, the harry potter game got much more favourable reviews and is probably the better game.

        • +3

People think going against JK Rowling for voicing her concerns about certain political issues is worth also attacking the thousands of people who worked on this game and the people who play it.

Weird internet people being weird in summary. Pick whichever one you feel a stronger pull to. I personally enjoyed hogwarts more.

  • +3

I'm currently having a great time with this game on Switch

  • Even at this price I’m on the fence. I picked up AC Shadows last sale for $30 and that was worth it. But this just looks so boring to play, nothing like Jedi Survivor.
