Apple MacBook Air 13" M4 256GB $1299.99 (OOS), iPad Air 11" M3 128GB $719.99 Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

2030

Seems like a decent deal if you're in the market for an M4 Macbook Air. As usual, Costco membership, or gift card required for purchase, and I expect the usual price matching shenanigans to go off in the comments. Starts Nov 17th.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2025

Shame OW doesn't price match anymore

    • So it's already in OW policy now? No exceptions?

    • +1

Oh big shame. I got an M3 and priced matched with Costco last year. Amazing laptop, first Mac and very impressed.

      • Same got officeworks to price beat costco last year on my M3. First MAC and really impressed as well

    • +3

I just price beat at OW for the base model for $1327. Don’t have Costco. Amazon has the 13” base for $1397 and Ow is $1398. I imagine OW will update shortly

      • Not bad, only $28 more but without need to go thru painful membership process plus have the macbook in hand immediately

        • Yep, am already setup and didn’t have to travel either - don’t live near a Costco. And as they say, a MacBook in hand is worth two in the hole … or at least $28.

          • @EekyLeak: officeworks have corrected there price, now matched hardley normal and amazon price,so no more price beat, glad i got in this morning, kid needs it for school.

<end post, start rant - apple fans feel free to skip it>

I loath supporting apple due to there inflexibility/compatibility/strictness - also man who releases laptops with 256GB hdds these days, and who makes you pay hundreds more for a small drive update… 1tb drives are like 100bux! yet apple charges hundreds for tiny upgrades… leaves a real sour taste in my mouth..

with that said, the underlying linux terminal would make me considering using it.
            <end rant>

            • +1

@wisc: It’s Darwin which is more Unix/BSD than Linux. Make sure you install brew if you haven’t already, it’s great.

Apple soldered on nvme drives are too expensive as an upgrade, however 1TB is more than $100 for a drive with those speeds. They install twin 500Gib drives for maximum performance. I agree it should be cheaper, but not $100.

  • Should include screen size of MBA in the title

  • +4

Seem like a good price for MBA 13"

    • +6

Phenomenal price, 23.5% off RRP for current gen, still likely another ~3-4 months for M5 Airs to drop

  • if its broken, can i take it to apple store as it is genuine apple products or no?

    • It’s Australia local stock just like purchase from Apple. Except it doesn’t come with Apple Store change of mind policy.

      • +20

Costco’s policy is better, 90 days to return vs 14 days with apple

        • +1

          This

Apple provides 1 year of limited hardware warranty regardless of where the Mac is purchased from.

However, the ACL specifically states the seller is responsible for product defects within a reasonable time frame. If it’s purchased from Costco, then for an ACL claim you’ll need to deal with them instead of Apple.

It’s a reason why I prefer buying Apple stuff from Apple, especially a Mac expected to be used for many years. In my experience they don’t argue with you as long as it’s a non-user error product fault. I had a MacBook Pro 2019 which belonged to the batch of their SSD issue, but an in-store check confirmed mine had no problem. They still offered me a replacement, but I chose not to. Another one was an iPhone XS Max with bright green line on display, well beyond the limited warranty timeframe. They just repaired it same day with no questions asked.

      • +2

It’s not always the case. For my iPad Pro I had to fight with Apple to get it fixed, issue with screen leakage. After 2 years it becomes difficult not impossible.

    When will M2 256gb or M3 be sub $1000????

    • +7

      Bruh they've been sub $1k several times…

      • -2

        link??

        • -2

          well?

  • That’s a great price for an IPad Air. So Officeworks won’t price match or do their beat it by 5%?

  • +4

Should have waited for the M4 Air. Paid $1,338 from apple!!

  • +2

    Need MacBook pro 🤓

    • +1

The best time to buy macbook pro is during Back to School Sale with apple gift cards, cashbacks and free airpods if needed.

M5 base model is $2349 at apple edu store
With 20x reward on apple gift card, appx value: 2349-235=$2114, 7% avg cashback*2349=$164 (sometimes capped at $150)
      Total cost of owning: $2114-$164=$1,950.00
If you add airpods deal on top, much cheaper.

      • That would be Jan? Back to School Sale

      • Youll need to hope the new mbp m5s are out by then for that to happen

        • +2

          M5 MBP are already out…

          • +1

@doodlejones: M5 is out, M4 is old but M4 Pro and Max are still at par

          • @doodlejones: Perhaps they mean M5 Macbook Pro with not just the base "M5," but "M5 Pro" and "M5 Max".

    • +1

Same here bring on the M4 salds now the M5 has dropped

      • Yeah, waiting for M4 Pro - $2945 with Edu store atm.
Not sure if Costco or other retailers will do better?

  • +1

how do you obtain a Costco gift card? does it let you bypass membership restrictions?

    • how do you obtain a Costco gift card?

Have someone with an active membership by 1 or more for you. An idea may be to obtain multiple gift cards of the lowest amount possible, buying multiple, and using 1 gift card per unaccompanied visit.

does it let you bypass membership restrictions?

Yes - you can use the gift card without having a membership yourself AFAIK. If the total amount of your shop is more than the balance on the gift card you can pay the balance via other means like credit card.

  • Do I have to be in-store for this price?

  • Need membership😭

    • +1

      Costco membership is refundable anytime

      • +1

But last time I check, they won’t allow you to rejoin in next 12 month after cancellation.

        • Yes , they're on to scammers .

  • Wow no 256gb HD comments yet…

    • Or, only 16gb of RAM comments. Don’t you know it’s 2025!!!

      • they have 16gb of ram

  • Surely other retailers will follow suit in the coming fortnight with Black Friday?! Can’t be assed going all the way to Costco, signing up for a membership, cancelling said membership, etc

    • Just wait on it lol MBA M4 13" for $1.3k is just a $150 away from the AOC EDU price

  • Air vs Pro is like Corolla vs Prado. Get Pro.

    • iPad or MacBook ?

      • Macbooks

      • iPad only because I dont like OSX

    • +5

Not everyone needs a Prado when it comes to cars.

      • -1

just for heads up, hardware is very very different. For example Macbook Air CPU throttles down from 100% to ~25% GHz after only 20 sec of heavy CPU load. Display is shit too.

        • +1

Performance drop due to throttling is very small, here for example:

          https://www.rtings.com/laptop/tools/compare/apple-macbook-pr…

You would need to wait over 10min to see performancr drop, and after 70 min of load, it was still 90% for cinebench23/CPU load or 86% for GPU load.

Not something you'd notice outside of benchmarks.

      • -1

Not everyone needs a Prado when it comes to cars.

        Strong disagree.

  • +4

Waiting for Costco to put the rest of the M4 iPad Pro family on sale lol

  • Still got my Apple 11” air which they don’t make anymore but the 13” looks great too :)

    • Fired up 2013 11 inch the other day to check it still works. It did, but the screen! Love everything about the size except the screen. Fan and short battery life in comparison with our latest M4 15 inch MBA is quite woeful.

There are rumours of a budget (for Apple) laptop that will come out early next year priced below the 13 inch MBA, with an A series chip and probably it’s a revamped 12 inch rMB. If so I hope it has more than one port.
If A series, it will be ram limited (à la base iPad), so expect a lot of complaints on this forum.

      • They will never make a one port Mac again they learnt their lesson!

  • Take note JB Marketing Department

  • won't jb price match/beat this?

    • +3

Depends on the in store staff member / live chat agent you speak to, whether or not they’ve had a good day and if Mars is in retrograde

    • If you’re really after one and don’t have Costco, $1427 if you price beat at OW using Amazon ($1397, $1 less than OW lol)

      • officeworks have corrected there price, now matched hardley normal and amazon, no more price beat

  • seems only in warehouse. was waiting for online store…

    • Dang, was hoping to use a friends membership to buy online so I could avoid the temptation of becoming a member!

Attempting to get someone to price match is the next bet for me

  • Can you please share the link of the catalogue. I can't find it on costco website.

  • +2

Amazon has dropped iPad 11 m3 all colours $748/749. With standard 3% gc brings it to $725ish.
    Officeworks at $748 also

    • +1

Tempted to replace the 2017 iPad Pro 2nd gen but going to 60hz feels like a step down

  • +1

JB, Amazon, OW all got M4 Air 13 down to around $1399, they need to work harder and match Costco …

    • Amazon $1397, so I went to OW and got them to beat it (they were $1398 lol)

      $1327 without Costco needed

  • My son is starting uni next year and wonder if this is good/powerful enough computer science degree? (e.g to run Visual Studio and other software applicantions)

    • +1

      Yes, easily!

    • +1

Yes, BUT - if you can manage to get to an M5 MBP with increased RAM, that machine will see him through Uni and then some. For Uni work the Air easily handles but it depends if he wants to use the same machine for bigger projects as he progresses (or even BYOD for work)

You can get the base M4 13” air for $1327 if you price match Amazon to OW which is plenty for years 1 and 2 - but if he ends up wanting dual monitor setup and is compiling big projects, it’ll slow/throttle a bit.

And if he wants to get into some AI projects as well, could struggle if he is tinkering with local SLM stuff

    • +3

I have a Bachelor of IT degree + Master of Computer Science degree,

I can say he won't be touching any AI/ Machine Learning stuff until last year of the degree and the performance is almost irrelevant before then, even if he get a M2 Macbook.

He'll be spending a good year or two, to learn how to do basic coding, OO programming, learning algorithms, concurrent programming etc, and those won't be resource intensive.

He might need to have access to a workstation / gaming PC with mid-high end Nvidia cards by the time he learns AI/ML, and the Macbook will still be good for everything else.

    • +3

More than likely they will be using VS Code which is basically a glorified text editor.

On top of that, they will probably SSH into the uni's servers to run all the code. Which means its not even running locally on his machine.

So this will be more than fine for that. Any laptop really.

3rd year CS/electrical engineering here, my m3 macbook air with 16gb ram + 512gb storage is more than enough for any task i do.

    • +1

Thanks for the advice. Bought a one from Costco today.

  • Waiting for M6 Macbook with oled

    • Gotta be M26 to match the OS

  • Does Costco accept Afterpay?

  • How much RAM?

  • Thanks OP!

I managed to score a fantastic deal on the new iPad Air 13" M3 256GB WiFi by leveraging a Costco price and a little JB Hi-Fi loyalty.

    Preparation
Have the Costco pricing ready on your phone for the current price on the iPad Air 13" M3 256GB WiFi. At the time of this post, it was $1199.

    The Approach (Be Polite!)
I went into my local JB Hi-Fi after work and approached a staff member. I started by being super polite:
"There is something bothering me and I hope that you can help me out."

    The Price Match Anchor
I then presented the Costco price, framing the choice as a matter of loyalty:
"I am a Costco member and it is selling iPad Air 13" M3 256GB WiFi for $1199 (showed the member the Costco page). I could have gone to Costco to get it but I am a loyal JB Hi-Fi customer and I really want to buy from JB Hi-Fi, could you please see what you can do?"

    The Upsell & The Compromise
The member initially tried to upsell accessories:
Member: "Will you also buy case or keyboard, I can get you a good price on that."
Me: "I am only interested in the iPad. If I am going to buy the Apple Pencil Pro, will that help you to price match Costco?"

    The Manager Approval
This seemed to sweeten the deal enough for them to proceed with the price match (even though I wasn't forced to buy the Pencil).
Member: "Let me talk to my manager to see what I can do."
(After a while) Member: "Good news, you can get it for $1199."

    The Final Price Breakdown
    Price Match:
    $1199
    JB Hi-Fi Perks:
    Applied a $10 voucher/discount: $1199 - $10 = $1189

    Gift Card Discount
Paid with 5% off discounted Gift Cards
    $1189 - 5% ($59.45) = $1129.55

    Pro-Tip
Make sure you sign up for JB Hi-Fi Perks before you go to see if you have any $10 vouchers or other offers available.
Being polite and highlighting your loyalty can go a long way!
    Good luck getting the deal!
Let me know if anyone else has success! 🍀

    • Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS)
As I'm travelling within 30 days, I can claim the GST back on the final price match value.
      GST component: $1199 / 11 = $109.00
      Final Net Price: $1129.55 - $109.00 = $1020.55

      • Note you can claim TRS if you are travelling within 60 days (more time to shop!)

I have managed to make an online order with Costco and am travelling in Jan, so I should end up at 1299/1.1 (TRS) = 1180.91.

        • The item has to stay outside of Australia though right?

          • @Ten: You can bring the item back into Australia. If over $900 you're meant to declare it in order to pay the GST, but at that point the item is used and will have depreciated. The $threshold is pooled based on who you're travelling with: $900/adult, $450/child. So a family of 2+2 would be $2700 etc.

  • +2

lol and people still try to sell their m3 for $1500 on Facebook market place.
Do they really really find suckers who pay them that?

  • MBA 256gb OOS.
    In store only.
Marsden park NSW had plenty in stock as of yesterday.

  • Cant seem to find the m4 MBA 256gb for $1299… Only $1639.
