if i make 2 cups per day, is there a way to make the beans not go stale?
Keep your surplus beans in the freezer
Air tight cannister or freeze it
The Breville vacuum canister is actually quite solid, I divide my 1kg bags into 3 or 4 and freeze the ones I'm not using in freezer bags
If pre-ground, no.
If whole beans, they'll keep good for about a month after roast date kept in the bag. You can extend the lifespan a bit longer using a vacuum canister, but these have variable results. Your safest bet is to store beans in the freezer.
the Eureka Mignon range is good
DF54, couldn't justify the extra cost for the DF64 and it does the job.
Eureka or df64
Starseeker E55pro is a good option too
Tempting - but my Bambino Plus is still going strong after 3 years of non stop use.
same with me.
Apart from the dual boiler feature I see no reason to upgrade. The footprint is a lot smaller too which is great for tighter bench spaces. The dual boiler is huge.
58mm group head, more powerful steam wand, more stable temperature when brewing, etc.
but, if it's pumping out good coffee and you're happy with it, then definitely don't upgrade.
I'm currently struggling with my touch impress, used to make great coffee… Obviously the grinder is the weak point, but I believe the key is super fresh coffee beans.
58mm group head
Not the be all and end all. 54mm can still produce amazing coffee and you don't have to use as much either.
@TEER3X: I’m sure you know this but beans need to de gas after roasting, should wait at least 10 days post roast before brewing.
I’ve had some where they tasted fine couple days post roast (they were the only beans I had and I needed coffee), but my most recent purchase had me questioning whether this new roaster sold me stale beans cause the shots were pulling really watery and coffee was sour. This was 6 days post roast, now a week later it’s tasting like normal coffee.
@TEER3X: Unfortunately that means I need to get a new bottomless portafilter, IMS basket, and tamper. Gonna hold out as long as I can on my Bambino Plus till I am, ready to splurge
Wow non stop, 24hr cafe?
My Bambino+ is over 5 years old but sometimes gets a blocked milk wand, so i need to decide if i upgrade!
Mine hit 5 years, waiting for some internal plastic bit to fail any day now
My brain always defaults to “and get 1/11th back through TRS” but the idea of lugging this beast on my next work trip to NZ sends shivers down my spine.
As it’s over $900 it would also be fun convincing customs you weren’t bringing the machine back into the country … “that large box is just another unrelated item … yes, that’ll do”.
Dammit. Bought the $1222 deal last Thursday.
I just don't see how Breville hasn't updated this machine to keep it somewhat competitive… We're now talking machines with 6 minute heat up time, google voice, app integration, metal parts not plastic..
They've done the price rises yet no improvements..
Last I heard is they're still landing these for $400.
I couldn't imagine a coffee machine now where I can't ask Google to turn it on for me or turn it off or schedule it to turn on in 20 minutes time etc.
You're driving home and you want a coffee you don't want to have to go to McDonald's or somewhere for a coffee so you simply ask it in the car through the head unit to turn the coffee machine on and it does it…
Been arguing its not as good as it seem for most people. Especially compare with the convinemce of a Bambino Plus.
Having said that I find out since last year after my BB÷ broke that a duo temp pro is some how better and cost less than half the price.
I think for non coffee nerds, a ok grinder (I use SGP), ok bean (Aldi) and just brew correctly is good enough.
I've never used a bambino so I'm not sure.. I can see why it's popular though as kitchens are getting smaller. Many new builds won't fit a dual boiler in the kitchen.
It's just things like you shouldn't need an engineering degree to access the inside of a machine to service it or change a part every other machine there's four screws and you're inside.. a Phillips head screw not some proprietary special torx screw that you're going down to Bunnings and spending $50 bucks for a certain screw…
But it's an appliance I get it.. but they do this because it's metal on plastic which never ends well..
" google voice, app integration" so now your coffee machine is also spying on you? WTF. lol.
You can buy a $17,500 machine and yes requires an app.. Too many profiles and settings to do it via a machine pid..
Updating the internals was probably the biggest reliability upgrade they've done so far, I would say that the externals are more a nice to have design decision rather than anything else
You're still talking rubber hoses connected to metal with o- rings which fail in as little as 12 months.
That's because they provided plastic vs copper and brass.
What machine do you think is competitive with the BDB at this price point? with those features? sounds interesting…
That issue could probably be sorted with a $25 smart plug. Just saying.
This model is stupidly cheap in Australia compard globally.
This same machine sells for over $2000aud in USA. They go for significantly more than that in Europe.
In australia the next cheapest non breville dual boiler is a lelit Elizabeth @+-$2400 (which does not, by the way, have an app feature). After that prices only go up.
So for under $1k you are getting a f-ton of machine. There's a reason these are so often recommended. Even without "smartphone" compatibility
You get more steam in a HX machine then a dual boiler. You get a lot more plastic on a BDB and no you cannot use any smart plug.
Not sure about the new dual boiler oracle wether a smart plug can be used on that, you'd hope so for the price point.
Right. So what hx machine with smart app capability do you reckon you're getting for $1k?
@16k-zx81: No, now you're trying to compare a BDB vs a solid 44kg stainless steel machine with brass and copper. It's not that - it's a domestic appliance.
What I'm talking is simple features such as app control, pid upgrade or even compatibility with a smart plug by changing the interface or even just the on/off switch. I'm sure they can afford $11 on a different switch?
@Combo64: Your argument was that the machine should be updated because its "not competitive". I just gave you a number of examples that show its actually extremely competitive in its price point. So much so that it sells overseas at double its Australian price or more. I never said the machine has the same hardware as a lelit. But in its function category there's not much else touching it within $1k. Hope that's clear now. At this point you may still not see why breville haven't put any more R&D into it. Seems to me the answer is pretty obvious though.
Yeah nah none of this is correct. For the price this machine does everything an expensive machine does except flow control.
- Heat up is fast, I'd be surprised if it's longer than a minute.
- This machine has a built in timer too so you can program it to turn on when you want it to.
- If you look after this it'll last 10 years or more.
- At the end of the day these machines are just pumps. They all have vibrating pumps until you get into the $4000+ ones.
Get your head out of your arse. Talk to your coffee machine to tell it to turn on. Lol.
-Heat up is about 4 X longer than most machines now. You have a portafilter to heat too.
it has a clock to set ONE time to turn on - not multiple or a schedule.
rotary pumps generally are for direct plumbing
Even an ulka ex5 will last years and years and very affordable to replace years down the track unlike rotary pumps. Even on my Breville dual boiler the pump never failed you don't hear of them failing a pump lasts. It's all the other components that don't ball joints, o-rings, seals things like that
price point of the bdb is half the price for half the functionality and half the quality… They made to a price point not a standard.
I would put it down to like driving a car but having no Google maps and using a Melways.
An internet connected coffee machine is something I have wasted time thinking about. It's up there with internet connected fridges.
A. Was this ever $2599? I dont think it is a legit saving of $1600.
B. I have both one of these and a bambino plus, and it is night and day between the two
The Bambino Plus is better then?
Its smaller, faster but shot quality is not so consistent. If you are making milk drinks most of the time and not picky on your coffee, its a good machine. Only issue is now too expensive for what it is.
Per my comment above, after mine broke I got a Duo Temp Pro and find that the shot quality is about the same if not better. The machine is less than half the price of Bambino Plus.
As an ex barista I can tell you the Breville dual boiler is the best value for money coffee machine on the market.
Nothing comes close in this price range.
Totally agree. I'm on my 2nd Dual Boiler. Had my eyes on a Lelit Bianca as my next machine.. but man, when these go sub $1k, it's just impossible to ignore. Will probably just get this again.
what made you decide on the Bianca as an option? When my dual boiler eventually dies, I want to upgrade to one of the more 'premium' machines like Lelit.
@bAps: IMO rather than stepping sideways from the BES920 into a heat exchanger, the only way up was a dual boiler E61 machine (ideally with a gear pump and flow control). the Bianca had all that, but is it worth paying nearly 5 times as much as the Breville? On top of that now comes that Breville owns Lelit. It sure won't make 5 times better coffee and probably won't last 5 times as long either.. so it's a tough one. You really just buy that type of machine because you want something nice and are willing to pay for it.
Finally found the sane people here
100%
There is nothing on the market that does what this does for this price. When my original fully dies I can't justify any other unit for this price. It will be another one of these. Only my grinders have changed over the years.
Sub $1k! But still I have to ask… HODL??
I think this is as good as it gets these days - click related products to see ATL without other memberships (RACV) but pretty much around this price point
2 or 3 years ago, would have said so…. not now though
How many gift cards can be applied during online checkout with myer?
Online chatbot says 9
"If you have more than one, you can follow the same process to apply another gift card. You can use up to 9 gift cards in one purchase."
macquire bank app allows $250 gc denominations at 6% bringing price down to $939.06 if all 4 can be used
This man bargains
Is there any way to get the macquire gift cards without a macquire bank - or anything similar?
I want to pull the trigger on this but I want the Sea Salt Colour (BES920SST4IAN1) I really think the Stainless Steel version is dated.
I wonder if Good Guys or Harveys would price Match Amazon/Myers different colour version - would they notice?
Tried with the good guys but no luck. Gerry wouldn't even price match the stainless steel
I tried harvey's this morning and they wouldn't. Hopefully they will drop to compete with Myer in the next day or so.
Thanks for trying!
We have a Breville Smart Grinder Pro in Stainless at work and I just checked it then and it has heaps of fingerprints. I like the white because you wouldnt get that.
But speaking to a colleague at work just now, he said he has the Bambino in Breville's White colour and apparently the issue with that colour is that the coffee grinds tend to show up more prominently. Cant win! The best colour IMO is my current Barista Pro in Red Velvet.
That being said, Checkout what this person has done with their wooden elements on the Breville Dual Boiler White - looks amazing!

Ha, nice. :)
Tried the good guys, willing to match the price, is it worth to buy the gold service for 5 years warranty ?
That's up to you, the post 2022 machines are supposed to be way more reliable than the previous units.
Prices went up during covid for obvious reasons. They haven’t come down cause people keep buying them at these rediculous prices
What prices were they pre-covid on sale? I thought $999 was good for the Dual Boiler?
It probably is now considering how much they’ve jacked the prices, it was regularly on sale sub $900 around covid and before even less. I’ve seen someone here mention they picked theirs up for under $700.
I think when I bought my barista express the DB was under $200 more on sale, now it’s double the price
I paid $720 from Bing Lee in November 2018 and mine is still going strong. Can’t believe how much prices have risen since then!
Inflation should have them at $850 or so
Pre-Covid the combo (machine + grinder) was going from between $850-1000 IIRC.
Amazon, now at $999 (BSS) as well.
Thanks, I got one from The Good Guys for $997 over the phone
UPDATE: I managed to get the sales team to change the colour to the sea salt one but had to pay an extra $13. Worth it!
The sales team I talked with can only do $1060 for the sea salt color.
I am not to sure why people are obsessed with brevile. I reckon there are better machines out there like rancilio, Gaggia etc. I have been using the breville orcale( non touch version ) and never managed to pull out coffee that is consistent. I buy fresh beans, weigh beans etc. Breville tech couldnt find any issues with the machine. At least this one doesn't have built in grinder so you can control the dose and tamp.
Neither dose nor tamp should be changing. The only variables are beans and grind size.
They are extremely good bang for buck entry level machines. Racilio and Gaggia are absolutely not better for $ to $ comparison.
The Breville Barista Pro is an extremely popular machine that is a gateway entry point for home coffee enthusiasts.
The BDB has developed a cult following (and recommendations) as the step up and a great amateur level machine that delivers very good coffee for the price.
I've got mixed opinions and experiences on most of other Breville machines (more expensive/automated machines are meh) but their Bambino, Barista Pro and BDB are all great.
Yeah?. I guess my problem might be from not having control over the tamping and dosing. I wish I had bought a machine that gave me better control- not automatic tamping and dosing like the oracle.
Great Price !! Just bought it today. Which coffee grinder anyone recommended with this coffee machine ?
DF64
P64
Df83
Eureka Mignon ie specialita etc, or, df64
If you are shopping for a grinder consider first if you are wanting single dose and work from there
I've just bought one from GoodGuys price matching at $999, Stainless steel, they wouldn't match for Sea salt.
I'm currently looking for an addtional 58mm bottomless portafilter set, having experience from my previous one on the Delonghi Dedica where it doesn't really fit properly and had to be held all the time to prevent it popping out.
Which portafilters are recommended for this Breville Dual boiler?
So I wanted the Sea Salt COlour but MYER only had the Stainless Steel on sale.
I called Good Guys as they're local but they would not price match the different colour.
SO…I got JbHiFi via their Live CHat to match MYER (Before it was out of stock) and then I got Good Guys to Match JBHIFI as Good Guys had local stock.
JB was delivery only in 5 weeks time.
So got the machine from Good Guys for $989 + I bought the matching Breville grinder for $309
Nice!
I managed to get local stock at JB Hifi to match Myer no problem, but it seemed my local didn't have many machines at all.
Myer rejected my order saying they couldn't fulfill it
Can't find stock anywhere for under a $1000. Anyone having any luck today?
Jb price matched
I was able to get price match from JB Hifi, but without free shipping. I used Live Chat and asked for price match again but they said they couldn't price match because MYER are out of stock. So JB might be catching on and refusing these now.
Had my order refunded due to no stock from Myer. But I purchased discounted gift cards through my work benefits, so now I'm stuck with a $999 gift card -_-
Same
Order cancelled. Livid. What the heck Myer. Struggles to stay relevant in this day adn age and cancelling orders when theya re being competitive is not the way to do it.
Did it get to auspost stage or did you just receive a cancellation email?
18 November, placed order and got receipt.
21 November, got a "we are working on your order" email
24 November, order cancelled.
Never got a shiping confirmation and contacted their help desk twice before cancelling and was told it is "waiting on courier/pickup" which made it sounds like it was about to be shipped.
Jesus, you got stiffed. I tried it Monday (24th) and got a notification it was in the post today.
Suggestions for grinders?
