I have to return mine from last sales…the unit i got doesn't hold charge. battery drains under 4 hours, even inside case.
I also had to return a brand new pair, previous generation, because the left ear bud would drain from 100% to zero in 30 minutes. This was after i had them for a year with no issues. Common issue with these ear phones. Google it and you will see. Sony couldn't care less. Luckily i bought them from amazon who promptly refunded me.
How would these compare to the"nothing" earbuds that seemed to be an ozb fave from a few days ago?
Well you wouldn’t have goofy sticks coming out of your ears, and you might have better ANC. On the other hand, you’d have to deal with Sony’s annoying app…

Appears the "APAYBF" code can only be used once per account. I just used on a separate order and then tried it with these XM5 with a fresh order and eBay's throwing up the message "You already applied this code to an order". Thanks all the same OP but looks like I am stuck on $211
These have terrible ANC
Make sure you have a good seal with the foam buds, the app has a test for sound leakage. These are as good as Bose, I use them a lot while flying, had a crying baby right in front of me and while watching a movie I couldn't hear the screams at all. The sound stage on these is incredible, hearing details in songs that I never noticed before
did all that. we're terrible on the plane, couldn't even drown out car noise when walking in the city. my original pixel buds had better ANC, have the bose now. Lightyears ahead of the sony from my experience.
They absolutely do not. I have these and the xm3 over ears. I am amazed at how much better anc is on these compared to my old xm3s! Pretty sure most reviews place these best in class at their price point.
But obviously cant expect miracles with them. Flying with them certainly feels like a miracle though. Quite jarring when you take them out mid flight.
had the opposite experience on the plane, my old pixel buds were better. even searching reddit seem to show i wasn't the only one experience terrible anc.
Weird. You must have got duds. Wife has bose qc and the xm5s are much better at anc.

I would hope this model is better as I had the original and they were terrible. And after two years they do not even function at all anymore. Anyhow that has made me never want to purchase these Sony buds ever again. The fact that they are refurb makes me think the original owner had issues also.
Most likely were faulty returns, because ACL permits returned items to be sold as new. Sony resets them to factory state and can't replicate the user's issues in a 5 minute test so determines there was no fault, or simply doesn't care and just hopes the next owner can't be bothered with a return.
Some of the items on Amazon I've purchased recently have come with return warehouse labels or returns packaging but sold as brand new, too.
I would never spend too much money on a pair of earbuds/earphones, they simply don't last.
These have now been reduced even further to $161.91. Still won't buy them based on previous bad experiences with sony.

ive had these and the senheiser tw4 momentums.
these have won hands down. Dno about the refurb. but these are the best in ears ive had to date. the ANC is unreal. and they just continue to work.
again they are more basey than the tw4s, but ease of use wins out. and the ANC is in an entirely different field of its own.
I have to agree with the positives about the xm5s, tried more in ear buds then I can count Jabra, pixel, Samsung, JBL, Sennheiser, Bose etc. for an in ear the Sony's have amazing ANC, but what differentiates the sound quality amongst other brands is the clarity and soundstage. The sound is crystal clear. Bass is good but at a point you don't really crave it because you can hear instruments you couldn't hear on the other buds. Closest would be the momentums but ANC in the Sony edges out.
What is the microphone like with these?
My Xm4 microphones seem terrible. People struggle to hear me especially when windy
