100% HODL for this. They're coming. First with the 8-Core recent sale, now with the 10-Core.

Same boat. How long will you HODL for you reckon?

He doesn't actually buy stuff (not everything he comments on). He's a metric at this point.

I'm chasing 1500. Kicking myself that I missed the 1200 for the M3 512 at officeworks!

  • Good time to buy as I am going overseas in Christmas ?

    • If your overseas is Hong Kong, might be cheaper there lmao

I think they are referring to the TRS claim scheme

        • -2

Don't think TRS applies to this but hope I'm wrong.

          • +1

@marshmall0w2: TRS applies to GST on pretty much all Australian bought goods. Including this Macbook.

            • @AircraftFreight: Even for Australian citizens who will return home with their purchases? I always thought you couldn't bring back items you claimed TRS on (unless that's still the case but no one checks if one brought back such items).

              • @AussieDaddy: You could, just make sure that you have the number of people to cover the allowance. Adult $900, children $450. Easily covered by family of 4.

                • @yht: You mean even a single item that costs over $1,500 (like this laptop here) can be divided up to different family members? I'm single, but still learning new things about TRS. Thanks.

          • @marshmall0w2: Yes, it does.

      • Unfortunately not. Going to South Korea. What about the warranty ? Will AUS Apple accept if it breaks down or something needs to be repair or replace ?

Wait, if I check Apple Edu, the price is $1849. Will Apple price beat ?

    • no apple never price beat

      • They do for regular up to 5% of the RRP but not for AOC EDU I think.

      • maybe not beat but I've seen comments on ozbargain saying they were able to get apple to price match although I'm not sure which retailer

  • How come JB Hi Fi saying it’s $100 off from $1,799… I thought it was $1,999

Great price! Macbook Air with M5 chip is coming in spring 2026. Not sure if I should wait for it to go down further as my 2017 ver on still refuses to die lol

    • I’ve got a 2017 version as well, I’d be lucky to get 45 minutes of battery life.
      How’s yours?

      • +1

My battery is still going strong. 2-3 hours without any issues but I have replaced the battery twice. My volunteer job is not very happy about me continuing to use a laptop that’s unable to get update. I’ve noticed it is getting slower and gets very hot when loading some webpages.

        • Yeah same here! It’s getting slower!

Did you replace the battery yourself or at a store? I’m located in VIC.

          • +1

@TestIgnoreMe: Looking at my inbox and it looks like I've only replaced the battery once back in 2022 at an Apple store. It was $190 at the time so I am sure it is more expensive now. I am in the ACT. I've heard some third-party repair shops can do a good job and are much cheaper.

  • For anyone interested. I price beat at OfficeWorks today for the 24GB RAM/512GB Sky Blue

Amazon has it for $1997, $1 less than Office works. So got it price beat for $1897.15 final price for pickup in a few days.

    • thats a great deal, I'm not sure if I should pull the trigger on this deal or wait for a deal for the MacBook Pro M5??

I am currently on a 8gb M2 and I started using virtual machines which has made the laptop laggy…

      • Virtual machine on 8GB. I wouldn't even try it. Do you need to run powerful VMs? More RAM likely would serve you better.

        • I missed out on the OW price beat for the 24gb ram laptop but thanks for posting the comment

I am just using VM to run Linux.

I have started LLM development and Prompt Engineering which isnt too intensive but when I have Zoom open and browser open while I am doing this, my 8gb ram M2 gets laggy and slow

what do you think about the base model Macbook M5 (16gb ram)??

  • Bugger, they changed the price now to $1697 about 20 mins ago !!!

    • Seems like OW has an automated trigger if enough people price match they update the price? Maybe they check on a schedule.

I had to rush to OW to price match as soon as I caught that price.

  • Yeah both Officeworks and JB refused to go near Costco's price unsurprisingly.

  • +2

Officeworks has cut to $1627 now.

    • +1

      JB too

      • 5% off gift card brings it down to like ~1545 and that's a heck of a deal!
