Quality on these has dropped off massively. When I first bought some they lasted forever, all the new pairs since then have fallen apart within a year

    • +3

Agreed, the step ones seem to go really loose and lose their quality easily.

I've since bought a few pairs of the Mitch Dowd comfort bamboo trunks on sale at Harris Scarfe about a year ago and they're honestly the best I've ever worn. No wearing/loosening of the fabric, no holes or anything. Been trying to find them on sale again but have struggled, defs recommend though.

The black 3 pack is currently on Sale at David Jones. $38.95 (usually $64.95)

        • Might have to stock up, that seems decent. Thanks

        • I'm seeing 59.95, hopefully not dynamic pricing lol

Cannot agree with this more. Sadly i havent found a better alternative yet so still on the step ones, but the quality is nothing to what it used to be.

        I'm pretty happy with https://www.bamboozld.com.au/collections/mens-trunks

As above, the older step one lasted a bit longer but later batches are already getting ladders.. My son plays cricket and/or footy and absolutely killed the later step one in less than 18 months.

It made me giggle and a bit mad at the same time when they sent a marketing email along the lines of, you bought your step one trunks 12 months ago, time to replace them. WTF, is 12 months all they're good for??!? Where the bloody hell are yah?!

        • I tried the bamboozld ones, and found them to not be as fitted or comfy as the StepOnes. I feel like I've tried basically everything (because StepOne quality dropped so much, but I'm now stuck with the poor quality, as they're still the nicest).

    • +2

Agreeing on that. I've since switched to the kmart ones (Alpha), a lot cheaper and harder wearing.

      • +3

I bought Alpha ones and MAXX (Target brand) ones at the same time, and the Alpha ones are all developing holes where the stitching has let go, between the front and back "panels" of cloth.

The MAXX ones are still going strong, possibly because they have an extra panel of cloth in the crotch, which presumably means they don't have to stretch as much.

Hopefully the MAXX brand continues with the Kmart take-over of Target.

      • I find that some alphas have got worse as well. Massive amount of elastane leading to my tackle running down my leg because of a lack of hold on my new as of last week sport trunks. They have nothing like the rigidity and tensile strength they had. They used to be like lighter speedo jammers, now they're extremely weak and stretchy. Very annoying for lifting.

    • True.. very poor quality now

So glad to hear others are having the same experience, I’ve got pairs that are a couple of years old that are still going strong and others I bought maybe 6 months ago that have lost shape and very thin (the blacked out restock)
Such a shame as they were so good and I had every intention of buying them forever, I even started encouraging everyone to give them a try I was so happy with them but I’m not replacing them every few months when they are only worn less than once a week.
If anyone with influence is reading this maybe focus on getting quality back to where it was and retaining what could be a very loyal customer base.
      Just my 3c worth anyway

member 31mins ago and so eager to buy undies…. hmmm

    • +3

Maybe they just got overexcited after finally finding ozb and they soiled themselves… multiple times

That's a lot of reg grundies. Post history here.

Never had Step One boxers before but I've purchased a similar style from Temu. They cost $25 for a three pack every day of the week but if you wait until there's a 50% cashback they're an absolute bargain. If you read the comments many people say that they are better than Step One - can't comment on this as I've never worn Step One briefs as mentioned, but they are extremely comfortable. I also own Bonds, Champion and Aldi ones, but I like the Temu ones the best. The brand is Elewear

    • +2

Can you link the temu ones?

      • i just search elewear and found them easy

      • +2

These are the ones I've bought previously that I recommend.
        Elewear Briefs

        • +1 to the Elewear ones. Someone mentioned them about a year and half ago on on a comment and never looked backed. Best Ive ever worn but granted it was my first foray into bamboo.

The last set I got I had a couple rip instantly when putting them on. Shithouse quality these days. Plus I get mad chafe on my gooch which I never got with the old ones.

    Exploring other options now.

I just won the lottery - not enough to buy a house though
I think I will buy 280,000 pieces of underwear instead

    $12 for 5 undies from temu/aliexpress
    happy jan

  • I've been enjoying my Vantas for about a year now. I've only got one for each day of the week (or less) so they're on high rotation and still look and feel like the day I received them.

  • After my first run of Step Ones died, I got a bunch of dupes from ali express instead. they're still going strong and cost a fraction of these.

  • +2

I’ve been happy with these, originally purchased about 8 years ago and then again at the start of this year and no problem so far.

  • -1

Like clockwork all the "poor quality" posts will appear.

I've had step ones for years and usually load up when they do a sale like this (otherwise I just get whichever brand is cheapest).

I have no issues with quality. I would say they're thinner than the original ones I had, but they still last 12 months or more

    • +2

Agreed, and at $6.73ea with code on this deal, the complaints really aren’t matching the value offered here

      • +2

12 months is nothing to brag about. My el cheapo Slazenger ones from the sports direct deal a decade ago still hold up

  • Showing $285 for me. Deal ended?
