great game. fascinatng story and presentation of

    • If you've played the game and haven't watched, I would recommend the recap. I didn't have the interest in the gameplay to do multiple playthroughs but there's a lot of new content and story hidden in there that gives a very different perspective to your original playthrough:

    https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/ps5/300309-armored-core-v… - $28 at eb games

If you go to ebay eb games store and add another $22 to make $50 you can get 15% off afterpay.

Apart from the obvious of it being cheaper, there's a higher chance that the game will come sealed (if that matters to you) with JB also.

      • All the games I've bought from JB online in the last year or so have come unsealed. They essentially look second hand.

That said, yeah, you're guaranteed to get an unsealed 'new' copy from EB. They need to look up the meaning of new.

I‘ve had better experience getting sealed games from EB than JB, both for mail deliveries and pick up orders.

        • Nice! I feel like most of my not-so-great experiences with either store have come with Switch games.

I've had times where EB have sent me a straight up pre-owned copies with stickers on the back of cartridges. Lol

We ball tho, if it works I'm not too fussed.

            @Aretwo:

EB have sent me a straight up pre-owned copies with stickers on the back of cartridges.

That‘s bad mate lol. My worst was from JB during the peak of covid lockdown. It had a ‘buy 2 and save’ sticker slap on it and the case was bulging that it can‘t really kept closed. I haven’t touched it since.

    • how to get 15% off?

APAYBF. If you don't have other stuff go buy or don't want to use afterpay them see here to get 6% off.

    Need this price on Steam!

    • Been trying to find an Xbox copy for a while too but seems most retailers got rid of their stock ages ago and limited went on sale.

And this is why I keep my PlayStation around… well that and because I'm too lazy to sell it.

But every now and then you get a much better deal on one platform vs the other and sometimes you don't care what platform you play a game on.

Just be aware this one's for fans of Soulslike's with a git gud philosophy only. There's a point in early midgame where there are two back to back boss fights where the difficulty skyrockets, with no checkpoint between them (so you have to win both or redo the whole leadup and both fights apx 45 mins a failed run). I loved the vibe and setting so spent a fruitless 5 days trying to clear the section before coming the closest I've come to throwing a controller since I was 11, and I uninstalled for good. I'm sure I'll get some disparaging comments but if you're not a sweaty, save yourself the $29.

some fights need different mechs and its a big part of the game trying different specs to see what works vs different bosses.

      • +1

Yeah, he's describing the Sulla fight and the weapon you use to melt Sulla you see for the first time .. on Sulla's arm in his intro cutscene.

Sulla melts you instantly, you die, so then go off and buy two copies of his gun, pop them on your arms and then you melt him the next time you meet him.

It's a mini boss to gate people who haven't experimented with switching their builds around.

    • I thought this as well, until I googled the builds to cheese the game. There was a build with two shotguns, Zimmerman I think the name was. I ended up completing the game not long after. The key was to get as close to the enemy, spam shoot the shotgun and then the rockets, and every boss is pretty much almost dead.

    • Which one is this? I only did first playthrough but I don't remember a boss without an immediate retry option.

    • +3

There are tough fights but you're not meant to bang your head against the wall, you're meant to experiment with different builds. The game literally lets you refund your purchases with no consequences because you're meant try out different weapons, armour etc. If you approach this like Dark Souls that's on you, it's Armored Core.

Also I have no clue where you got the 45 mins run from, all the bosses give you checkpoints.

This is an all time great game, don't let this misleading info dissuade if someone is interested in this game.

There's no save point between Sulla and Balteus and it took me 5 days trying to even get to Balteus once (with a range of different builds) and I actually only got through Sulla once. Then, after getting flayed by Balteus for like 3 hrs straight I quit to come back to it the next day to find I had to start the whole thing again. That's when I tossed the game out because it wasn't fun.

You Fromsoft fans are all the same though, always with the smug lectures. This is a really unforgiving game with no difficulty slider by design, and people should know what they're getting into.

        • When did you play? Balteus used to be insane and almost made me quit the game, but he got nerfed soon after release and is pretty doable now.

I'll share a video link to the Sulla boss fight that IPYF mentioned. https://youtu.be/Dr3fvlDZohs?si=PGIuUJjWdPbhPI3k (the video is 2 mins) you can judge it for yourself. I remember it was not easy but also didn't feel exceedingly hard? Probably just got lucky with the build.

IMO it's not an easy game but it's no where near as hard as souls games. But everyone has different tolerances and tastes…

    • And this is why $29 is the buy price for me, because I think it's worth a try but I am still a bit dubious. Cex is offering $24 for a trade it so I'm not losing much if it doesn't gell with me.

Cheapest this has been on PC is $46.17, making this an outrageously good price IMO.

Amazing game. The rail cannon sequence is still one of my favourite gaming moments of this gen.

  • +3

Pre Owned is $23 at EB, too.

  • Anyone know if the experience is better on PS5 or PC ?

    • It the same and cheapest ever on PC was $46.17, so PS5 automatically wins!
