  • This uses the Realtek rtl8822bu chipset (Wifi 5) & should be compatible with modern linux & windows out of the box.

I just bought one with a rtl8851BU chipset (Wifi 6) & will see if linux likes it.

  • Will this be an upgrade to my standard issue Dell work laptop? Will it even work? Assuming it’s locked down and no ability to install new drivers

    • +1

What model do you have? Without knowing, I think you're fine. If you're using something like a 5320, I'd be asking for an upgrade etc

These are pretty shit to be honest. Good if you're in a bind but pretty poor speeds for 24/7 use

    • +1

I disagree, have used this for the last 3 years with absolutely no issues. Same speeds as my Ethernet connection 100mpbs, may be due to the fact your router is not close by?

    • +2

The antennas on these are pretty much non-existent. Its only good if the router is fairly close by and no interreference.

  • Are these USB better than using PCI slot?

    • no but it's prob cheaper and obv if you don't have a pci slot it may be your best option

as above if you are near a router they can be ok, not much good it your wifi signal is not strong

  • Not showing as $10 for me. Starting from 45
