  • from what i'm reading you shouldn't take out home and contents (combined). just home or just contents. also seems to be no restriction on taking out separate home and separate contents only to earn 30k points twice for home policies.

    • Receive a 10% discount for combining Building and Contents covers on the same policy

  • Wow car insurance quote is 3 times more than Woolworths for me

    • Yes, might as well buy the points directly from Velocity considering how much the policy will cost.

  • Literally twice the premium compared to my current provider RACQ - thanks but no thanks.
If QBE turns out to be the cheapest option for you though, good deal!

    • Yep, double what I'm currently paying to Allianz.
      Expensive points!

If you don't go through the velocity promo, it's cheaper but still not cheap enough.

    • Yep, not worth the bonus points at all. You're essentially paying directly for the points. Might as well buy points directly from Velocity…

  • I am all for points but Qantas gives you 200k points lol. Not a deal.

    • that's for a home loan, very different

      • They recently did 50k points for car and home insurance. Anything less than that is not worth it.

        • The Qantas Insurance offers are always 'up to X points' because it depends on how much you spend. With QBE it's a fixed bonus which can actually be a lot better if you have cheap premiums.

        • Yeah to get that 50k your annual premium needs to be over $2k. It's not a flat bonus

          • @lawyerz: For two months tho?

            • @unhuman: yeah that's true - i guess you could take the hit for 2 months.

  • I'm going to play devils advocate here.. I'm not that interested in moving insurers but did a quick quote for contents only… came up around $20 p/month.

The T&C's state that QBE Contents Insurance is eligible, and the points will land in 90 days
"for the Acquisition Sign-Up Velocity Points offer (as defined at item 8 below), the Member must hold the Eligible Insurance Product for at least 90 days and make at least 1 premium payment in full under that insurance policy for the Eligible Insurance Product;"

So technically I'd be forking out 3-4 months of cover which is $60-$80 for 30k Velocity points.. in my opinion that's a good return!
I did something similar when Coles had the Pet Insurance Flybuys offer just to get the points some years ago.

Or have i got something wrong here?

    • Interesting. I can't get mine under $50 per month lol. For $20 per month that's a great deal!

    • Edit: oh no you are right, it is 30k for Contents policy!

      • Also 30k for landlords contents I think

    • yep nice one. contents only policy for those just wanting a good deal on points!

    • $20 per month!!! How did you manage that!

    • Did you already sign up? How was the process?

    • The contents insurance is very reasonably priced unlike the car insurance. I signed up to QBE contents insurance and I'm paying roughly the same rate as what I did with Qantas Insurance, but in addition will receive 30K Velocity points.

  • Got myself the lowest level of landlord insurance. Just about $30 a month. So $90 for 30k velocity points. Not bad. Looks like you need to call to cancel, they don't seem to have a customer portal for managing insurance…

  • I've never had contents insurance before. Just wanted to check if there's any downsides to signing up to get the points and then cancelling? Like does it affect credit scores or anything like that?

    • dosn't affect your credit score. the only obvious downside is paying the premium.

  • What's stopping me signing up myself for contents. Then my wife signs up separately on hers, for the same house?

    • they might not honor it if its the same address. but why not? give it a go…

  • anyone know if it's only for new customer?
I have an existing insurance with them.
I wonder if I need to cancel and reapply with them to be (still) eligible for the sign up bonus points?

    • Yes you need to 'sign-up' to a new policy. Though it's not limited to new customers only. So in theory you could cancel and reapply to get the points.

    • did you cancel and reapply and got the bonus points?

  • Contents only insurance seems like the way to go

Note the regular link gives you 10% off and zero mention of velocity pts so there's def some trade off there

Quoted $277 regular link and $308 velocity link for contents

I'd happily pay that difference for the 30k pts but that 10% is from a $300 base. If you had a big insurance quote I'd imagine 10% becomes bigger too

  • Literally more than 2 times bingle for third party. :/

    • Still bought both contents and comprehensive. 30k x 2 points in 90 days then pro rata refund aint bad. Without the points not a good deal but not too shabby with them. Will prob stick contents its not bad deal.

  • Can I buy two car insurance policies and grab 30k points for both?

    • yes

  • Does anyone know how much is the fee if QBE car insurance is cancelled early?

    • typically a pro-rata refund for cancellations. check t's and c's.

      • T&Cs are not clear: "If you’ve paid your premium in advance and your Policy is cancelled, we’ll refund you the proportion of the premium for the remaining period of insurance, less any non-refundable government fees, duties or charges."

        • yepp, pro-rata refund

          • @BadDebt: Do they retain any portion of the initial annual premium paid (e.g. GST/Stamp duty)?

            • @tigerjie: Yes, they retain premium for 'time on risk'… GST and stamps are also calculated pro-rata for time on risk.

    • You can also keep it simple and pay monthly…

  • Wow, car insurance quote is like twice what I'm paying at the moment. Certainty not worth the bonus points. Sometime bonus points are worth it, but this isn't the case at all…

  • OP actually deal expires 28/02/2026

  • has anyone signed up to home and contents separately and received 2 sets of 30k points?

    • doubt it. deal was posted on 11 Dec. that was 64 days ago. t&cs say points will come within 95 days from start date. but not before 90 days as you need to hold for 90 days.

    • I signed up on 19/11.. will chase them closer if points are not credited.

  • I got a home insurance quote from the main QBE page and another quote from the above Velocity QBE subpage. The Velocity quote was around 12% more expensive than the quote from the main page - I suspect may be due to a 10% online discount being applied to the main page quote but not the Velocity quote.
FYI - QBE is the best Choice rated VIC home insurance provider.

  • Signed up to 2x insurance policy. Not bad $125 for 60k points. I’m getting “points pending” on my velocity account. Does anyone know how long until the points drop?

    • Where are they showing as 'pending' in Velocity.. I checked my history I can't see anything there.
In transaction history? dated as 'pending' on the day you took out the policy.. or somewhere else?

      • It’s showing in velocity “my activities”. Pending on the date I took out the policy, but says processed by velocity a couple of days after I took out th policy.

        • Interesting.. it didn't appear in mine.

But the points landed in my Velocity account today!

          • @ezza: Is that touch out of 90 days?

            • @a1234my: I signed up on 19 Nov.

            • @a1234my: Have one shown in velocity as - and another shown as 0 .
              Not 90days yet.

          • @ezza: Did you get any tracking in velocity account before the 90 day mark? Took out on Thu, still nothing in my account.

      • Applied in 6th Feb. Got qbe velocity pending with 0 points today in velocity activity. How long to receive points?

        • circa 90 days from sign up (assuming you meet all requirements)

  • Signed up November 20 and got my points overnight. Now to call and cancel my policy lol

    • So right on 90 days?

      • Yep. Also managed to cancel via email and it was processed the same day.

        • I just got points for my car and small business insurance. But, it's very hard to call them…long queue….Did QBE cancel policy via email?

  • Promotion has been extended to 30/6/2026.

  • Can I buy contents insurance for my home and my investment property? So I get 2 sets of points?$20-30 x2 pm for 60k points is a good deal!

    • yes

  • Anyone else going to cancel and reapply?

    • Why cancel reapply?

      • To get the bonus again? esp for the contents insurance.

    • +1 Has anyone cancelled their insurance after receiving points and reapplied for another 30,000 points?

      • have you done this?
ive cancelled today, they will refund via bank cheque. going to re-apply

        • you got the point? before you cancel ?

          • @a1234my: received 30k+30k points today

rejoined but this time not showing pending in my velocity account

  • Quoted 32% more than what I’m paying with ING

    • I think the key is not keeping the policy for the full 12 months.

  • Got two quotes for Home & Contents from QBE. One with the promo code 10HOME19 and the other with the promo code VFFLAUNCHPOINTS. The one with the 30,000 Velocity Points came up $250.00 more than the other one. Are 30,000 Velocity Points worth $250.00?

    • Depends how you use the Velocity points. $250 for 30,000 points equates to 0.83 cents per point (assuming you keep the policy for a full year). Most people who use Velocity points wisely would value them at least 1 cent per point. So it's a winning strategy.

      • I'm thinking of cancelling the policy after I've received the 30,000 points (~95 days). I am hoping this would make the deal a bit better.

        • That would make it roughly 75% better.

  • Thanks - purchased Home Contents policy for $31 a month. Bumped the excess up to $5k.
    Will cancel after 3 months.
30k VFF for $93 is a excellent deal!

  • Can one Velocity account receive 60,000 points (two cars or car + home insurance)?

  • Received 60k points (30k + 30k for separate home and content insurances).
Now will cancel both and re-purchase the insurances again for another set of points.

    • Will you be using a different VFF account (partner's, parent's)?

      • I joined again with the same VFF. The T&C does not specify any restrictions, only mentions New Insurance Policy. So, worth a shot.

    • Did you get the "pending" in velocity like last time for the new one? Person above said they didnt so not tracking.

      • got the pending entry the day after. so all good

        • Thats great! Just so I mimic yours. Did you cancel today, and sign up tomorrow? or cancelled and signed up same day?

Im just on hold with them on phone atm, may they take forever.

          • @starburstyellow: I cancelled via online chat, refund confirmed via cheque. Then signed up again afterwards immediately.

            • @gembel: Wow big brain move with the signing up straight afterwards. Finally got through via calling.
Previously I did both separately, I'm debating if I should be cautions and just doing it combined instead. I know its more exp, but tad worried. I'm assuming you did both separately again, home and contents separate?

Did manage to get some information for others. Cancellation via email can be done via these 2 addresses, goes to same place apparently:

              directcustomerservice@qbe.com
              Enquiries@qbe.com

              • @starburstyellow: Did they have to ask for a bunch of details to validate/identify you via email? Or they just did it based on email address?

                • @tonyhklo: Tbh I cancelled via calling. I listed the above contacts (to help others) in case someone wants to do it via email.

    • Do you mind sharing the purchase date? Assuming end of January?
I bought 18/Feb haven't received anything yet, pending still shows 0

      • I can share mine. Bought 13/2 got the bonus on 14/5.

      • did u receive urs? I bought on 18th Feb as well but nothing yet

        • i received mine on 19th May

  • Cheapest I can get is $47/month for contents only, $25k insured (lowest possible) and $5k premium (highest possible). How have others got cheaper?

    • $35/m for content and $16/m for landlord.

    • Same, $45/mo is the lowest I could get. Do they even need proof of address or proof that you are a landlord? I think it depends on the location.
