Fetch Mighty 4 (M681T) $276 (Was $396) Delivered @ Telstra (Telstra ID Required)

130

Be aware "Fetch TV has a one-off $5 activation fee and an ongoing $3.99 per month Fetch Access Fee"

This is a retail box. Can be used with any internet provider. (According to Telstra).

Seems like a pretty good deal for the Gen 4. Considering the refurbished Gen 3's go for $200 and haven't been available for a while.

The only annoying thing when buying online is that you are forced to sign up to My Telstra, which requires ID verification (Licence or Passport). Only way to avoid this is to buy in store.

Be careful as Fetch has raised its fees recently.

'Fetch TV has a one-off $5 activation fee and an ongoing $3.99 per month Fetch Access Fee'

Just looked up that $4/mth fetch access fee and it sounds quite scummy. Seems to be all features that used to be standard are now paywalled. Did existing customers have to start paying that fee for stuff they had already been using for free for years?

      • +1

Does this new $3.99 p/m fee apply to existing Fetch customers?

This fee applies only to new Fetch subscribers who join from 5 November 2025.

The Fetch Access fee is currently waived until 31 December 2025, so new customers can enjoy Fetch without paying the monthly fee during this period. Existing retail subscribers will continue to have access to Fetch and can add Premium Channel Packs or Movie Box on a month-to-month basi

        • Edit: Found it, FAQs -> Before You Get Fetch -> Fetch Access Subscription -> Q3
But it does disagree with itself, it says the fee is waived till 31/12/25 yet on the main page the small print says 2026.

I can't find that mention of existing customers. Which page is it on?
          All I see is this…
"The Fetch Access fee of $3.99 per month applies per active account and is currently waived until 31 December 2026"
At the very bottom of this page…

      • Seems to now include Movie Box. But no more free tier.

    • +2

I did not know this.. when did they sneak the monthly fee in? The only good thing going for retail Fetch was the no ongoing fees for the base features. I will have to reconsider now..

I agree with the others in the thread that Telstra are going to push it as far as they can and just dump it when customers drop off.

      • The new fee is only for new customers. Existing customers prior to when this came into effect aren't affected.

        • +1

What if you are an existing customer but buy a new Fetch box?

          • +1

@CL123: The fee does not apply.

See my post below with a response on this from Fetch Support.

@URippa: I read your below post @URippa so thank you for posting all that great, confirmation info and for your message to alert me to it. Much appreciated. 🤗

        • I will be a new customer. Yeah but who knows how long that will last..

  • +3

What is the point of fetch?

    • +11

I keep asking my blue heeler the same thing.

  • +2

Didn’t Telstra buy fetch recently? They already own half of the competitor Foxtel so I wonder if they are gimping fetch

    • Will be annoyed if existing Fetch customers get shafted by Telstra as well next year, they've already upped the cost of Movie Box.

    • Most likely, they will raise the price and then say noone is buying, and use that to shut it down
      Common Telstra tactic

Also, no idea why anyone would buy Fetch, so many other options out there

      • +2

What are the other options for a PVR?
Foxtel and Panasonic are the only other two players in the market.

Yes some set top boxes record, but they don't do the best job. Recording on your TV requires you not to be using it at the time and is bad for series recording.

Not with the Panasonic models in my experience. They allow viewing if f.t.a. TI can lV channels while recording from a different channel. I can no longer do this as I lost everything I owned (except my undies and t-shirt) in a totally devastating house fire last year. I had both a Panasonic DVD/PVR and a Blu-ray/PVR unit. I believe still available at JB Hi-Fi for the Blu-ray/DVR. They both worked well although they bugged me by not having a disk eject button on the remote control and none of the built-in app worked after about 12 months due to no support by Panasonic.

    • Didn't Foxtel get sold?

  • What's the point of fetch TV? What do you get that you can't on other platforms?

    • +1

      Its a PVR.

      • requiring subscription

  • +8

Retail on these is $599 and accept the one off $5 'activation fee' but to now expect you to pay a $3.99 pm Fetch 'access fee" is a joke and a rip off. I understand paying a subscription if you want extra 'channels' but having to pay just to access streaming apps or catch up is, IMO, deplorable. 👎👎👎👎👎

  • +3

I have one (a couple years old now) that I use purely as a PVR for FTA TV… works really well for that, given the dual tuners and 4K recording.

Thank goodness I'm an "existing" customer (exempt for now) because there's NO way I'd pay any kind of subscription fee to keep that functionality alive. Absolute joke and clearly a win/win ploy from Telstra after their Hubbl debacle… It either works and they suckle at the teat of sweet subscription revenue that failed to materialise with Hubbl… or, more likely, people abandon it and Telstra can claim it's a failed platform before shutting down the market share of another competing product in this space.

  • Can anyone explain how this $300 box is better value than an Apple TV 4K?

    • +2

It's not so much about being better value. It serves a different purpose. The main one being recording FTA TV. Before the monthly fee, it would have been a good deal.

  • +1

Does anyone know as an existing customer if I buy this and log on with my current fetch tv activation code will I need to pay subscription?

    • No.

See my post below with a response on this from Fetch Support.

  • Wait there is no more free tier.. damn… I’ve been meaning to switch from my Optus bundled fetch to retail & don’t need the channel packs; just a good PVR & app support which fetch still fits the bill for…

Are there other options out there for this?

  • I do not trust fetch from an isp, jb mentions no monthly fee, so maybe try them or fetch direct and complain if they try it on , yes it is more expensive for up front cost

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/fetch-tv-mighty-4-4k-uhd-…

    • +1

Yeah they do mention it. Always gotta read the fine print.

"Use of the Fetch box requires a $5 one-off activation fee using a valid Australian Visa or Mastercard. Minimum ongoing subscription fee required to access Fetch."

      • Good find, what a pity, hope existing customers can avoid for a while

  • +1

For existing customers who buy a new box wondering about the new monthly access fee.

    Short answer is, no fee.

Here is a response on this from Fetch Support:

Please allow us to clarify this policy for existing Fetch Retail customers who purchase a new box.

The most important information for you is:

Existing Fetch Retail accounts will continue without any charge for Fetch Access.

The new Fetch Access Fee ($3.99/month) applies only to new Fetch Retail customers.

Therefore, if you are an existing Fetch Retail customer purchasing a new box:

You will NOT be charged the new monthly Fetch Access Fee.

Your current monthly fee structure remains unchanged.

The fee structure provided in the previous email (Activation Fee, Fetch Access Fee, Multiroom Fee) applies to new customers joining Fetch Retail.

The confusion arose because the previous email gave a general pricing update for new customers, which contradicted the statement about "no ongoing fees required" (which is true if you only use the basic features and are an existing customer).

We confirm that you will not be charged the new monthly Access Fee ($3.99) for your existing retail account.

This last bit was interesting for existing customers worried about fee changes.

In the future, we may provide the option for our longstanding retail customers to choose Fetch Access as we add further content and features to it. We'll let you know when this is available to existing retail customers.

Thanks so much @URippa for confirming the confusing fee free use for existing members who buy a new box. I am glad to see a company do the right thing by those of us in that situation probably because they may have had a mutiny to deal with.
I really appreciate your efforts to find and post this info so thank you. You are a star. 🌟
