What did they say as to the reason they wouldn't?

    • I did, ordered yesterday

This was at least 6 months ago and I don’t think it was AU stock… but looking now they have this “Disclaimer: We Only Sell Australian Stocks!” so it’d be totally sweet.

when the m5 pro and m5 max then it might be worht a look.

    • Or when M6 is out ✌🏻😅😂

      • +1

you do know the pro, max and ultra versions of teh cpu are actually powerful right? so an m6 wouldn't be

        • Depends on usage TBH - if you're not heavily editing videos or images, pro and max would be overkill..

          • @b0nd: even using a capture card at 4k 60fps you need at least a pro or a max to be able to get smooth captures. This is for the streamers for example. the standard stock m cpus can't handle the load. The other thing is ray tracing and game performance the more powerful gpus gives you better games support in Mac OS.

            • @kungfuman: That's what I said, its all about the usage.. and what you want to do with it.. Gaming, editing, streaming etc etc - its all heave usage.
For most people, I would say 90-95% - the base processor works well.

@b0nd: In that case why would you get the pro version if you could then just go for the Air? Kind of defeats the purpose of being called the Macbook pro when the base model cant handle pro level demands? And i say this as someone that has a 2017 macbook pro looking to upgrade for photo/video editing. Wondering if its worth trying to get a deal on an M4 with the higher end processor than the base model M5 if that's the case?

                • @astrotrain: The M4 Air is perfectly fine for photo editing as someone that imports 10000+ 50MP photos at a time. Bought the Pro and the Air and returned the Pro as the Air was much more battery efficient for not much of a difference in performance for my use case. Base M5 should easily be able to handle photo editing and a few obvious upgrades over the Air are going to be the screen and in-built SD card slot. I don't do video though so can't speak for it.

                • @astrotrain: is the m4 pro 12/16 model better than the m5 10/10? I'm looking to upgrrade from my 2018 which seems to be trash a doing everything including web browsing..

                  • @Jayymes: This is what im wondering as well. I use the M1 max for work and it still goes strong for photos/video. My 2017 is fine with photoshop but a but slow with after effects and premiere.

Also worth checking Apple on Campus.
M5 MBP 24GB + 1TB is $2831.40. Or if you only care about RAM not storage, go with the base and upgrade RAM to 24GB then its only $2543.20. Personally I don't even fill up 512GB.
You can then pay with discounted giftcards.

    • What is the link please. I checked the Apple education site, it shows $2649 for m5 24gb 512gb

Lookup on Google using term <university name> apple on campus.

        • Do you think cashback works on this site?

Got it price matched little while ago for $2,706 at Officeworks Mulgrave.

    • +1

Just got it at that price too at this place. Absolutely chill staff… other OW I went to are unhelpful just brush you off with we don't have stock and you have to order online or call. Let them know you'll be leaving a negative feedback and walk outta there.

      • Did they allow you to order new stock and price beat?

        • +1

yeah just show them a retailer online or brick that's in Australia selling Australian stock

  • I ended up getting JB to price match with the 12/16 model @ emporium for $2,899. I prioritized a faster laptop going 12/16 with 512gb rather than a slower laptop 10/10 with more space (1tb). I always offload onto external drive anyway, so 512gb is more than enough for me.

I've been eyeing a macbook for a while so I'm surprised emporium has been showing 1 stock and the lowest price on the market for over several months.

Can you provide your receipt info as they're refusing to price match for me

      • i tried several times to price match online which didn't work, then i went into the store and got it price matched on the spot by the floor staff.

  • Does anyone have their receipt from Officeworks with the price beat. I have JB hi-fi giftcards that I'd like to use on this.
