up to 50,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles

    pretty much only 25,000

  • +4

more like spend 4k to earn 25KF miles…

    • It’s the status man. Points mean absolutely nothing. Status means everything.

      • +9

I think the status deal has been around all this while…The kicker here are the points…
and ya status is good but not much if flying J and over….

        • +4

Flying J, you don’t need status. Status is for eco and premium eco.

          • @unhuman: KrisFlyer does reserves some seats for their PPS and Solitaire PPS members on SQ flights. That means a minimum of SGD 25k spent in premium cabins though to qualify for PPS….

      • status for ? like priority boarding ?

        • +4

Lounge access, including Virgin domestic lounges!

          • -6

@Coops1: Lounge access can be had with Revolut

          • @Coops1: Lounge access is available with Priority Pass [PP], albeit 2 x free visits a year, whereas the Status would give multiple free visits to the Lounge.

Mind you, I have had 4 x PP visits one year, from 2 Credit Cards, at the same time.

            • @whyisave: Not thru Revolut in Australia

            • +1

@whyisave: Just to confirm, with the status, we can access Lounge with up to 1 guest each time for multiple times ? Eg. I am travelling from Perth to Singapore then Seoul and back. I can access the Lounge in Perth, Singapore and Seoul in the same trip (same month same year) ?

Do we have more than 1 lounge in the same airport that we can use this status with ? Basically we can move from lounge to lounge in same day, but maybe different guest ? No limit ?

              • @yht: I have had Priority Pass for about 10+ years, and I only have had experience with PP, via Citi card.
PP only gives the account holder, with name on the boarding pass, access to the lounge.
Any guest I take, I have to pay…and from memory, it is about US$ 35 (?).

The airport lounge also needs to be affiliated with PP, so you cannot just go to any airport lounge. By the way, you can download the PP App, and see which airports have the lounges, where they are located, the amenities available, etc. You don't need to log in for this information, and you can view this 'offline'.

With 1 x PP account, I had another credit card, which also gave PP access, so with 2 different PP accounts, I had a total of 4 x visits, within that year, and I used them all, while travelling.

              • @yht: Just be mindful star alliance gold plus 1
lounge benefit only applies if your friend or family is flying on the same plane.

        • +2

Yes. Krisflyer status also extends to Star Alliance partners and Virgin Australia.

        • Priority upgrades , lounge access, bonus miles, priority boarding , extra baggage and much more.

        • Use priority check in line, more check in luggage, usually priority luggage as well so you get your luggage first, lounge access, a little bit extra points as well from flights.

It makes flying way nicer. Can usually arrive later because check in is easy.

The 25k points are really not worth that much since you need quite a bit to get to Singapore from Australia on business but good for people that might be using velocity as their main points program.

      • With about 30K KF points, I can get a returned tickets to Singapore if you book early.

I was checked the flights to trace in Mar/26 back in Aug and found plenty award seats with that amount if points. Now almost double price/points to get same flights.

The following KrisFlyer members are not eligible for welcome bonus KrisFlyer miles:
    - Existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or customers who have held a HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card within the last 18 months.
    - Members who have held a HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card and received KrisFlyer Elite Gold status via ‘fast-track’ to Star Alliance Gold Status at any time previously (noting that Singapore Airlines will only issue KrisFlyer Elite Gold via ‘fast-track’to Star Alliance Gold Status once per KrisFlyer member).

    • The 18 months criteria will eliminate a lot of people

      • +1

In fact, both conditions will eliminate everyone who applied the last round…

    • Any ideas what 'transfer' means? Holding a HSBC Qantas card atm.

      • Exactly that. Convert from a comparable HSBC card to this. Even if they approved it, you won’t get the bonus points. Standard T&C with all cards promotion.

        • +1

Usual T&C usually just says not eligible if held X card over the last 18 or 24 months instead of this term 'transfer'.

I wasn't planning to switch over but apply as a new card. The very vague way I read it is if you apply as a change, you don't get it but as a new card as long as you haven't had the star alliance card in the last 18mths, and is approved, you get the bonus..

I'll ping them tmr and ask

          • @lawyerz: Interesting, I may look into do this as well.

I'm still holding to my Platnium card with plan to ultilise the 2 lounge passes later next year, but this one may serve me nicely for my travel as well.

            Let us know the outcome.

          • @lawyerz: Did you manage to find out from hsbc whether new card application applies to the promotion? I had the premier card before but cancelled it earlier this year and tempted to apply for this if the promotion applies.

            • @j1568: No I'm so sorry I've been so smashed.

            • +1

@j1568: I did checked with them and confirmed that you can have both cards (platinum/premier Vs Star Alliance) same time and get the bonus or status after meet the spending requirements.

Applied and got approved this afternoon

              • @timhn: Thanks. I was told as well that I’m eligible for first year free but need to call sales team to confirm the KrisFlyer promotion. Going to apply today and hope to fat track to gold before Christmas if possible.

  • -1

This is really not great unless your running out of cc options.

    • +5

It's getting hard to find good signup bonus options these days. Are there any other offers around?

This one actually seems pretty decent for the current market with $0 annual fee for 25,000 KrisFlyer miles with a $4,000 spend in 3 months is not bad at all.

      • Virgin Money, St. George, ANZ.

        • -2

Aren't virgin and st George both owned by NAB so presume there would be some overlap in cooldowns?

          • +2

@Ironic fear: They are separate programs with respect to the T&Cs. Timeout periods do not overlap.

            • @caperite: Oooh time for me to get onto st George and virgin shortly after then, thanks!

              • +1

@Ironic fear: St. George has an 18-month cool-off period, whereas Virgin Money are not very 'strict', because you sign up within 7-8 months after canceling them.

ANZ and Westpac have also semi-decent offers, but both have an 18-month cool-off period as well.

          • +5

@Ironic fear: St George issues their own credit cards. But they are a subsidiary of westpac. Nothing to do with NAB

        • +1

Thanks for the suggestions, wasn't looking outside the bigger banks. Just got out of ANZ Rewards Black. Got at least 1300+ before about 300 annual fee.

  • How do you maintain the gold status in the second year?

    • +5

Spend $48k in a year and pay the $500 annual fee

      • Thanks for the info.

  • +1

so once in a lifetime applicant ?

    • +3

I think if you last got status via Aeroplan promotion and your last card was closed atleast 18months ago then you should qualify.
      Aeroplan deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/802518

      • Yea that's how I read it too. The 50k Aeroplan pts + gold + $0 fees 1st year was so good.

  • I had this card for 2 years from the day it was first launched. Earn rate is alright 0.8 per $1 spent.

For a card that targets travelling, the dynamic conversion isn't that good, it just charges that for any merchant that could be processing overseas irrespective of the currency involved.

    • +4

This is something RBA should ban, it's really just a Mastercard and Visa self inflicted issue as Amex doesn't have this problem.

  • +2

Title should say up to 50k points…

    • +3

Really? No annual fee, Krisyflyer Gold and at least 25k points, what more do you expect.

      • My bad didn’t see the gold status.

    • +2

This is not a valid reason for a negative vote.

  • Title is a little misleading. Looks like the old usual offer, which it isn't.

Used be 50k points + star alliance gold (Air Canada), or gold with KF.

Now only half the points at 25k points + 5k more for a $3000 flight.

20k more for $499 in the second year.

So Star Alliance gold in 2 years, whereas it used to be upfront after making the spend.

    • +1

It's still upfront after making the spend. Hence the 18 month exclusion.

    • Agreed - however, apart from the hoops one has to jump to get there, the final perks are still the same except for the added 25k KF points?

I've been looking at getting the card, but cannot find a reason to do so with only gold status and free first year fee. But I think the points can push me over the edge.

  • Is it 50,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles + Star Alliance Gold?

  • -5

HSBC - Worst customer service, good luck getting Gold Status

    • +2

Terrible customer service. But the last time I applied for this card gold + 50k Aeroplan pts, no issues getting the gold status.

Lost it immediately when cancelled the card though.

  • +1

great timing for me! I am about to book a flight over the coming week with Singapore Airlines and normally fly Business Class but travelling with the whole family and was too expensive but needed access into KrisFlyer Lounge. Anyone got any idea how quick they turn around the Gold Status once you spend 4k?

    • +2

I applied on 22-Mar, approved on 24-Mar and received the Star Alliance Gold status on 11-Apr.

      • +1

        simply lovely!

      • Yes, HSBC approval is pretty seamless now a day.

Got approved recently (not this one) within 1 business day after submitted payslips. Card received 3 days later.

      • did you hit the spend target before gold status was awarded? Is that a requirement?

        • Yes I did and just a few days later I received the email saying I have achieved Star Alliance Gold status.

          • @enricos85: When did your status change on SQ website showing you have KrisFlyer Gold ?

            • +1

@HardQuiz: I received the Star Alliance Gold Status email on 11-Apr and received the Krisflyer Gold Status email on 25-Apr so about 2 weeks.

    • +1

There is no krisflyer lounge, it is silverkris.

When you are not flying J in Singapore, you can only access to Krisgold lounge, which is shitter and smaller

      • +1

For Sydney airport, you can also access the Air NZ lounge which I heard better equip than the SilverKris

  • +2

Looks like there could be a lifetime limit on getting the fast track gold status:

Your status will be granted until the first anniversary of your account opening or earlier, if you qualify for a higher status with your selected Frequent Flyer Program by any means. You may not be able to receive Star Alliance Gold status with a participating Frequent Flyer Program if you already hold, by any means, an equivalent or higher status with that Program or have been previously granted KrisFlyer Elite Gold status via the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card (“fast track to Gold Status”) welcome offer (more information available on the Star Alliance Rewards Terms and Conditions at www.staralliance.com/en/web/rewards/au/tncwww.staralliance.c…).

    • Apply and be approved for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card between 17 November 2025 to 28 December 2025

  • If you are a person who travel in December do not apply this card now.. As the renewal period just falls during the December Travel window (if you decide to keep the card). It takes a max of 28 days for the date you reach the eligibility to the date the airline confirms the status for you.

    • +3

      December travel window?

    • I'm not following what you just said, can you please elaborate? I'm about to apply for this card and travelling towards the end of December.

    • Thanks for the heads up, sounds like it's best to apply in Oct for Dec travel?

  • 500 annual fee?! who would renew?

  • Where is this promotion I'm struggling to actually see it on the website. Edit: found it on Krisflyer website.

I was considering getting this card anyway so a a decent enough perk.

    • Can you link I can’t find it. I’m only seeing a promo without the extra points.

      update:
nvm, had to use the PC. won't show on mobile

      • I can't see the points either. Can you share the link please?

  • +2

    Also to note

If you've previously elected to fast track gold with Singapore Airlines with this card they won't allow you to do it again, it'll need to be with one of the other options

    • so to confirm If previously took the HSBC Star Alliance offer back in Nov 2023 and selected Aeroplan as my status airline (and received Aeroplan 50K / Star Alliance Gold), am I still eligible for fast track gold sith Singapore airlines?

      • You can't fast track the same aitline scheme twice it

        • So then this should be ok?

  • I'm flying to Europe on United Airlines and Virgin, economy plus points. Will gold status give me lounge access?

    • +2

      Yes

  • I feel like the 2 years of air canada gold is still the best deal.

    • Tough one although have to pay annual fee either way.

    • Is that confirmed effective? Given as soon as you cancel the card you lose status, could Air Canada not downgrade you as soon as HSBC has assessed your spend for the year prior?

      • I lost my AC status shortly after cancelling

  • +1

Do I need to spend $48000 each year to retain star alliance gold?

  • -4

Just note with Krisflyer with Aeroplan your gold last less than 1 year if you don't meet the following year spend.

Also if your flying economy on Singapore Airlines in Singapore you only get access to the KrisGold lounge. You do not get access to the business class lounge KrisSilver in Singapore. The only benefit compared to other star alliance members is you get free wifi on the plane. This can be easily sorted by entering your krisflyer membership onboard.

Most people will cancel the card before the next year so l don't see the point in highlighting Aeroplan 2 years.

A side note the status only really works if you intend to fly economy. A lot of the benefits are the same as someone fly business class or using points to fly business class. The only real difference is you can bring a friend flying on the same plane into the lounge if you have status.
