Is This a Decent Quote for Solar Panels?

Hi all,

Wanted to ask your opinion on a quote for solar panels.

• I do not have an existing system
• 2 adults and 2 children in the home
• Western Sydney

Honestly, I have not had the time to do diligent research. Absolute noob to solar energy and panels. Would appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

Thank you.

There's lots of cowboys in it for the credits and rebates, I wouldn't go with the lowest quote.

I went with Helcro, very happy.

I agree. Actually stay away from the lowest quote as it will definitely be from one of those cowboys. They give you even 15 years warranty, but in a year or two they'll be gone and your warranty will be useless. Go and check solarquotes.com.au and get at least 3 quotes.

    • interested in your experience with Helcro. They have good reviews and we are thinking of getting them to do solar/battery for a new build.

I got solar with them. They were the only business of the 4 I had quote to come out and look at the house before quoting. They had a drone to look at my roof, which was good because it's 3 storeys. Communication was good. Install was done in a day. All the post installation went smoothly.

        • Many thanks for that.👍

  • What is the summary of the quotes in text?

  • cheap price ? yeah

    would i recommend 5kw inverter ? NOPE
would i recommend no blackout protection? NOPE

Would i recommend getting only 6 kw solar panels instead of min 10 kw i recommend ? NOPE

Well, some people may only be able to fit 6kW, but also, they might be able to fit 7-8ish, so the point should be “max out your roofspace” vs “get min 10kW”

      “max out your roofspace”

yeah true or get the higher rated panels, some companies giving out 475w panels for same price. most companies give only 440w panels. remember that too

  • Depends on what brand the inverter/batteries are. I couldn't find that info in your photos

  • Worth doing your due diligence, like others have been saying, use solarquotes and read some of the material on their website. learn about inverter types and things like blackout protection if going with battery storage. Also a common thing is for the cowboys to quote a tier 1 panel, but in the fine print they will exchange for a lower quality if the tier 1 is not available ( it is never available).

  • This company is cheap junk, avoid.

Idk if that company is good. I'd preference a quality installer and take their recommendation.
But product wise, price is okay for what you are getting.
The design imho is pretty cooked though - which indicates the company is likely not the best and is just thinking about $$ and not what you need.
Inverter is way too small for that battery. That solar system will generate 30kwh per day best case scenario - but on average less - and in winter 5-10kwh, and your bat is 50kwh. So you have a severely undersized inverter for the battery. Even utilising the free period (assuming 3hrs free electricity from grid) you will only be able to get 15kwh due to your inverter size.

The installer should consider your energy consumption habits in the design. Have they done that?
Are you full electric, or are some of your energy needs met by gas? This may have a large impact.

  • Who was the company through? I am looking for similar sort of panels / inverter etc in Western Sydney … ? Price seems decent for what was quoted.
