Great Idea! Good luck with the launch

    • Many thanks 🙏

A lot of these seem like AI generated images. (Also the website text / image descriptions read as AI)

"From the Source Direct from the artists, no middleman, pure impact." But no artists are named as the source of the images for the posters I checked.

You also have posters for shows like Breaking Bad, The Matrix, Back to the future, etc.

Are these officially licensed artwork or is this something like copyright infringement?

    • +6

Yeah I would say most if not all of this is AI generated, I mean just look at the hand holding the sword in this image for example, the part behind the sword is all wrong and the hand is directly gripping the blade. And that is just one of many indicators in their images.

They actually say it but in pretty small writing on the main page

"Pixel Surge was born from a love of cinematic worlds and the emotions they stir. We create bold, high‑impact art for collectors, gamers, and dreamers who want more than decoration — they want a statement. Every piece is crafted with precision, from concept to finish, blending cutting‑edge AI artistry with a human eye for storytelling. Our collections are curated like film scenes: layered, intentional, and built to live with you for years. This is just the opening frame — step inside to see the full picture."

After writing that I find it ironic that they write just below it

"No mass-made junk. Just premium wall art, made responsibly — with bold style, real quality, and zero shortcuts. Printed locally, shipped fast, and made to fuel your space for the long haul."

I can't find where they wrote on the website the part you quoted but its pretty shady for them to write things like "direct from the artist", putting an artist initials on each image like they were created by someone and saying they are taking custom requests when its all the images just prompts from something like midjourney.

Thanks for taking the time to point all this out. I genuinely appreciate it. PixelSurge literally just launched this week, so feedback like this really helps while we are still tightening everything up.

        To clarify a few things:
Yes, AI tools are part of the process, but it’s definitely not a one-click thing. Each piece goes through multiple workflows, batch runs, and a few hours of refining before it even reaches Photoshop for the final edits.

The creativity behind the pieces is still very much human. All the concepts, references, moods and inspiration come from real-world examples like films, architecture, cars and photography. The tools just help bring those ideas to life.

The initials on each piece are simply a brand mark, not an attempt to suggest a traditional hand-drawn artist.

I understand what you mean about some of the wording on the site. I’ll adjust it so it’s clearer and more transparent about how the artwork is made.

The custom requests are real as well. The workflow I use allows me to design pieces based on what someone wants, even if AI assists along the way.

I’ll go back through the images you mentioned and fix or replace anything that doesn’t look right. Those are fair call-outs.

Thanks again for raising these points. This kind of feedback is genuinely helpful during launch week.

Oh this is way worse than I thought, @PixelSurgeRep I found your company's "human creativity" and now know the workflow you use. You grab some of the most popular art from Displate and run it through AI to alter it slightly.

This is way worse than just generating art via AI, you are taking other peoples work and modifying it slightly with AI (sometimes barely at all) so that you hopefully don't get in trouble. This is not just shady now, it's straight up scummy and I would guess also Illegal.

And to top it all off you chuck some initials on there to stamp it as your own. You say its a brand mark but how is that so? Your company name is PixelSurge and you initial all your images in handwriting font with "NM". What does NM stand for? How does it relate to your brand?

I found a few from a quick look, but as an example here is one that is not as bad as some of the others but still quite obvious

          PixelSurge vs Displate

and in case the webpage is deleted here is some screenshots on imgur

I would post the ones that are extremely similar but I will wait for now.

@PixelSurgeRep care to explain all this? Again this is beyond AI art generation.

Since you are asking for suggestions: Stop while you are not in trouble, you should not run your business like this. If for some reason you feel you need to continue in this endeavour create your own art, licence art from actual artists, or hell at worst generate a bunch of trash via AI based on your own prompts while making that very clear on your website and hope it works out, its better than straight up stealing. I feel though this is just a cash grab for you and not something you are passionate about since what you have done so far seems pretty low effort, so it might be worth quitting while you are ahead.

Mods of OzBargain I feel this user and the PixelSurge site probably should not be allowed to post deals here.

@petematmcc: Thanks for calling this out again I appreciate you taking the time. I want to be upfront and clear here.
I never upload or modify Displate images directly. All of the artwork is created using my own prompts through AI workflows, which generate unique outputs each time through seed variation.

That said, some of the early pieces were definitely too close to reference material. That’s on me, and I’ve already removed those designs and I’m reviewing the whole catalogue to make sure everything going forward is fully original and meets a proper standard.

Not here to argue, just want to fix what needs fixing and improve the whole thing. Appreciate everyone being direct.

            • +1

@PixelSurgeRep: Well I will me uprfront and clear too, I think you are lying. I think there is no way you would get that close without using the Displate images and chucking them into an AI to modify. Your own prompts would not get images so similar that they are near identical.

What you said also confuses me did you use your own prompts or did you use the Displate art as "inspiration"?

Since you have removed the webpages to the other pictures I found here is an imgur collection of what I found on your website in comparison to the Displate images https://imgur.com/a/displate-vs-pixel-surge-hucTdvE

With those images in that collection, especially the first 4, are you really going to stand by your claim that you did not use the Displate images as your start point and modify them in some form? Or are you using semantics and saying you never uploaded any Displate image directly but what you did was tell an AI to make an image very similar to the Displate image which would therefore mean no direct upload or modification?

Mr A.I is one of the most prolific artists of our time.

Yesss soulless AI slop to throw on my walls!!!!

  • +6

@PixelSurgeRep You said feedback is welcome, well here is some on the few images I have looked at:
    * As I said in my other post the hand in this image with the blade looks all messed up and is directly gripping the blade.
    * Speaking of blades, I may be wrong and its a little hard to see but in this one it seems like the blade is going through poor Ezio's hand
    * In this the cars reflection doesn't quite seem the same and maybe grew a new headlight?
    * What happened to the pandas ears here?
    * This is not a DB12, this is a DB12, what you have there looks more like a DB9.

Well I am getting a bit bored of this now, maybe some others will point out some other stuff that doesn't make sense.

Thanks for taking the time to go through the images and point these things out. I genuinely appreciate it. Feedback like this really helps me clean things up quickly.

The artwork is created using adavanced AI-assisted workflows, and you’re right that details like hands, reflections and smaller elements can sometimes slip through. I’ll go back through the specific images you mentioned and update or replace them so everything meets the quality standard we're aiming for.

Really appreciate you calling it out. This kind of feedback is genuinely helpful, especially while everything is still new. If you or anyone else notices anything else that looks off, feel free to let me know and I’ll fix it as soon as I can.
