Unlimited Usenet US$25.05 (~A$38) for 15 Months @ NewsHosting

180

NewsHosting.com have brought back their Black Friday deal at 92% off.

Comes to $1.67USD per month for 15 months for a total of $25.05USD.
Also comes with
- Unlimited Easynews Account
- Unlimited Tweaknews Account
- Privado VPN

Really good deal considering you can use the Easynews account with Stremio too. This is on the Omicron backbone so the coverage and retention are really good.

You can also stack multiple years if you wish. Just remember to cancel the renewal as it renews at full price ($71USD)

If you prefer a Newsgroup provider with local AU servers then Frugal also have a deal for $32USD per year, renews at $32USD - so you don't have to do any tricks. You can find the deal here . Keep in mind that this is on Netnews, not omicron so the coverage is different. It also comes with a bonus fill server on an undisclosed backbone.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2025

Why do people pay for Usenet when you can use torrent sites for free?

    • +1

Better for specific things I think

    • +11

You don't have to rely on seeds, you can typically max out a connection without any issues, you don't need to be behind a VPN (SSL), you can find a lot of older stuff that's no longer seeded, a lot less attention from DMCA enforcement

    • +7

Why do people tolerate torrents which can be left abandoned for 10 years when you can pay for usenet and not have to deal with slow arse torrents?

      • +1

these days a lot of private tracker content is immediately added to usenet.

so some years later, if it is poorly seeded, people can re-seed from usenet. or grab direct from usenet.. either way they work side by side now.

        • people can reseed from usenet but if you don't have access, you're relying on someone else deciding to reseed the thing you want the week you want it …

          • @sssx: there is a re-seed button which will send messages to people who have previously seeded that someone is wanting it

there are also torrent threads where ppl can request re-seeding. in those cases, someone with usenet can get it from there if that's the only place that has it.

but yeah. some choose only torrents, but I find both is best.

    • +1

      some use both.

      • +4

Both is the right answer imo. There's no need for tribalism, whatever works for you is the solution.

    • Reliability. I can find most of the things I'm looking for on Usenet without issues (some rare stuff might be hard, and the occasional random episode of a popular series that's been fully DMCA'd). Then torrents are a little give and take, some torrents are easy to find on public trackers, but then there's the few that you'll find and they take days to download due to lack of seeders (if they download at all).

For $35 per year, I'd rather paying that over $300+ Disney+, $300+ Netflix, $300+ HBO Max and whatever other sources are around. It's really a no brainer.

  • Switched from Frugal to NewHosting this BF and managed to complete a few series that I had outstanding. Been pretty impressed with it so far.

  • any good indexer deals this BF\CM?

    • Yep. Though a few of them have finished up now I believe. Not to sure if you've seen this list on reddit which includes all the index deals. https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/1p3ajl6/black_frida…

      • +1

I grabbed altHUB lifetime which seems good so far (first time using) and NinjaCentral lifetime which for me and the price of it has been a big miss so far.

        • +1

I picked up altHUB for $20 but ninja seemed overpriced so I only got 2 years. I'll check in on NZBHydra stats in a couple of months and let a few expire as I've got a horde of indexers now.
IMO you can get 90% of stuff just from geek

          • @skynet: Agreed, I just started playing with Hydra a few days back and noticed for what I do only got 1 or 2 hits from Ninja. As you say Geek is great and grabbed the 5 year deal last year. Been running well with abnzb. Though did grab DS again this year to test them all out.

            • @fsfwerefdgfgh: abnzb are the quiet achievers - noone ever talks about them but they are fantastic. I only have free DS so always hit API limits but I've heard they're also very good.

  • Doss anyone know whether the included Easynews plan includes the web interface?

    • It does

    • Yep, it's the full easy news account. Web search included.

  • +1

Any benefit over a Debrid account?

    • Different approaches for the same thing. Debrid works well when it's cached or a well seeded file, not so well when it's older or more niche (unless you have private trackers, in which case do not use debrid because you'll get banned).

Debrid works out cheaper overall because you can just grab RD or TB. Usenet (imo) has a larger variety for stuff for me as I don't have any private trackers.

      • Mind giving examples of the kinda stuff usenet is better for?

  • +1

I got this and the easynews stremio add-on is legit. Works well. Slightly longer delay than torbox when starting but it has plenty of content and streams perfectly once started.

    • So you don't get buffering once it starts? I've tried Real Debrid and it stops to buffer every 3 mins on a 500Mbps connection.

      • +1

There's something not quite right going on there. I've used it via a 5G tether to a Samsung TV running Stremio via the Tizen OS with RD without too much issue. Whenever there's been any connection trouble it's because there was an issue with RD servers, Torrentio, or the Stremio app and or the OS needed a cache clean/restart. You should be humming along with 500Mbps.

        • I went ahead and signed up last night and the experience with Easynews is pretty good. It takes a while to buffer at the start but then y there were no pauses.

  • -1

This can be used with Streamio instead of Real Debrid?

EDIT**: Read OP: Easynews can be used with Streamio.

Is easy news different from the likes of althub and nzbgeek?

    • Yeah, I believe easynews search is it's own solution separate from other indexers. A quick test shows they're pretty good for popular content

  • +1

USD price in the title without that designation???

    update please

  • I don't get it, I thought lots of people were saying ninja central is great so I got lifetime and now reading on here..people are saying it's very ordinary?

    • I can't comment on performance because I've only had it for 2 days but my issue was that lifetime seemed very expensive.

It might be great, I won't know for a couple of weeks.

Geek, Ninja and DS are the 3 most recommended.

    • It’s my top indexer by a long way, have lifetime for it as well as nzbgeek and althub, all same priority, and in last 30 days it has grabbed 2.5 times as much as althub and 4x as much as nzbgeek.

Will depend on what you’re getting of course.

    • +1

the problem with 'great' is its in the eye of the beholder, for the Gen X content i seek indexer X has large population of like minded fans that upload a comparatively tiny amount, but its the right stuff.

whereas indexer Y has huge 10x the number of Gen X stuff but find sadly 99/100 have almost every article missing (probably popular for take downs due to high missing)

So great really means your personal likes, and low profile not really grand big and bold

  • Can't seem to sign up. Enter all the details, including payment details and but payment button does nothing.

  • +1

Can anyone please tell me how this works? Stremio and RD works well now. Do I need a separate indexer to find content and configured with stremio?

    • No, just install the EN+ plugin either separately or via aio and enter the EN details. It'll work without any indexers

  • Recommended add-on to use this with Stremio?

    • Aiostreams

      • Thanks. Im currently using aiostreams for debrid. In particular, which addon from the marketplace…easynews, or easynews+ or ++, or.. ?

        • I personally use easynews+ from aio and it works well. Remember to enter your credentials in the first tab too

          • @skynet: Cheers

          • @skynet: News hosting and eweka now offer integrated search but you have to install their exe client packages

Easy news search seems fairly limited results but functional

  • New to UseNet. Just got Frugal and Geeknzb. Can't seem to find courses on geeknzb. Will I achieve different results if I get this Newshosting deal?

    • +1

What do you mean by find though
You found the nzb but downloading in nzbget/sab you get messages of missing articles?
News hosting eweka or blocknews might help with that

If you mean nzbgeek doesnt have the nzb at all you'll need to expand search to other larger indexers nzb su and usenet crawler nzbplanet althub etc
most except the geek often allow search and 1-2 free downloads per day

    • +1

Great combo. Especially if you're going to use NZBDav. That way you don't even need to download your media. Frugal has an aussie server and makes streaming extremely fast.

  • What speed are you getting with NewsHosting?

I used to have 600Mbit/s sharp with Thundernews in SABnzbd - the graph was a bar with flat top. The max number of connections is 60.

But something is different now…. Maybe recent power outage changed something… The speed is floating between 300MBit/s and 500MBit/s all the time… closer to 300MBit/s…

With NewsHosting the speed is even lower - it is floating between 250MBit/s and 300MBit/s despite max number of connections 100.

HCF Ultrafast, everything is wired in case you ask. :)

    • Something is wrong here. I get 95MB/s with frugal (Aus server) and 85MB/s with news hosting (us server). Using 150 and 100 connections respectively.

Can you try their US and EU servers seperately and see if it makes a difference

      Also, which ISP?

      • +1

First of all, thanks for checking it for me.

        ISP: More Telecom.

My hardware might be a limiting factor (SABnzbd is in a container in an old x86 QNAP) but I saw stable 60MB/s from Thundernews US before with exactly the same setup (60 connections).

EU server: the speed goes up to 30MB/s and stays like this.
US server: the speed actually goes above 70MB/s but after about 30 seconds drops down to ~30MB/s and stays like this till the end.

Actually, I think I might be saturating my RAID I/O since my CPU is not too powerful. I am still puzzled why it used to go up to stable 60MB/s (60 connections) before but not able to do it now (approaching disk failure? :) ).
Anyway, it looks like my hardware limitations.

Thanks again for letting me know what speed is achievable with US server.
Will test again later with more powerful hardware.

        • +1

Ah I see. Well, if you wanted to test this install sab or nzbget on your PC or Laptop and give it a go. If you get the full speed via ethernet you'll know it's your NAS CPU

  • is 'Cancel Account' same as cancelling the renewal or actually closing your account?

    • +2

      Cancelling just cancels the renewal.
