Are these pretty compact? I have a very old 8 port and looking to upgrade.
They are for sure much bigger than the old 8 port ones but smaller than a full rack mount switch. So somewhat compact.

Just dont print this with PLA, it will deform after a while. PETG at a minimum, ABS probably best.

Combination of 2.5GbE PoE++ and 10G SFP+ probably not matched in a $400 Netgear
Depending on your connectivity needs this might be a nicely balanced option.
@semaj: If you are willing to go non-UniFi and don't mind getting 2 switches, you can get a 2.5Gbps PoE+ managed switch and a 8 port 10Gbps managed switch (with L3 management features) with some money to spare.
Once you take away 1 SFP+ for upstream, you are left with only 1 10Gbps SFP+ port. Then, you have 4 x 2.5Gbps ports, which 2 of them are probably going to be used for access points and probably too many gigabit ethernet ports.
Here's my use case for staying within the Ubiquiti ecosystem:
TL;DR: It's to do with centralized VLAN configuration (rather than disparate configs)
Scenario 1:
- my NBN router = ubiquiti gateway UCG-MAX.
- my switch = HP procurve switch
I want VLAN-ABC.
That means I have to set up VLAN-ABC in two places:
- place 1: on the UCG-MAX
- place 2: on the HP procurve switch
This will be very annoying.
Scenario 2:
- my NBN router = ubiquiti gateway UCG-MAX.
- my switch = ubiquiti poe
I only have to create VLAN-ABC in one central place (on the Unifi Network Server that is seen by both unifi router + unifi switch).
Man, I wouldn't never have imagined that VTP was a selling point, but I guess prosumer stuff just doesn't get given the base level toys enterprise gear has had for 30+ years.
VTP is Cisco proprietary. It's not supported by HP nor Ubiquiti.

And if the magical feature you are buying ubiquity gear for is vlan propagation I can only sigh at prosumer gear. Like, fantastic that this product has it, don't get me wrong, but makes me so depressed that such a basic tier feature is even a question.
Just bought a UCG-Fiber. Got 3 x APs & 3 x Protect cameras. Was going to pair it with Flex 2.5G PoE but that doesn't even come with a freaking (expensive) power adaptor which has to be purchased separately?! Would I be better getting this UniFi Pro Max 16-Port PoE++ switch? :o
Is 4 x 2.5 Gbps ports enough for you? The extra adapter cost for the flex PoE switch is annoying (expensive). Some people decided to use cheap alternative adapter on AliExpress. This thing costs more than UCG-Fiber.
I use a mixture of UniFi and non-UniFi switches. I bought some cheap PoE switches on clearance (8 port managed PoE Gigabit switch for $50, 8 port 2.5Gbps managed switch PoE switch for $105). However, you need to be comfortable with manually configuring those switches, otherwise you might be better off getting unmanaged switches. I went to managed switches because I use VLANs. Using this approach does mess up the network diagram shown on the UI.
There is a cheap 5 port PoE managed switch at the moment. If you are thinking about going with 3rd party, maybe try it out first, see if you can accept that approach.

One big advantage of Unifi Pro Max is that it has 16 ports, so if you have lots of gigabit ethernet devices, it could be quite handy and avoid having so many 5 or 8 port switches.
I am at the same boat but i already put an order in and waiting for delivery. Along with the power adapter. I read it online where if you want to power your equipment via poe will need power adapter as sometime it cut off the connection due to overdraw. This offer does sounds like a better options especially with layer 3? Flex only layer 2 so need router/advanced switch to route. I got 8 ports flex plus adapter at $528.

Works perfectly, for months now - on the Flex 2.5G PoE, at around 10% of the Unifi retail.
I purchased this TP-Link Omada PoE++ Injector to power my Flex 2.5G Poe, works great. Cost ~ $72 shipped and is enough POE power for my needs.
Personally I would skip this item as it's mostly 1 GbE only and for the price and put it towards the more expensive Pro XG POE range.

Yea id much prefer the 24 port with better number of 2.5g and poe++ on every port
but at this price it costs less to get 2x 16 models and just link them with SFP cables.

@Gebb: Since when do OZBers buy stuff at RRP? Anyway, no point replying to me on this. I have zero interest getting UniFi switches which have all or mostly gigabit LAN ports. Even this one, with just 4 x 2.5Gbps. It's mostly FOMO. Should really aim for a proper 10Gbps switch nowadays.

Does anyone know if these things can do layer 3 routing between vlans? As in, if this was connected to a dream machine (and everything else is Unifi ecosystem), can these be set up to do inter-vlan routing on the switch instead of forwarding all packets to the dream machine CPU and saturating the link?
The listing says “layer 3 features” but it’s not uncommon to see that description used for switches that have minimal feature sets that don’t include packet routing

Yep, ages ago. When I first saw the sale I think the delivery late was late December, but I still purchased given the price was so good. A day or so later I checked the sale page again and it said delivery within two days so I cancelled the first order and re-purchased. Had it delivered in two days. That's just how amazon works.
Lot of switch for that price. I picked one up about 6 months ago do Computer Alliance for $780 so this price is a good deal. I’m very impressed with mine, but defiantly a pro-sumer bit of kit.
