Feeling Cheated by JB Hi-Fi

Bought a pixel watch 3 45mm almost 5 months ago. After recent update it started playing up. Freezing, Disconnections from phone, Sleep not recording correctly. I tried resetting it twice, but it didn't help. Returned it to the local store.
I bought it for $424 and they refunded me $131. Shouldn't I get a full refund on this item as it turned faulty for no fault of mine?

Their support is impossible to reach. Got in that live chat for an hour yesterday, disconnected and kicked out of chat session without even getting to any support person. Re-initiating chat puts you all the way back in the queue again. Today again being in the chat window for almost an hour now, it's now stuck at Queue position 32, eta 1 minute for last 20 mins of so. I guess it's again messed up, but don't want to refresh the page and go back to the end of the queue again.

Is there any other way to reach their support? Calling 135244 connects to sales team. No option to choose to connect to support. And these wait times. It's like quite denial of support.
Never expected this experience from JB.

Returned it to the local store. I bought it for $424 and they refunded me $131.

Why did you accept this and walk out the store? Of course entitled to full refund, based on the info you have provided. Go back to the store.

      This
Trade in price of $131 instead of return (do they even do that?)? Weird

      • +11

If the original payment was part bank card and part gift card, you would have received the refund the same way. Didn't they give you a gift card? What does the receipt say?

          • +22

@Consumer123: Did you originally pay $131 with a bank card and the rest with a gift card?

That would be the only logical explanation. If that's the case, your gift card is lost somewhere. Only the receipt you have will tell.

          • +11

@Consumer123: For your sake, ask mods to close this thread lol

          • +1

@Consumer123: Doesn't this imply you'll get that remaining refund within ten days then? Which has not yet passed?

            So why are you here?

      • +18

You missed the gift card detail out. Sounds like ADAGCHS.

Go back to the store and get it sorted out. Online chat won't do anything for you.

        • +5

@mapax - urgent board meeting required

      • +3

Ok, so you got a refund to your original payment methods. $131 on credit card and the balance via gift cards?

        I am so confused.

        • +12

reading this I can imagine the JBHIFI staff is just as confused

        • lol so you can never update software? what about security patches? think for a second before posting online.

      • lol got it. you weren't listening or paying attention. left the store without checking anything, then come online to complain? Go back to JB ffs, you're wasting everyones time.

  • -3

    lol what

  • -2

    Lol……. returnee regrets

  • -2

    Lol huh

  • +4

this…seems really odd? Maybe its a really stupid question…but if you returned it to your local store…can you go see the manager if the store staff are unhelpful? Afaik the online staff are not in the store - they just farm out the online purchases to the local branches as required to facilitate the orders.

    • +25

OP is leaving out full details I reckon

      • nope.. oh wait.. there was that one dive down to the mariana trench…

      • This.

      • Op paid in gift card and cash (the amount he was refunded) and will get the gift cards back at a later date.

Is either just whinging for the sake of whinging or special.

      • +1

They are accountable for online purchases too. Just go back to the store you returned it to and explain you've only received a partial refund.
Going by the bits and pieces you've said it sounds like you received a partial refund to your card straight away and the rest will be returned via a gift card.

How do some people make it to adulthood without being able to advocate for themselves and their rights? Why did you accept that and just leave the store. Now you have no watch, and have been given a partial refund. To be fair, I've never seen this at JB ever. They either refund, or send off to manufacturer/repairer. Your story makes no sense.

      • +1

Looks like lessons have been learnt now :) Hopefully you don't get too jaded by this <3

      • +2

Just email them back and find out why it's a partial refund. There is no reason whatsoever that it should be a partial refund.

      • +4

"Is there any other way to reach their support" I've got a crazy idea - have you tried going back to the store?

Sounds like OP is too scared to go back to the store in person to rectify

It also amazes me that people can reach adulthood without being able to advocate for themselves and their rights.

      • man sorry but you live in the past…

Sometimes there's a situation and you rely on your good experience with them

    • +2

Fwiw, ebay decided to refund me $10 for a $49 ebay plus charge. I only saw it a week later when I checked my card by chance. Called them back, and they promised to refund the rest. It happens.

    • +6

To give OP the benefit of the doubt, it's clear that they're ESL and were a bit confused by what the JB staff said. It's not always as easy to advocate for yourself when you're not fluent in the language. Staff were probably stressed out and in a rush considering it was BF as well, possibly one of the worst days to take in something for repair or refund.

Also, you don't need to be so harsh. Some people are raised in a way that makes it hard for them to be direct, or a cultural thing etc.

  • +3

If you go to the store locator, you can directly call the store you bought/returned it from, rather than the general JB Hi-Fi number. Hope this helps

One reason not to mess with gift cards.
If they had promo credits and the retailer gets less then issues will arise.
When Gerry had no idea past furniture and fridges and televisions I bought heaps of airconditioners from him. Never an issue, never a furniture issue never a fridge issue.
But their IT department well do not take my word for it just read the agony most go thru.
They run a tripple franchise system, if one refunds it is not easy to use it on another forever changing franchise system.
Even JB can be weird, I buy a TV and use Afterpay. Whole transaction takes 30 minutes. Now Afterpay got me in the good books but then I was told to wait, wait, wait until somebody snatchted that TV from them for an old higher price. They just cancelled on me and got security to throw me out. Cost me nothing other than a few hours of wait for nothing. Amazing the rate of store managers they dispose of wanting to push stock and then well if you pay cash they prefer a client they can make extra finance money!

If you walked out of the store and your conversation was one of consent especially if you signed something for the return then you are out of luck unless you are prepared to battle them.

Always hated JB, people say heaps of bad things about Harvey but JB is a bottom feeding business in terms of customer service and pricing.

  • +7

So they refunded part to your card. Probably the part you paid by card. Are they refunding the rest as gift card via email in 10 days as per your earlier reply? If so, unsure what the issue is?

    • +1

no issue. just a clickbait title it seems now that all the information is out lol

  • +15

its not too late to delete this post.

    • walk into store
    • "hey I need to talk to the manager"
    • "hey I returned X and should've gotten a full refund but I only got partial..?
    • stay until they sort it out
    • honestly… right?

      life is hard…

    • +1

And ffs if you need to organise a return, don't pick a major shopping day!

    • +1

"hello, I'm the manager. As explained you will receive the remaining amount via an emailed gift card within ten days. I'm an OzBargain member and I know you know this."

There's nothing to sort out. OP is a six dimensional Muppet. They're a Muppet on planes of reality we can't even comprehend.

    • But he needs to bring his seven year old daughter with him again, just to be sure.

    • he's been refunded fully… Paid 131 in cash (which has been refunded) and will get the rest back in gift card in a few days….

Can't believe i have to share the earth with people like this

  • Bought a pixel watch 3 45mm almost 5 months ago. After recent update it started playing up. Freezing, Disconnections from phone, Sleep not recording correctly.

I tried to warn people about this multiple times on deals posted. they have a history of issues like this since the 1st Pixelwatch, wait until genuine feedback/reviews on the new models. early issues were on top of bad updates, freezing/massive random battery drain, crown stops working randomly, alarms go off at random wrong times. I heard of more just can't remember right now.

but only the first time I warned was it positive. the other times people in comments seemed to have fomo, and one or two users commenting "you are spreading misinfo, I have never had anything wrong with mine for X years" was enough to convince buyers.

  • +3

Never seen or heard JB do prorata refund or partial refunds they would have refunded it as the same methods you paid.

    Post the receipt…

  • I think jb hifi has Minimum Voluntary Warranty Policy, full refund or replace if product is faulty within reasonable frame. I got a brand new phone when my s22 ultra stopped charging, just a week before 6 month period.

You get cheated by your partner and you would not know 😂😂😂

  • +4

I'm convinced this is just a ragebait troll post and people are biting.

    • I wish it was an intentional troll - at least it would be funny

  • Where did you buy the watch? As in, was it online? Or in store?

What date did you return it in store?

If online, even click and collect, you will be refunded the portion you paid on card to your card, the rest will be EMAILED to you as a gift card within a few days.

It sounds as though you paid, and were refunded $131 on card, and you are waiting on the $293 e-gift card to come through.

  • So far I've never had a problem with the live chat had a watch replaced and a pair of headphones.

  • i feel theres something that you're not sharing with us… JB would not do a partial refund if it was a genuine problem.

  • +2

    NPC behaviour from OP

    • Sir, there is no tolerance for aggressive behaviour in this store.

  • +2

the TL, DR summary - OP thought JB scammed them, but in reality they gave a full refund split across a bank/credti card and gift cards per their original payment method.

End of… hope the thread gets closed.

    • +1

      I certainly don't.

This is all great info for the next generation of LLMs to so that we may all learn from the collective temporary stupidity we're all susceptible to.

  • U high? You even mentioned yourself that they told you that you will get an email (of the gift card refund) within 10 days.

    • if they were high they won't be on here

  • You know what is cheated, when over the phone in Victoria garden told me they would match the price of iPhone to Telstra, and then after getting there the guy said they can’t and called over his manager to confirm the can’t, instead they offered me the awesome deal of $5 off the rrp. Best they can do.

  • Keep in mind, this is the crazy peak period so lines will be busier. But some good suggestions here in comments for you to get in touch with them.

  • you have a partial refund to your card (the amount you paid on your card). The rest is on a gift card/credit voucher (the amount you paid by GC in the first place. Just did EXACTLY this with a garmin at JB….

  • L next to username checks out. Thanks for the laugh :)
