  • What do the points convert to for both platinum and black models in terms of $$ value

    • +6

Rwrds shows about $320 worth of gift cards for the Platinum card: https://www.rwrds.com.au/credit-cards/westpac-altitude-rewar…

    • +10

75k Altitude Points dones't get you alot these days.

    • +1

Point conversion to airlines is 3:1 I remember? If so that’s 25k qantas or velocity points. If anyone can confirm

      • +2

I'm fairly sure you can't convert Altitude to Qantas points, but you can to velocity. 3:1 sounds about right, but can't remember for sure.

        • +1

Using the points for gift cards seems to be a better option. I’m looking to applying for the black card instead, which offers the same $0 first year fee, but more reward points, and 12k spend in 12 months won’t be any problem.

      • +1

Wow kinda bad when all the other bank reward programs do 2:1 to velocity, 3:1 for the non-aussie airlines programs.

        • The annual fee + reward program fee being $0 makes this very worth doing, especially if you’re serving lockout periods on other cards. It’s points for nothing.

If you have options and don’t want to burn a credit check, consider others.

          • @zfind: The issue is westpac like STG and ANZ have their cards share the same exclusion cooldown. So you're making a choice between rewards/velocity/qantas. Unlike NAB where you can do them all. Personally the $125 fee is worth the 75k velocity/qantas points instead. Black not really for only an extra 15k points and nearly double the fee.

EDIT: Actually seems like they might've changed their t&cs from when it used to explicitly called out their qantas cards. Now it only mentions "Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit cards". But then their qantas/velocity cards have the exact same wording.

            • @vawiyoci: Oh I see, indeed if getting this low-tier card would preclude you from getting a better fee:points ratio earner later, it’s better to abstain.

            • @vawiyoci: Hey, what $125 fee are you referring to? I can't associate $125 with either card, was it some other card offered by Westpac?

              • @random-guy: Seems like they changed a couple of stuff late november that I only just noticed now. First year points have been reduced by 5k, and the discounted base fee for existing customers (just make a free transaction account if you're not one) used to be $49 instead of the current $99. Plus the $75 qantas prorgram fee.

      • Can't convert to Qantas

I applied for my wife about 1.5 weeks ago. She has been Westpac customer for decade and have her identity verified few months ago. In the applicarion, they asked for her passport and visa then verify her identity showing her face too, which have been supplied a week ago. And then nothing happen. The application is still pending review and they kept emailing her that they are awaiting for documentation. Seems that they are now much slower reviewing the application. Raised a complaint and also still awaiting for the outcome. Come on Westpac

    • Wow, that’s harsh. Sounds like you got Dr. Vadgers at Westpac.

    • Earlier in the year it took over a week and a half before they requested my supporting docs and then I think about another week to approve. By far the slowest CC application I have had.

    • I had a similar experience earlier this year. Have been on the CC churning game for a decade now, and this was the first time the application stalled and then timed out. I even went in branch, and eventually, after the teller called the CC approval team, I found out there was a mistake I had to correct, but still nothing happened.

    • +2

Instead of Westpac, they should be called Worstpac….they're the worst of the pack!

      • Cannot be as bad as St. George and clones - it’s just not possible. I recall the WestPac app being very decent.

        • Or chiti bank. Their app was as bad a hsbc. Ancient.

        • I personally don't mind Westpac app.

But same, disagree that WP is the worst of the lot. In my experience ANZ has been the most cumbersome for CC applications!

    • I had to call. Got it sorted within an hour.

Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 24 months, are not eligible for this offer.

    • +3

🤨 Somehow I've never seen or heard of any of those Earth cards

    • +2

Funny cause each time I try to apply, they keep extending the eligibility period. From 12 to 18 and now 24 months…

    • What about a person that is secondary card holder?

      • Secondary card holders are not considered as ineligible

    • Including the Qantas and Virgin versions too

  • is this new:-

    "Cashback offer:

Up to $350 cashback – $50 cashback for each month you spend $1k+ on eligible purchases in the first 7 months from card approval<.

Offer not available if you’ve held a Westpac credit card in the last 24 months. New cards only. Credit criteria and T&Cs apply. Month is based on your credit card statement."

    What's eligible purchases?

    • +1

      It says on the website:

†Eligible purchases do not include interest, fees and charges, cash or ATM cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, gambling transactions, a purchase from or payment to a local, state or federal government or government related agency, BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay), refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account.

    • +1

The $350 cashback offer is for the Low Rate card, btw

  • +3

The 24m waiting periods are a killer!

    • +1

All big banks are heading that way. - Amex is still 18 months cool down. HSBC seems don't list any cooldown period but they are about exit Australia market soon

  • New Westwind in a Pack.

Good offer but title needs polishing to free in 1st year ONLY!

  • So does this include the Westpac Altitude Qantas Black card or only the standard altitude Black? It's not clear to me. Cheers!

    • There is a link to get the Qantas one $0 fee + $75 Qantas fee. It's posted in a separate deal here long running some time ago if this link doesn't do it.

    • Sorry, to clarify- it's not clear to me if the 24 months no eligibility applies if you've had the qantas version of their card

      • Heard back from Westpac, it includes the Qantas and Virgin versions of the cards in the exclusion

  • Existing customers meaning you have a bank account with Westpac?

  • so no deal if it is not an existing Customer?

    • sign up for a transaction acct

  • +2

I read that as Westpac Attitude and thought what a weird name for a credit card…

  • Current customer like me gets jack sh i t

  • +4

To be an "existing" customer, sign up for Westpac's debit card, which currently gives $50 cashback. I did this with the recent Westpac Black Qantas offer. $0 first year fee, $90 QFF program fee for 90k QFF points, and a $50 cashback sweetened the deal

    • Is that Westpac Black Qantas offer still available? I’d like to see the details of that offer, and then decide which card to apply for. Thanks.

  • I am an existing customer but haven't used Westpac for a while. Started the application but got this message after filling out some basic details "A team member will call you in the next 2-4 business days. Until that call, you don’t need to do anything else to your application."

  • THIS WEB PAGE HAS MOVED OR NO LONGER EXISTS

Tried to apply but got this message. Has the deal been removed?

    • Just checked again. The link still works for me. Might be temporarily unavailable.

  • Apparently payments to ATO or even strata levy and utility bills no longer qualify towards bonus fulfillment anymore, ATO/govt payments yeah understandable, but excluding strata levy/water bills? jeez.
i wonder if other banks are as stingy.

    • +2

Sydney water payments via PayPal is eligible, and fee free unlike other payment methods.

      • Strange, Sydney Water is a government agency (wholly owned by NSW Government)

        • At least it’s eligible via PayPal, that’s why I overpaid my water bills. I haven’t tried other payment methods like direct credit card online, as they attract additional fees.

  • Not sure whether the card is free as the link do not work and if you go through the main website the fee is $99 for exisiting customers.

    • Just checked again. The link still works for me. Might be temporarily unavailable.

      • Link works fine with using a computer but not through phone.

Opened a Choice account but having so many issues as it has not opened with my address and phone correctly so the credit card application couldn't proceed as needed to update those. Called Westpac and they updated it as somehow the details i entered didn't go to a primary contact. Now when trying to apply, site saying having technical difficulties.

        • +1

The link works for me both in Chrome on a computer and in Safari on my iPhone. The page might be cached on your phone when it was down.

  • -2

Credit card sign ups are just a way to get all your personal financial information.

Who cares can I pay my bill yes that’s all you need to know

  • St. George/BOM have the same deal but with a $58 annual fee

Got another 2-3 months before the 2 year waiting periods up for westpac, so may just bite the bullet and get the St. George one for now.

  • I applied Nab qantas signature card 2 days ago and get approved today after sending payslips. Much faster process than Westpac. Westpac one is still pending review. Probably only 1 person doing all 100s application.

    • Did you apply for 2 cards at the same time? How did you answer the question “do you have another credit card”? Will the bank see that you have done 2 credit enquires, and will it be bad for credit records? Apologies for asking too many questions…

      • Done that way few times. Often applied two cards within days. Usually due to the first one got instant rejection and the 2nd one had promotion also good to get. Always got the 2nd one approved, lol.

  • Applied and approved on the same day.

    • Applied couple of days ago after opening choice account and submitted some supporting paperwork but still waiting to be approved.

Much faster process with HSBC and NAB for me which was either same day or next day approval.

  • Anyone who applied, did you received any documents to confirm that the first year annual fee is $0?

The link above shows $0, but if you go through the normal Westpac Credit Card section it is showing $99.

    • +1

It has to be $0 if you apply via that link, because the link is to Westpac's website, and it says $0. Westpac is going to have a problem if it doesn't honour what it says on its own website.

      • I applied with the link and have been approved, but received nothing about the product. Maybe it will come with the card or another email.
