[NSW] XPENG G6 EV Free 5-Day Extended Test Drive - Pickup at Mascot or Barangaroo @ XPENG

1180

Make of this what you will, but the XPENG G6 is currently being offered with a 5 day Test Drive. Fully charged EV, looks to be only offered at a few locations. May possibly not be worth the hassling I'm assuming you'll get afterwards from the sales team. Enjoy!

Boring! Sydney to Melbourne trip for me plus I might take it out to Sydney Dragway and see what it's got in it.

      • +4

You could say that about any test drive.

        • +1

I thought traditional dealers will have some staff sitting with you

          • +1

@Tmbao95: Never let them do that, or they just sit and distract you talking sh!t while you're trying to give the car a good work out. Always insist on a test drive on your own.

          • +2

@Tmbao95: I doubt anyone will be sitting with you for 5 days.

          • +2

@Tmbao95: I don't think I've had someone do that to me for 20 years and probably 15-20 test drives except for BYD who was doing the hard sell the entire time and couldn't be bothered answering questions about the car.

            • +2

@CharlieAus: Tesla have the best buying experience you just order online, and when delievery day comes you accept on app and are gone in car within 2 min. no sales people not BS. you get what you want and then you leave.

              • @kungfuman: Yeah, I have a Model Y LR (and a Kia EV5 GT-Line on order)

              • @kungfuman: i've been spam called every 3 months after a test drive

      • +5

Yeah! No way they take 100 points of ID before giving you the vehicle…

      • XPENG G6 offers these functions as well & nothing goes via the Patriot Act (apples to iPhones) to C/iA ;(

      • +6

I hear BYD have spare cars they lend out for running errands around town.

          • +1

@Lord Ra: Free off boat, i.e. immigrants

            • +1

              @boku: Today I learnt!

              Yep, can concur.

Small single lane Roundabout, indicating right for 3rd exit, slow AF because I know how people going straight generally drive.

Saw this brown lady coming from the left, I'm already ½way through my turn, slowed down, she didn't, I had to stop in the middle of the roundabout because if I didn't, I'd be tboned. Had my partner and baby with me in the car too.

              She didn't flinch.
              Head didn't turn.
Hand didn't go up for an apology wave.
              Nothing. Just kept going.

If I could get my hands on her, or her small white dinky car, oh boy… #catfight

Our driving tests need to change. Speeds don't kill. Bad drivers who don't follow rules do.

              • +1

@Lord Ra: Oh typo, meant fresh off the boat. But yeah, you get the point.

  • What's the catch here

    • +20

You have to be seen in an XPENG G6

      • +2

Looks fine in a boring Tesla Y kind of style.

        • +1

Ur kidding right? Way better looking than MY, especially the old MY, objectively the ugliest popular car ever made

          • +2

@mlburnian: While I do think it looks better than the Model Y, I don't think it looks amazing. It looks like a bar of soap on wheel.

Test drove it recently though, its pretty nice. Just don't love the exterior styling.

            • @buckethat: Funny you say that. I'd say its easily one the better exterior styled cars coming out of China in our market. A very low bar to beat granted. Overwhelming majority of them like they are designed (externally) by failed apprentice designers from 2000 era Hyundai's. I include BYD in that group too, although at least the boxy Shark is not half bad.

              • +3

@Xizor: Haha I suppose its all personal preference.

I was at a Zeekr showroom to look at the 7X today, met another bloke there who was shopping for an EV too. We actually both agreed that the design was kinda boring and that we both preferred the look of Sealion 7, while both having the G6 at the bottom cause it looks too much like a blob.

                Personally, exterior design wise.. Sealion 7 > 7X > G6

Interior though.. 7X > Sealion 7 > G6, while all are actually quite nice, 7X felt the most premium easily, Sealion 7 felt like a premium traditional interior, G6 is super nice inside but doesnt have alot going on which is not to my preference.

Overall though, from both interior and exterior design perspective, I'd take any of these over the Tesla offering. Tesla feels kind of sterile in comparison.

            • +1

@buckethat: Yeah I kind of wish it had the sealion exterior. I dunno why, but I quite like it, shame about the tech inside not being up to the G6 par.

          • @mlburnian: Nah, the ugliest car is the Ford Taurus

    • +3

Wait time for the test drive and you might actually want to buy it.

    • -1

Catch is if someone hit your car or damage it you pay

      • You might be on to something. These cars don't sell, and if they price them any cheaper they'd be selling for a loss. So it's better to have a deal like this, hope it gets totaled and get paid out by insurance. And only excess needs to be paid by the test driver.

        /s - this is a joke.

If the Sales person in Coburg, Vic was anything to go by, then I am sure they won't be pushy. His name was Ronnie Koh and was surprisingly pleasant and did not use any pressure tactics.

I liked the test drive and am considering taking this offer. Almost finalizing between Sealion 7 and this and the Child occupancy detection in Sealion is making me lean towards it.

    • +15

the Child occupancy detection in Sealion is making me lean towards it

This worries me parents need this as a feature…

      • +1

        Dude, where’s my kid?

      • I know right? Must be some seriously tired parents

      • +3

After the recent nightmarish deaths, better be safe than sorry and also, this feature is becoming standard across all cars going forward.

        • +2

Good news is that highly likely you won't ever use this function - The media (rightly so) makes it like a common thing but statistically low. You already worried about this so it's in will be etched in the back of your mind! But If you still worried , there are after market sensor available that you can easily install for less than $50

          • @Indomietable: That is correct my friend. Need to be mindful and prioritise the little ones regardless of what's happening in our lives.
Good tip on the sensor as well.

      • +1

I didn’t realise that forgetting you had children was such a big issue.

        • +1

When they're locked and left alone in the back of your car, the heat can, may and will kill them. Especially if younger, they can't climb out of the seat.

          https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-03/nsw-tributes-to-toddl…

"Ms Erskine said there were about 5,000 "near misses" each year in Australia, where children have been saved from a hot car. "

    • +10

I actually bought a G6 from Ronnie on Friday. He was super knowledgeable and honestly didn’t use any sales tactics at all. The test drive completely sold me—compared to the Sealion 7, the G6 just felt more solid, more planted, and not floaty.

I was literally about to sign for the Sealion 7 but wanted to test-drive the G6 first, and I’m glad I did. The 800V system was a big plus for me too — the DC fast-charging capability is miles ahead.

If you’re torn mainly because the Sealion 7 has child-occupancy detection, I’d just weigh up how important that single feature is versus the overall driving feel, charging performance, and build quality. For me, the G6 was the better all-round package.

      • +2

I am not considering it as it does not have moon rood shade. Will be very hot in summer

        • +5

There is a pop in one you can get. And I live in QLD and have had no issues with it since March when I got mine. We had some days nudging 40C last week and was no worse than any other car without glass on a midday drive.

      • +1

And range. I assume you got the LR

      • +1

Nice! Enjoy your new ride! Yes even I loved the G6.

So as per your experience, you felt the G6 had the better ride? The other consideration is I will be getting Novated Lease to take advantage of the FBT exemption. After the NL ends, the BYD may stand a better chance at resale? Maybe debatable but seems like it atm.

    • +22

      nice try, Ronnie Koh

      • +1

        lol

      • +1

I like the way snrub thinks!

    • -3

Holy crap. How this feature is even a thing people need, let alone decide on buying a car based on it. Asteroid just hit us now lol

      • +9

Everyone thinks it would never happen to them, until it happens to them.

Some people are willing to buy a car that's less likely to result in their family dying, that's their decision to make and you don't need to judge them for it.

If you want something to be outraged about, I'm sure you can find something better than a safety feature to yell at the sky over.

        • -6

Astonishment is not outrage my dear friend. Guess i should of added a trigger warning. But i'll grant you that, on reflection looking at how an increasaing amount of people are these days, perhaps it is a feature that will be needed and at a growing rate. Next challenge… remembering to put the kid in the car in the first place.

          • +2

@Xizor: You must have a lot of friends.

Sorry, I mean "You must of a lot of friends".

I'm sure the number keeps increasaing.

      • +3

Dude its not the feature itself but the fact that the cars are so similar that 1-2 extra features will make you lean either ways. I have test driven both and am torn and hence finding any logical reason to choose one!

      • +4

It's probably not a feature for you. You probably haven't gone through the depths of sleepless nights through multiple/simultaneous children/babies while working and lost concentration.

Although fairly counter argued that you probably shouldn't be behind the wheel of a multi-ton vehicle in this state.

    • +2

Ronnie was great, and seemed to have decades of past experience with a lot of different European and Japanese vehicle OEMs.

  • +1

        • +4

probably same as rental cars policies ~ couple of thousands.

    • unless you are considering the car I don't understand jumping on a 5 day test drive when a scratch puts you at risk of forking out 4-5k
