When the sign says free but then it immediately quotes a price. Probably an exit scam.

    • Initially I thought the same thing, however maybe can put it down to a cultural / language thing (English is not their first language)

However if you are likely to eat there more than 5 times in the month you come out ahead compared to paying the one-off pricing….

      • +29

can put it down to a cultural / language thing

I can't seem to find where that exemption is in the ACCC laws.

im asian. Bro, we know what free means, comeon. If the guy can open a restaurant, they know what free means.

    • +11

It’s free if you are a member which has a monthly fee.

      • +5

Looks like the Thai restaurant saw those subscription lottery scams / loopholes and decided to adopt the idea for food

        • +2

          They definitely Thai'd their luck

There is a typo on the sign, should be FEE BUFFET

    • +3

It’s either a protestors sign or a call of help from the buffet stuck inside.

      PHOEBE BUFFAY

    Good deal for Warren.

    • The famous investor Warren Buffett does not typically dine at food buffets, as his diet famously consists of simple, processed, and fast foods. He has stated that his diet is like that of a six-year-old, favoring hamburgers, ice cream, and Coke over fancy or lavish dining experiences.
Buffett's favorite foods and eating habits include:
McDonald's breakfast: His daily breakfast order from McDonald's is reportedly determined by how the stock market performed that day.
Coca-Cola: He has been known to drink multiple cans of Coke a day and has even said he is "one-quarter Coca-Cola". His company, Berkshire Hathaway, also holds large investments in Coca-Cola.
Dairy Queen: As the owner of Dairy Queen, Buffett often indulges in their ice cream and other treats.
Steakhouse meals: For more formal dinners, he enjoys meals at his favorite Omaha steakhouse, Gorat's Steak House.

He would for $5.30 per day!

        Thanks Mr Gemini

      • Interesting, with all that money you'd think he'd have gone for some healthier options by now!

If I had that kinda money I'd be having GYG's grilled chicken burrito!

    • It's "boo-fay"

      • Thai boo-fay? or Warren boo-fay?

  • +1

    Interesting concept

    • +2

      Free but not free ?

    • +3

Its not a new concept, but there's a reason no restaurant business do this.

  • +3

Sounds like a plan to close down within 30 days. lol
joking aside, I am sure they can limit your buffet time to 15 mins/day, and when they are full, they will keep you waiting, always push you back to the very end of the queue.

    • +1

I am sure they can limit your buffet time to 15 mins/day

Their normal time limit for the lunch buffet is 60m. Looking through the google reviews (4.3/5), if this offer is exactly the same terms as the normal $35 lunch buffet, inc soft drinks and ice cream, it looks a decent offering for the money.

If I worked in Brisbane city I'd give it a go.

  • +5

Interesting idea. Every day Thai for lunch. I wonder when I wouldn’t be able to take any more Thai food. Imagine every day Maccas/KFC/whatever rocks your boat. I know “fun food” is fun. But every day, no break?
That being said, Thai for dinner tonight. But can’t find a provider for $5.30…

    • I could see a world where you pay this price for a whole food court/multiple cuisines. Might actually make sense for the restaurants with enough subscribers.

    • It's a buffet. Surely there's good amount of variety.

  • +3

Wouldn't be eating that food every day.
Reminds me of the grilled chip pass, sounds great on paper but end up forcing them down to get your value and obviously most people will only make it 3 or 4 days a week max.

    • +25

Feel sorry for the millions of Thai people forced to eat Thai every day

      • How much do they pay?

      • +1

Feel sorry for the millions of Thai people forced to eat Thai every day

Are they eating in a restaurant? Home cooked food is very different.

        • Yeah home cooked food tastes worse and is a pain in the ass to make & clean up.

          • +3

            @dantrax77:

Yeah home cooked food tastes worse

Thank God I live in a different home than you where the food is delicious and cooking is rather enjoyable. Cleaning is a small price to pay for good health.

Cleaning is a small price to pay

Downright enjoyable and a breeze with the right company.

      • there are at least hundreds of different Thai disbes in Thai. how many dishes in this restaurant?

        • different Thai disbes

          Here are some Italian disbes…

        • Google it or go there if you are actually interested. Maps has pics and menu.
          Pretty westernised.

Thai Pochana is awesome is Elizabeth street, just go there a few times a month instead.

      • -1

It may be delicious but it's usually oily, salty and sweet. You can't control how healthy it is from a restaurant as well. Consider it take out.

There are obviously Thai dishes but my bet is most of this won't be (except the rice and vegetable). Given it's a buffet most will probably overeat as well.

Btw Sam's kitchen in fortitude valley does a similar special weekdays for like $12.50 or something

    • +1

Yeah I did that grilld chip thing nearly every day for a month. So good. But yeah a tad unhealthy. I washed it down with a couple sushi rolls.

  • 3 days/week is the most I can force myself to do, also depending on what they serve. Let’s just say 3/week and 13/month. $12/meal isn’t bad, but not a bargain to me. $99 is probably more attractive.

    • -1

first 100 customer only you may not have changce to be the first 100

  • Thai every day XDD

  • I love a happy ending.

      Actually, that is a thing.

    • Imagine being kicked out of an all you can eat, who'd do such a thing?

      • 'Tis no man… 'tis a remorseless eating machine! Arrr!

So all the gyms are free, you pay a membership, then go work out for free.

All the streaming services are also free, you pay a membership, unlimited watch.

    • Tbf I see free gym ads all the time until I call

      • -1

You usually have to join to get the free weeks, basically a fee wavier. But you can cancel before billing starts, they may ask questions but can't stop you if you insist. You do get the 4 weeks or whatever for $0 when no joining fee is also in effect.

        • -1

Free for the rest of the year (a month, when you sign up to an 18 month direct debit contract)

        • I have to pay for this fee and that fee before I can use the facilities.

For streaming services, we are borrowing and not owning. Nothing costs them extra really.

  • +4

I would rather pay $35 for a one time in a while thai buffet then forced to have it everyday just to make the most of it for a whole month. You would get sick of it on the 5th day, I’m surprised that they came up with this idea lol. Thanks for the post anyways

    • You would get sick of it on the 5th day,

That's what they hope. No way they could make a profit if you dined there 30 times a month. But that gamble is at the heart of all buffets.

Even an expensive $150/seat buffet can still lose money if you load up on wagyu steaks, lobster, and truffles.

    • Exactly, there are plenty of those places like shabu house and much healthier options.

I would suggest people go and get the buffet once there to test what it's like anyway, they already offer it for $35. Looks pretty westernised and fit that price I'd rather a hot pot place.

You'd want to get there early when the bain maries are will fresh and full. I can't imagine them keeping up with demand but you never know.

Check out Google maps for menu and pics.

  • Is it capped at once a day or can I go for brunch at 11am and again at 2.30 for linner?!

    • 2.30 for linner

Is this another one of those extra meals like hobbit elevensies?

  • free but not free, what about all the extras alcohol bevs, drinks , dessert coffee and so on ? probably extra charge 159$ per month would be over priced for me.

  • The buffet includes unlimited drinks too as per the Google maps

    • Unlimited soft drinks and soft serve according to their website

  • I feel bad for this business. They're just struggling like most people.

    • -6

Go and eat there then, no need to get this deal, you could try the buffet once for $35 or order anything else.

      Prayers and wishes don't help.
      Bar girls can't eat love.

  • +1

I would get this deal if I'm single and it's near where I work.
I would go there at close to 3PM and have a big meal and then skip or have small dinner.
Their menu is not too small, so you definitely can rotate .

I have seen people meal prep the same butter chicken and eat for the whole week , so this can't be that bad.

    • wouldn't be much there around 3pm.
Just fast and go closer to 11am when it's fresh and hot.

      • Yeah I've had big lunches at 11 and still felt satiated well into the night.

        • True. After a buffet session, I don't feel like eating anything until next day

    • I thought the other way that you eat more when you can burn extra calories with a partner.
