Just use it and pay it off instantly? My god chill out

          • +4

@KenDiaMoi: You can also set zip to automatically debit the full amount owing at the end of the month, I believe.

        • i love it how people neg debt free people lol.

          • +8

@kungfuman: You’re being negged because you're assuming everyone that uses credit services has debt.

          • +7

@kungfuman: You're being negged because "debt free" is a ridiculous assertion.

You should take advantage of credit when it's cheaper than paying outright - like this deal !

Avoiding all credit to stay "debt free" is a finance fail.

        • +2

No understanding that free credit is free money shows you have no idea about finances lmao

        • You can pay off your all your credit card debt BEFORE the due date.
You need debt in order to buy a house/apartment.
And if you don't buy a home, you will spend most of your salary paying rent for the rest of your life.
Unless you are lucky enough to have inheritance or win the lotto.

      • +4

You can also get around it by paying with gift cards.

    • you don't need to share here or enter this post.
because people don't even care whether you have deby or not.

  • Pity only max $50.
    Makes the PS5 Pro - $938.95
    Still too expensive.

    • Yeah, you can get the same discount with DECSAVE code for that one, and it was $20 cheaper last month.

  • Patiently waiting for the Airstrait to go below 300 for me to bite.

  • Hmm waiting to get a good saving for the airwrap i.d. but no good saving i can find there sadly

  • Switch 2 down to $594 after code applied from BE Games. Not ATL, but still reasonable for anyone who missed the last deal.

  • credit checks incoming!

  • Ends Friday the 5th

Are we into Whacky Wednesday now?

    • +1

If it's a concept dreamed up by marketing in the USA then yes, we probably are.

  • +1

Do they do a credit check when you apply for it? I dont belive AfterPay does it

    • If you're worried about credit checks then you probably shouldn't be opening up new lines of credit.

      • +2

Its for getting discount options. I always pay in full right away.

        • Are credit checks that big of a deal then? When I got my home loan they made a small comment about my credit card churning it was prolific for a while) but it didn’t impact my loan or interest rate.

It’s not the US where they penalise you for everything.

          • +2

@freefall101: Unfortunately they are a big deal if you are not in full time employment. It's almost impossible to get a credit card and now becoming more difficult to get a BNPL account. And before anyone lectures me about my moral turpitude, I own a property and it's paid outright.

            • @peter: Ah yeah, that makes sense. Didn't think beyond myself there, which was daft.

I can't imagine how much of a pain it is for anyone part time employed, self employed, just smart with money, etc but don't fit the cookie cutter bank model.

          • @freefall101: Zip conducts credit checks when you apply, which is a hard enquiry that can be visible on your credit file.

    • The Quick Truth About Afterpay and Your Credit Score
Let's cut to the chase. Yes, Afterpay can now affect your credit score—but probably not in the way you think.

Until recently, Buy Now Pay Later services flew under the radar. They weren't really credit products in the traditional sense, so they didn't show up on your credit file unless something went seriously wrong. But here's the twist: as of mid-2024, everything changed. The government brought BNPL under consumer credit laws, and suddenly Afterpay's June 2025 Credit Reporting Policy reads like a proper financial document.

What does this mean for you? Afterpay now conducts credit checks. They report to illion, one of Australia's major credit bureaus. And yes, those missed payments you thought nobody would notice? They might just pop up when you apply for that car loan next year.

    • +1

Yes, they do a credit check.

  • +1

Yes they do, Primary source of income, full time, part time, casual, self-employed, student, retired, other. Company name, Time with company, income frequency. I did not continue with my application as I did not want to notch up a credit enquiry on my file.

Just used but paid via gift cards from shopback(tech swap gift card). Still choose zip but if your gift card covers full balance you don't have to do anything further.

    • Thanks, I did the same and it worked

    • Thank you for the advice!

    • I didn't know this was even possible! I always thought you needed to pay some part of the balance with Zip. Seems like a bit of a loophole, but hey, I'll take it. Thanks for the tip!

Can Zip pay be used making the payment equal to the whole amount and pay it now? Seems like the minimum fee is $2.50 per payment.

You can use your Zip account to pay bills through BPAY. We pay the bill upfront, and you repay us over time. Easy!

    Is there a fee?

There’s a flat $2.50 payment processing fee per bill when you pay using Zip Pay and Zip Money.*

    • What does paying BPAY bills (phone, utilities, etc.) using Zip have to do with buying something on eBay using Zip?

    • -2

      See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/17159705/redir

Zip App or website to make direct payments from your bank account is typically fee-free. However, if you choose to pay bills via BPAY, a flat $2.50 processing fee applies per bill.

  • I tried signing up for zip pay, but my application was immediately denied at the step where you enter a phone number.

I got the verification code, entered it, then was immediately rejected. It said I can try to sign up again in 12 months.

  • how to delete my zip account?
