Air Asia is my favourite low cost, cheap and cheerful carrier, which flies via Kuala Lumpur, and includes carry-on luggage. This is personally the only airline I'd pay for food on - the nasi goreng is worth buying twice!

Flights are around Asia, but I've included some of my favourite hot spots below.

  • Any cheap prices for the slow month of December?

    • +1

Only if you fly on Christmas Day or other very unpopular travel times

  • Is multi city available, eg fly into Osaka and out of Tokyo ?

    • I just did a test on this, it is about $90 more expensive to fly out of Osaka for the outbound leg. I checked this via Skyscanner.

      • Compare that with the price of catching the bullet train back to Tokyo.

Two weeks ago, I flew JQ to Osaka from Sydney.

A bullet train cost me $A150 from Osaka to Tokyo.

I then returned to Sydney with QF from Tokyo.

How are Air Asia these days? Are they safer now and don't take war conflicted routes?

    • how many conflicts are you flying over from Sydney to Tokyo mate? Be reasonable.

I dont know, I'm not a geography expert

        • +1

          Username checks out.

      • If State of Origin is on Brisbane could get hairy.

      • They did have a few crashes which weren't related to war a few years back

  • Thanks! Is Air Asia the equivalent of Jetstar in terms of 'comfort'?

    • +2

Probably slightly worse in terms of seat width, Air Asia (X) fit 9 abreast seating in the aircraft used on the Sydney <-> Tokyo route but have 32 inches of seat pitch.

  • +2

Cheap flights, but just be aware the seat nearly killed my back and it was not enough leg space (I’m 1.7m). I did a trip to KL in 2024 and am used to flying on Scoot. Never again. Not for everyone, especially if you only travel 1-2 times a year because of precious limited annual leave, just spend more.

  • Doesn't every airline include carry on? Did you mean check in baggage?

    Melbourne to Tokyo/Osaka?
