  • Not sure if just me but man does using photoshop feels like going back to the 90s. Still industry standard?

Still an industry standard for pre press and graphic design but the theft model aka subscription Adobe charges is wearing thin on everyone

My wife and I cancelled hers a few months ago after the 3rd in crease in under a year, all the A.I garbage in it gets in the way of doing your work

The pre press place she does work for are also struggling so they have decided to go halves in a licence as they only need it to make small edits and changes before they print to plate so my wife uses it most of the time and saves 50%

She wants to get away from them all together and many in the industry do

I heard about this being a good adobe suite competitor, although I can’t confirm. Maybe she can try this??

Affinity is overhyped garbage. Just name one uni or TAFE college that teach their students anything other than Adobe everything, and there’s good reason why. Yes, Adobe is expensive, but it’s the gold standard.

@JeBs: Affinity is fine for like 3/4 of folks doing simple things. Media professionals will still use Adobe for a while, and students will be taught Adobe for a while, but the tide IS slowly turning. And thankfully most of those things being taught on Adobe are skills rather than bespoke product features and will translate to other software.

I started using photoshop in the 90's with version 3. I finally ditched Adobe Creative Cloud around a month ago. The software is glitchy, bloated and I still couldn't use Illustrator in full screen mode. I'm using Affinity now. No software is perfect, and I'm having to learn my way around some different tools, but I love the way that I can now swipe in and out of Affinity on my Mac, and having their equivalent of Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign all in the same app is pretty handy. A lot of stuff is intuitive if you're familiar with Adobe suite of apps, but there is still a learning curve. It gets my recommendation.

      • I negotiated a discount when renewing (as you always should) and this year the package was actually $50 cheaper if we added in the AI tools lol

    • My partner uses it. The industry is locked in with the network effect. You have a small number of senior people who use it and are not interested in changing. Then everyone else needs a copy to collaborate on their files. Then, since they already have to own a license there's no incentive for them to learn an alternative for their own work. It sucks and everybody hates it but feels stuck with it.

    • maybe for photos but not much for videos any more most pros use Final Cut X or Davinci resolve, Premier isn't what it used to be.

  • I got on Adobe with half off feesand have been good 3 years.

Adobe are parasites. If you ever have the opportunity to get off their software, do it. Unfortunately it's still the "industry standard" in most places now.

  • To counteract the points above, I love the Creative Suite. $80 a month isn't too bad in my opinion considering how much I use it at work, and is cheaper than the $2k they used to charge every two years for the latest version of the Master Suite (especially factoring in inflation).

    • If you use it all day every day, then maybe. For people who are only using it sporadically, it’s absolutely very expensive.

I’m a veteran Adobe Suite expert, and I do love it, but I struggle to justify the cost as my workflow has changed and I’ve moved to more senior roles.

Im guessing this is what they're doing because affinity gave away everything for free.

  • I guess they have lost heaps of revenue. I didn't renew my subscription few months ago and they gave me 3 months extension FOC but I still cancelled my subscription after that 3 months. I have been getting their 50% off offer from them since then.

  • What happens if my plan did not renew to payment failure? Can I sign up to this free sub? Or do I still need a new account? Mine just ended few days ago and I was just using LR + PS for photographers

Perfect timing, looks like I got in - Free trial — 121 days left

    • If it is just a matter of using a different email address to sign up, I would just go straight to doing that.

What I am wondering is if this offer has an expiration date, and if not, can you go for this offer again in 4 months time?

  • Did you use your existing email address/Adobe account that you previously used for your paid subscription?

If so, it is interesting that they allowed you to do so. It effectively means that there existing subscription base could get 4 months for free if they allow their subscription to lapse - though from previous posts, it seems that a free 3 month sub is offered to those threatening to leave anyhow.

  • Does anyone know why this link and sign up is in french and does anyone know if it will affect the software when it's installed? Would prefer everything to be in english lol

  • Showing in English for me.

Maybe try a different browser, or make sure your VPN is not set to a French speaking country.

    • Really? The link has french words in it.. I've tried it in 2 other browsers (firefox and duck duck go) and it's still coming up in french. I'm not connected to a VPN.
