R.M.Williams Comfort Craftsman Cedar $489 (RRP $699) Delivered @ R.M.Williams

190

So my pair of Craftsman made it to 6 years last week and i finally took them into the cobbler to get them resoled only to be told they'll be $250 (RM Williams told me they were too far gone).

Decided to get a new pair and went searching, for some reason this came up on sale with all sizes in stock through google. Couldn't find it on the site itself.
Both Wide and standard fits.
There is a standard brown leather version for $519, however this is only in standard sizing
$489 isn't the Sub $400 pricing of yesteryear but it's far better than the new $599 & $699 RRP's

Ah there it is, the sheep keep bringing up that video where he has no idea what he is talking about and obviously doesn't know that RM makes the exact shoe he should be looking at.

He gets a comfort craftsman, cuts it in half and complains that it has foam inside instead of cork and leather.
Yes it's in the name, comfort should be the big give away.

Foam is also a standard insole for 90% of boots, both good and bad ones.

Watch him complain that RM "lied" about it being leather, but RM never state that it is.

He could have cut a standard craftsman in half but then there wouldn't have been a rage video to generate clicks

          Ah yes uninformed trolls unite!

That's the calmest outrage I've ever seen lol

He's right though, all that stuff is why it has the comfort name. I have a pair of old style Bushman's which have leather soles and they're bloody hard. Zero cushioning.

The build quality is definitely better on the older boots than newer boots I feel - but my new ones as the comparison point are four years old already, so they may have gotten worse since then

  • I'm a convert. My next boots will be Kidman - https://kidman.com/

Never heard of them and just took a look - they look good! But after reading the About Us page, it’s hard to support Gina Rinehart, will be a pass from me personally.

That legacy lives on today through Nicholas’ granddaughter, Gina Rinehart. As Executive Chair of S.Kidman & Co, she brings the same values—hard work, an understanding of the land, and a deep commitment to Australia’s future.

        Yea…….

      Made in India?

      What makes you a ‘convert’?
Why would you pay nearly the same price as RMs (made in Australia), for boots outsourced to India? Do you like giving Gina extra money?

      • -1

Family member got a pair. They look great.

And not really the same price. The Kidman's were 20% off over the weekend which puts them well below this.

If I had to give money to Gina or Twiggy, it'll be Gina everyday of the week. Twiggy wants everyone to know about his philanthropy. Gina is much more subtle about it.

        • +2

If Gina was serious about Australia these boots would be made here, but they're made in India where it's cheaper so more mark-up.

Say what you like about Twiggy but he's increased the size of the Rm Williams Factory so that's more production and more jobs here.

    • Hope there boot making obsession has a better proofing of quality then then their website - Our Story …….Now, the story continues. While cattle remain part of our DNA, S.Kidmam celebrates our……

they're supposed to be BIFL if they're rooted after 6 years then what's even the point?

    • +3

I was an on site engineer that did thrash the crap out of them.

now i'm stuck in an office and they'll get babied.

The corporate cowboy boots will fit in on the Terrace with your chinos and mining company polo shirt

  • Bloke purchased a new set when he didn't have to, still a good deal though. I have a pair that are 19 years old and you never, ever, EVER ask for RM to repair them. You can get an independent to do it for 10% of the price. Just lazy really.

    • RM now isn't the RM 19 years ago

    • +2

RM rejected them so had to go independent who came back with $250

  • +2

250 for a resole? To put in context, I probably spent that much maintaining my regular craftsman bought 12-13 years ago. 2x topy, 2x heel and 1x elastic. Worth it for CBD commuter, the leather is good and keeps its shape, comfortable and patina is nice.

  • I remember when this was standard price

    • I remember when a large chips was $2

      • I remember when a 30c cone was 30c.

        • I remember when 20c got me a tuckshop lunch.

$489 for Kmart looking shoes. Great deal!

  • Hey they're made from otterproof suede! I guess that's important if your feet often get attacked by otters.

  • Thursday boots no doubt will blow all these shoes away.
