    what's the mining buyback time?

  • +1

    I'l buy when under 450!

    • +20

Not entirely sure that's going to happen. I think GPU Prices are going to be the best they are for the next few months.

Considering 16GB of RAM is about to hit $400 this having 16GB VRAM it's pretty much a free GPU. Just hook up a second 9060XT in place of your system RAM soon enough.

If the cost of consumer RAM rises +300% (Single 16gb dimms were around $100 prior to the shortage) naturally bigger RAM manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix etc won't be as insistent to completely cut production for HBM demand.
They can simply demand higher prices in the short term and adjust it as production volumes match the current demand which seems to be their proposed strategy while Nvidia are forcing their AIBs to hold the bag.
This isn't necessarily a bad, worse case scenario because it's not a whole industry boycott of production. There's also the looming threat of cheaper Chinese CXMT memory that could upturn Asian markets going into production next year.

The current demand is also probably driven by a lot of Black Friday purchasing for other components, and Christmas/Holiday demand. While manufacturer forecasts don't expect prices to return to prior pricing until End of 2027.
When is it a free GPU to you?

I think time horizon and relevancy to the builder is essential to consider if they're an Ozbargainer. If they want a build in the 6 months, then I think it's a great purchase.
If they're only buying it to hoard for some End of 2026 purchase or scalping decision, then probably not.

          • @Yve: Production won’t ramp up, micron and co aren’t stupid enough to be holding the bag and risking bankruptcy if the bubble pops

            • @Kazusa: They're not increasing production, never implied that. I mentioned cutting production aka redirecting fabs to HBM production. Opening up new production capacity isn't an immediate response type strategy they can implement.
Imo, it's kind of an overreaction, if you know anyone living in China or HK, have them visit a Computer Center
              16GB DDR5 4800mhz Netac Basic Dimms are still around 550-600 RMB - 600-699 HKD

Only when the AI bubble pops.

      • -5

AMD cards aren't particularly useful for AI.

    • +4

GPU's are about to be hit hard with the VRAM costs, they're already more expensive components than regular DDR5.

    • +2

If you buy it during everyday market 28% cashbacks you can get it at around $400 (just got mine delivered this week for a htpc)

as quick as an rx 6800, that i got for cheaper, 3 years ago.

    lol

    • +22

yeah i got a lot of things cheaper 3 years ago too mate, blame the bloke in your profile for some of it haha

    • New?

    • Same lol, but my Rx 6800 is dying. I was hoping to get another rx 6800 used but the prices don't seem worth it.

    • Be very curious to see how it goes after FSR4 with "Redstone" though!

$1000 GPU from 5 years ago is 10% better than $500 GPU today. go figure.

I acted too fast earlier in the week and paid $599, live and learn.

    the b580 12gb for 399
    the palit 5060ti 16gb for $499
    the 9060xt for $549

i dont think we will see these prices this low for a while, or only if the AI Busts

i think the next value new card might be the B570 10gb for $329

    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/68156/sparkle-intel-arc-…

    • The B580 gets even more compelling if you consider the ~$100 game it comes with.

  • the palit 5060ti 16gb for $499

    Got a link?

    • sorry i was refering to the pre-black friday sale centercom had for it

      • +1

With OpenAI setting up office in Australia and Nvidia making AI servers, I think that bubble is holding out longer.

      • U mean 599$? Pretty sure never seen 499$ on 5060 Ti before

        • opps yes you are correct 599

  • Still got my ATI 9800XT around here somewhere…

  • These prices still suck, it ends up being ~5% better fps/dollar than a 9070, worse value if you're doing a full pc build.

    • I agree the prices suck in general but I think a linear relationship between price and performance is fair

    • Actually is worse $/fps than $800 9070.
