    Good deal for Bill

  • That's cheap. So you just attach a hard drive to the sync module?

    • USB HDD or thumb drive.

      • +1

Up to 256GB USB HDD or thumb drive … right? They artificially limit the attached thumb drive to push you to a cloud sub…

        • +1

Correct. I use a 128GB. I keep clips for 10 days. Has not filled during any 10 day period.

  • +1

Will I still able to receive notifications without subscription?

  • Looks like nom onvif to steal for frigate setup

  • +1

$7 more for the doorbell seems like a no brainer?

    • I think it’s like 15 buxs per month. It’s not for 1 tho, it’s for like 100

      • i don't have 100 doors maybe i can sell

        • It’s not just for doors, you can use security cameras wherever your wifi reaches.

          • @unhuman: So just 1 door cam and 5 cameras is free local storage? No need for a sub?

            • @BadGiraffe: You can have local storage. But without subs most of the things don’t work.

            • @BadGiraffe: There is no local storage at the camera level. You need sub to record clips. The USB drive is attached to the sub not the camera. The sub can handle a large number of cameras. The cameras have different names and the clips can be arranged by time or by camera name.

              • @newxr: Bugger. I might get some Eufy cameras maybe. I already have a Eufy door cam with that hub thing with the hard drive in it.

              • @newxr: Are you talking about the sync module when you say sub? Cause I figured everyone else is referring to a Blink subscription that costs money per month.

No you do not need a subscription to record clips, you just need to have a storage device plugged into the Sync Module. But yeah you need a Sync Module inside your home connected to the wifi to connect to the cameras.

Only downside if I can remember is that if you are not paying for a subscription it won't tell you if it's a human movement or something like that, it will just record all general movement regardless of if it's a human or not. Which is honestly fine. You can also put 'blackout' zones on the app if there is plants or something similar that is always moving that you don't want to be picked up.

          • @unhuman: where else do you put doorbells in your chimney for santa lol

  • How much is subscription per camera per month?
    Thanks

  • +4

FYI. These cameras have pretty crap image quality. I don't think they are worth more than about $20 each. The night shot is virtually unuseable.

    • I disagree. I have had these for a few months. If placed correctly they provide good resolution images. No you can't see a 100 meters away.

      • +3

I’m not talking about resolution. They are 1080 which is fine, but the image rendering is trash and it’s way too noisey. Think iphone 3g from 2008. Any cheap doorbell camera from Amazon will flog these for image quality. And thats for daytime images. The night images are even worse.

        • OZBers get these at $20 per camera or lower (after cashback). Sync module 2 and sync module cloud are basically $10 each (or lower).

Image quality and night vision is at 1080p camera level. No 1080p surveillance camera has great image quality or super duper night vision.

          • @netsurfer: "No 1080p surveillance camera has great image quality or super duper night vision." if you really think that you need to get out and try some more.
These things at just $27 and are worlds apart better than Blink camera image quality day and night @1080. In fact they are insanely good at that price.

            • @pauliau: those are not battery operated outdoor cameras are they?

            • @pauliau: Can you clarify why some people are claiming they have issues getting C200 to work at 1080p 30fps and indicating they can only get 15fps to work? Are all C200 cameras capable of doing 1080p@30fps or that's revision / batch dependent?

In the reviews I saw (done a few years back), C200 seems to feel like 15fps. If so, that trades shutter speed for more light and/or allow the use of a weaker chipset / CPU. Furthermore, for v3.x, the official datasheet is claiming 15fps.

              From Android Police review:

The TP-Link Tapo C200 offers pan-and-tilt functionality for optimal viewing and records video in 1080p HD at 15fps.

My concern / question is about this new revision. If it does address the issue, then people who had older revisions are not going to be happy. What if people still end up getting v3.x? Then, again, this is not the first time TP-Link does hardware spec change like this. It's annoying because TP-Link does have a tendency to do a fire sale on the older model and stop updating the firmware on them.

              • @netsurfer: I have the c211 version which run 2K @ 25fps. They are silky smooth for me (considering its rating). Im sure it also depends on how good your network/signal is though. Maybe if bandwidth is limited they drop to a lower fps.

    • With my front door the night camera looks fine to be honest. I haven't ever had any other security cameras so I can't really compare but if people walk up night vision shows the face clearly etc. It's not 4K resolution but it works for the price.

  • Again I respectfully disagree. Image quality even at night (with small sensor light) is quite good.

  • Bought $132 5 camera system with 20% cashback during Black Friday weekend, but the day after noticed $139 is more value as you get additional door bell + core module (which doesn't have local storage) but the door bell still works with sync module 2 which comes with the 5 cameras. Sync module 2 has local usb storage. Image quality is decent but I'm still using free 30 day cloud storage with no usb drive yet attached to my sync module 2 - so I'm yet to experience app issues on accessing local storage. I'm not willing to pay $15 a month sub, but it is indeed pretty smooth so far with free 30 day trial sub.
I'll be returning earlier purchased just 5packs of cameras for $132 - also it was noticed at the time even Bunnings showed it at $132 without marking it as clearance, so this could be the new normal price?

    • +1

The 3 camera system was cheaper before cashback ($75) than the 5 camera system before for some weird reason. Are you sure you paid $132 (before cashback)? I thought the 5 camera system would be cheaper around Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

      5 cameras + doorbell (after 15% cashback): ~120.05
Your 5 cameras (after 20% cashback): 107.91 (assuming it was $132)
3 cameras (after 20% cashback): 64.77 (November price)

Once the subscription runs out, I am anticipating viewing footage after being notified would be slower and all the smart detection features will be gone. My subscription is still active. You will notice that once you activate your 5 cameras + doorbell system, your 30 day trial reset (so you get another 30 days). I found that out because I bought multiple packs.

I went with doorbell + blink mini 2 combination because the Blink mini cameras can be used as doorbell chimes. Blink mini 2 is wired though, also it is no longer the latest model. Amazon discount Blink products throughout the years. Keeps getting cheaper.

      • Agree there was a $15 code redeemed from $132. So basically it's not $7 difference but $22 for the doorbell (before any cashbacks), still good value I think as the door bell was on sale for $40+ at the time.
I bought a pair of blink 2s as well to plug in internally where power outlets are available, and a couple of more outdoor ones will be internally placed to keep track of my cat's whereabouts when I'm not home :) I like the fact that all cameras can be "armed" in one tap, previously on tapo wired cams I was doing each (maybe I didn't know how to do it, and didn't bother to until I saw the feature in blink app)

    • I read cashback is not on Blink devices even tho it’s owned by Amazon

      • They did track at Amazon devices level (i.e. 20% during Black Friday and other promotions) for me.

        • Yer it will Track but TA stated somewhere on here that it’s no eligible unfortunately

          • +1

@Twisty: Amazon did provide 20% cashback for my Blink camera purchase back in 30 August 2025. If Amazon no longer does that, then it would be good for both TopCashback and Shopback to update their systems.

        • Mine too, guess only time will tell!

  • Can you access recordings on the sync module with USB ? or do I have to put it in a computer to access?

    • You can access them through mobile app. However, it is faster to access cloud footage (subscription required) than "local" storage through app. That was done intentionally by Blink and the app doesn't really have a local network mode.

  • I’m currently using a couple of Eufy E220 2K Pan & Tilt cameras and just noticed one camera always going offline. Have to pull power to get it to connect again then it goes offline in a bit requiring the same fix, real pain!

Can you use this Blink system inside? I would want one where I can connect a USB hard drive to it for local storage but confused if the 5 pack with doorbell works like that?

    Are these camera reliable?

    • Go for these -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/938676
No brainer at that price. They are fantastic cameras

      • Tapo C200 is also a downgrade. Pan and Tilt is average (can be a bit jerky). It also looks / feels cheap. I have a C210 and I won't be getting anymore C200 or C210 cameras.

        • Its not a downgrade at just $27! Been using the C210 and C200 for well over a year in a harsh outdoor environment and only had one lockup once. Reboot fixed it. Certainly they arn't Eufy build quality but look at the price diff.

          • @pauliau: It is a downgrade (inferior resolution, no Apple Homekit support, activity zone only works with basic motion detection). The current deal is only the cheapest if you buy 1 (there were better deals if you buy more).

No point hyping up cameras you own. Most of the surveillance cameras are fairly average and have plenty of room to improve. 1080p cameras, they are mostly toys.

            • @netsurfer: No point arguing with tools.. Pretty simple, if you want a cheap decent simple cam that is usable. Get one of these for $27. If you want high resolution, Apple Homekit support, activity zone with advanced motion detection, yada yada yada, go and spend $350/cam and be happy…

              • @pauliau: The $27 camera is okay, but not fantastic. Eufy E220 2K Pan & Tilt camera, my mate got one for $47. Homekit support is important for his family.
C200, ideally, you want to get the latest revision. All these 1080p cameras are hardware limited so it doesn't use the most efficient video codec. You get what you paid for, so no point hyping up 1080p cameras. They are cheap for a reason.

C200 has a new revision, now the question is will C210 eventually get a similar new revision? If yes, is it still a good time to buy C210? I assume these TP-Link C200 cameras are the latest revision, not an attempt to dump the old stock / revision.

Blink Outdoor 4 cameras are best used outdoor and they use batteries (so they are not designed for 24x7, only motion detection events). Blink Mini 2 is the indoor one. There is a new version Blink Mini 2K+, but no discount. With Blink setup, you still need decent WiFi (video footage is transmitted using WiFi).

Eufy E220 2K is better in many ways, better resolution, no subscription needed, Apple Homekit support, Pan & Tilt etc… Have you tried changing the positions of the two cameras (just to rule out it is a WiFi signal issue)? If you want reliability, then wired / PoE would be best. Try to fix the issue with your Eufy E220 cameras.

The advantage of buying from Amazon is that you can return it before Jan 30, 2026 if you don't like it. However, do bear in mind that during the 30 day free Blink subscription trial, you do get much better experience. Smart detections and much faster video footage viewing can be misleading. When you have active subscription, the sync module 2 only serves as a daily backup of video footage. Without subscription, that's when you notice it is slow.

      • Yer the Eufy camera is right next to my Eero Wifi device, approx 1m away from it

Have pulled power but after awhile it just doesn’t connect when I try to view it on my iPhone

        • Have you tried swapping the two cameras (to see if it is that spot)? Would you know whether it happens when the camera needs to renew its DHCP address lease?

Most mesh and routers show you a list of clients connected. When you cannot see the camera from your iPhone app, does that camera still have WiFi connection to the router?

          • @netsurfer: Yes when I can’t connect to it via my iPhone I can still see it on my wifi list as active on the eero app

When it does connect via a reboot by pulling the power it’s slower than my other Eufy camera. Both in connecting to it by phone and when viewing it on phone if I walk past it it’s a lot more delayed then the other one

            • @Twisty: I assume you already tried deleting the camera from the app and adding it back in. Probably need to contact Eufy to get a warranty replacement.

If you want to try Blink, you really need to lower your expectation (and prepare to return it if you don't like it). Scrimshaw reported issue getting cameras added to Sync Module 2 (slow and took multiple attempts) and he felt Blink seems to get inferior Amazon AWS servers. Without subscription, the experience would be even worse. I didn't have issue adding cameras to my sync module 2, but the fact some people encountered issues is a concern.

From what you described (you want reasonably quick notification for an event), if you intend to use Blink without subscription, then Blink is probably not for you. My usage for Blink cameras is that slightly delayed notifications are fine and I don't need 24x7 monitoring in those areas (I have PoE cameras in important areas). Even for indoor, those PoE cameras would have sent the alerts already.
