Skin on air fryers my favourite

  • +4

can you put them in the oven?

    • +20

      Well, it is not illegal.

      • +4

        Let’s find out in court.

    • +3

An "air fryer" is just a small oven

      • True, just a windy one..

Anyone found a really good chicken salt? Ive tried several brands but not quite the same

    • +7

I was on a quest for this years ago.. I concluded the good ones aren't sold in supermarkets.

      • +2

That is true. No super market sell you the good stuff.

I will start trying butchers, but I see most chiken salt products are just added parika or garlic.

        • thanks good idea

oh i think red lea uses paprika also

      • oh thanks

    • +8

anchor chippy chicken salt is pretty good

      • thanks havnt tried that one but tried mitani and nice and tasty

    • +1

      Try Atomic chicken salt

      • hehe thanks, i like the logo

    • Not chicken salt but try a mix that’s half regular salt and half msg (chicken salt originally had msg in it)

      • oh thanks

      • +2

Just add MSG to Mitani and Nice n Tasty and you've got the same stuff as the original chicken salts used at chicken shops.

    • +1

      I use this stuff

      https://www.shanez.com.au/product-page/kentucky-style-chicke…

But they’ve got other chicken salt types but I’ve not tried them.

      • oh wow didnt even know those kinds chicken salt existed thanks

    • I like this one, can be had cheaper from Costco - https://www.amazon.com.au/NICE-N-TASTY-Chicken-Seasoning/dp/…

      • thanks, im pretty sure that brand near the 2000s was in like a different way smaller size packaging with different sprinkle holes. but not 100% sure, it had a similar chef logo

but yes i had tried maybe years ago from costco still didnt finish it lol, i put it somewhere

Krio Krush The Original Flavon Chicken Salt - this is the best chicken salt I have had.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Krio-Krush-Chicken-Salt-800gm/dp/B…

      • thanks so many brands to try haha

      • This is the one a lot of chip shops use

        • Great i gotta try it then

        • Insider information? Lol

        • I've never been to a chip shop. What one's are you referring to?

    • +1

Try Shanez kentucky style chicken salt found on Ebay. Delicious and a little bit like KFC's.

      • Oh nice thanks

      • In FatsoBasto I trust 🤩
        Thanks mate 😁

    • I conceded to the Nice n Tasty one.. the Anchor one I tried this week and it is not for me.

I think the Mitani one is ok also but have not had for awhile.

But yeah plus one to Nice N Tasty for me.

      • Oh thanks i found nice n tasty average for som reason, i remember it was quite large and on clearance

        • Yeah it is average for me also. Anchor I did not like but the packaging looked like it might be alright but I rank it worse than Nice n Tasty. I can't remember if Mitani or Nice n Tasty was better will have to get some maybe this week or next.

Spuds coming down a little in price again… they were the same price in coles last week, not too bad as a quick pre-made side if you prefer canola oil over olive/duck fat, skin on is decent.

  • I find these hollow mostly inside not much potato.i prefer the bluebird range much more .

  • +3

Tried these a few times but never got a good result in the air fryer. Even worse in the oven.

the best one is vegeta always a hit at the table

    • I cook the chips for a few minutes so they're damp from being thawed out, then add the Vegeta, then continue cooking - that way it actually sticks to the chips, dont usually need to add anything after they're cooked.

      • This works really well. Wait for them to thaw out, then shake chips vigorously in a container or saucepan with a lid so that they are "roughed up" then add your seasoning. Then cook.

        • Yep I do this but all in the air fryer basket. Also sometimes I'll hit them with a mist of used frying oil before adding the vegeta - it sticks even better plus the oil adds extra flavour.

Bought the steak cut fries yesterday they aren't that great imo, don't really crisp up at all would just get the normal fries that Mccain sells.

  • +3

Branding them as air fryer chips because people dont know other chips work too!

    • +2

Ha ha yeah like the various Panadol versions a few years ago - back pain Panadol, period pain Panadol etc… they were all just the same thing but cost more than the plain stuff…

      • I know. I used to watch the chasers war on everything and the checkout =>

  • +1

I tried this, its really good for 10 minutes, though its best if you do a bit more and really make sure you dont overload it. Skin on is excellent.

    • I have an older style Kmart air fryer with the rotating cage and it usually does chips great with whatever suggested time, just had these yesterday and today and found to get them to a good point it was 20 minutes instead of the suggested 13, wonder if they are different in some way cause they're not cooking very fast

      • I've found those are indirect heat which means things just take longer in general.

      • I've had the rotating cage models and the standard basket ones, and man, the basket models are always so much better. You've just gotta make sure to toss them once or twice about 2/3rds through.

  • Half serious comment. Tried the steak cut ones once, but if you have false teeth, put them in before eating these chips. They have sharp ends that crisp to a knife like edge:)

  • Aldi thick cut fries turns out pretty decent in air frier.

  • I have tried these and would not get them again. They take longer to crisp up and arent as nice as say Mccain's beer batter fries.

  • +1

Did they just slap the words 'air fryer' on some normal chips to get a sale or are these in some way different to oven fries?

    • +1

      Marketing

    • While its possible they're the same chips just packaged differently, for them to get repeat customers and profits, McCain would have to differentiate the taste. My guess is they add more oil and changed the coating so they crisp better in the air fryer because the default instructions for other chips is to fry them in oil.

  • I had this and it was nasty. Tastes like dry cardboard.

  • These are not salted which is odd. Bland. You have to coat in oil and salt before cooking. They are ok if you do this. I think they make the WW one.

  • +1

Maggi Rich gravy mix is pretty good with chips.

  • $2.90 is a good price. I like these chips. Except the rotten black bits at the end, and in the bottom of the bag.

  • look at all those ingredient numbers
