Hey everyone, I'm looking to get a mid-range laptop for both university/general usage, tasks including coding, light gaming and usual web browsing.
The Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition, stacked with 15% cashback caught my eye, but wanted to see if there are better or cheaper alternatives with similar specs.
Minimum/Preferred requirements:
- 14″ display (IPS or OLED)
- Lightweight
- Good battery life
- 16GB RAM minimum
- All-metal build
- Decent CPU

There are some Yoga Pro's in the outlet that might fit your requirements. Main difference between Pro v Slim is that they feature more powerful CPU (but there's a trade-off in weight)

You can also get the older generation Yoga Pro 7 (14", Gen 8) AMD 7840HS / WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS (1.44kgs / 3.17lbs) for $1,155.35, which is a lot cheaper than Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition but be aware it's slightly heavier and the CPU isn't as power efficient.

Open to a MacBook Pro 14" (or MacBook Air 13" / 15" if the 14" isn't strict) or sticking to Windows?

Nothing on the market that beats the value Macbooks are offering. The M chips are phenomenal. Macbrook pro on sale can be achieved for $1500-1600. It also meets all your requirements.

Yes agreed. I was looking for it. But I have to say, I've gone between Mac and windows for 20 years and the m series Macs blow my windows experience out of the water.
Wake up it's not 2015 anymore… Fanboy is a convenient label when the benchmarks are inconvenient. The M chips have been outperforming equivalent Intel and AMD laptops on efficiency, thermals, and sustained performance since day one. They deliver desktop-like power on battery, barely throttle under load, and still manage all-day runtime, something most Windows laptops in the same price bracket can’t get near.
If pointing out an objectively superior product qualifies as being a ‘fanboy,’ then the bar for technical literacy must be set pretty low on your end
Most people dont want a 256GB HDD and Mac OS that cant run any of their software.
Buy a refubished Lenovo T14. Often come with 1 year warranty. Just check your getting a newer generation for the updated graphics card and get 16GB (or greater) RAM - Be careful as they solder the RAM to the board on some of the models.
If you're after a Windows laptop, I'd suggest looking at the lenovo education store for some deals.

I got a lenovo yoga a couple of yrs ago, seems lenovo got a bad name recently but for me its been excellent, easy to install any os, ive had linux, etc, even win xp on it, as i like to tinker, it is very forgiving re drivers, it worked after every boot with no xtra drivers installed, only drivers I could not find was trackpad, but a mouse helps :)
