Was about to jump on the Lexar Ares 4tb for 379 on ebay but went out of stock. Was looking around and came across this drive for $436.5.

Steps
Edu Store
Hop on the chat, share a samsung serial number and they'll give you a 10% off code on the regular store. But it works for 5% on other stores.
The 5% off on first order. Will give you the final price in title.

I scored a couple of drives in 2023 for mid 250s, so this seems way higher. Only recommended to people who are building PCs after black friday sales.

wtf, why is is out of stock on the goverment Samsung store?

    • Try clearing cookies. And use the search instead of browsing.

      • It's not a cookies issue. Samsung AU is OSS of the 4TB with heatsink model. Major lack of stock.

Shows up for me in search. Able to add to cart and checkout.
Not sure what's happening at your end, sorry.

          • @bruhminister: Yeah i see. That's the non heatsink version. It's the normal version which comes with no heatsink included. Designed to be installed on say motherboards with a heatsink over the M.2 slot. No good if you want to use it in the PS5 however having no heatsink. You can tell by the product photo. That one is in stock.

What's happening on my end is. I'm talking about the heatsink version not being in stock. It's the version if say you want to use it in the PS5 out of the box as it already has a heatsink on it.

    • Is this the model with heatsink?. There must be a lack of stock in Australia. Shows just the where to buy button which means no stock left.

      • I don't think I've seen the heatsink variant in stock for a long time.

        • The global SSD chip shortage must be hitting hard. Samsung must be having issues resupplying it.

  • Are SSDs good for storing surveillance camera recordings?
    Thanks

Absolutely not advised. You could do it but not the most cost effective medium.. every physical media has a finite TBW (terabytes written) rating, which means how many TBs can be written during its life.. since surveillance is an ongoing recording that continuously overwrites data, your TBWs are gonna rack up pretty fast.. so, something like a WD Purple hard disk is usually suggested.. you could get a 12tb ish drive for this price..
This drive is both overkill and not suitable for your use case.

      • Thank you.
Do SD cards have the same issue with SSDs?

        • +1

Yes, for devices that only take SD cards like dash cams you have to use special "endurance" cards but even then they still have a finite lifespan compared to hard disks

  • About the loyalty code, do they give it to you every time you chat with them, or is it possible they might say no?

    • They will give it to you if they have the code.

  • Not in stock? Am I missing something?

Gone are the days of 4tb for $300 I guess

  • Anyone know if they’ll restock the 990s with Heatsink. Did some research and it states that if it were to come back it show “ in stock soon” rather than “where to buy”. Perhaps someone can shed further light

    • The way there's a NAND chip supply shortage due to AI data centres well that may be some time. But don't expect cheap prices if it comes back in stock. A few months ago would have been the time to buy a new SSD. I'm just glad i got my Transcend 2TB NVMe SSD from Amazon in October while it was about $210. I guess i did alright with that.

  • is this totally out of stock on the samsung store now ?
