Free Priority Pass Membership for Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard Cardholders
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849938

    • Does this Qantas Altitude Black qualify for the Priority Pass Membership?

      • -1

It doesn't, I called them last month to check. Qantas Altitude Black cardholder gets 2 lounge access passes after making valid Qantas flight purchase through this card.

        • +3

Hmm, it should work. It did for me.

You can try signing up for Priority Pass (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849938 ) and see what happens. If it works it shouldn’t cost you anything.

        • And I think you have to register via the portal before spending the money.

        • +1

          it works

        • It certainly does. Received my card a few months ago thanks to that OB post.

      • Sadly, looks like there no equivalent offer for the Velocity version of the card…

    • +3

Works even if you have cancelled your Westpac card! ;)

      • oh yeah, what? I used my 2 visits and cancelled my card 6mo ago, just opened the app and I have 2 new visits.

      • I think they still ask for your credit card when you visit the lounge? Can you provide any other credit card while entering?

  • I held St George Altitude Black previously, did that make me ineligible for this?

      • What about St. George Amplify? Can’t find anything in the Westpac T&C about excluding it.

Offer not available if you've held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 24 months. T&Cs apply.

          • @AnyFurtherDiscount: Any sauce for that?

            • +9

              @turkz1:

Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 24 months, are not eligible for this offer.

              That's westpac only.

              St George terms have this:

Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 24 months, or Credit Card Product Switches, upgrades or Westpac group staff are not eligible for this offer.

You are good to go on this card @Rob123. Enjoy

            • -3

              @turkz1:

              Any sauce for that?

You could try soy, or maybe sririacha?

      • -2

First, it's paid to read the T&C's

        Second, Westpac <> StG

        • -2

          how much is it paid?

        • +2

Read the t&c twice. When do I get paid and is it double now?

    • Reading through the T&C, it does not state SGB cards make you ineligible? Better to check.

    • I was approved in Dec2025 after closing a previous Westpac Altitude Black in Jan2025
      YMMV

      • Wait, you closed and reapply same card within 1yr? Technically, it was less than 12 months apart. You won't get any bonus points.

        • 24 months

  • +1

Only if they didn't have 24 months my period.

  • +1

I am planning to get two credit cards in the coming weeks. 1) Low fee cards with and without cashback offers. 2) Where I can get FF points which I can use for travelling. For the first one, I have narrowed it down to some cards like Bendigo Ready, ANZ Platinum. Any suggestions on the FF points card?

    • +8

Are you familiar with pointhacks.com.au? Have a look there, it has all the info you need.

      • +3

Oh wow. I didnt know this one…I knew only rwrds.com.au. Thanks for sharing. Will have a look

    • +1

Basically this Qantas black card now has $75 fee only which is pretty low fee. It also earns 90k bonus points. Basically it's 2-in-1 for what you are looking for.

The 2 cards you narrowed down are nowhere as good as this westpac one, even if you have both of them conbined.

Also, you should not apply 2 cards in a row. The applications should be spaced out

Just aplly the Westpac black one. You can keep it if you need the card for everyday use, but remember to close it off within 12 months before the renewal..

    • +2

I am planning to get two credit cards in the coming weeks.

I usually apply for 2-4 cards at a time. I try to make it as simultaneous as possible, but in some cases there has been up to 48 hours between applications and that's been fine. The credit reporting agencies don't appear to update that fast.

Any suggestions on the FF points card?

That depends on which FF scheme(s) you are most interested in, and what other factors you take into consideration - credit limits, the size of the bonus offer, the amount of annual fees and/or program fees you're willing to pay, other benefits like lounge passes or travel insurance, preferred banks, etc.

This Westpac offer for existing customers is understandably very popular.

Qantas AmEx Ultimate: 70,000 Qantas Pts ($3,000 Spend in 3 Months), $450 Qantas Travel Credit, $450 Anl Fee @ American Express is great … if you can get it. Amex are infamous for rejections. But if you can get it, the $450 travel credit can be gamed, effectively zeroing the $450 annual fee.

HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Star Alliance Gold Status (with $4,000 Minimum Spend in 90 Days), $0 Annual Fee First Year is also popular for *A gold status after meeting the spend requirement.

Any cooldown periods? Had this one until a few months ago.

    • +7

      2 years…

      • +1

ugh! i thought the usual 18 months was bad.

        • +3

the usual is now 24 months for all the big banks

          • @realaccount627465746: Yes.
Amex still on 18mth cool down.

No cool down specified from HSBC

            • @timhn: amex doesn't mean much since they will reject you if they even think you might be a churner so the cooldown is kinda irrelevant

  • +4

Had to click on the above link to get the $0 annual fee offer.
Manually applying via my online account only offered a reduced $200 annual fee on the Black

  • Slightly peeved they decided to drop the fee since I recently got this. Good deal.

    • I got this last week :( very sad face.

      • I got it last week fee free.

        • -1

          Lies :D :D
          I'm just jealous :'(

  • +12

This feels like the first fee free deal in a while, haven't churned for a while

    • Still $75 Qantas fee though?

  • +2

Does anyone know if I sign up to an everyday account now, will I have access to this deal?

    • Also interested

      • Yes

    • Yes, you can get the 50 AUD bonus as well

      • I just get stuck in a continual loop telling me to update my personal details :(

        • +3

I had that issue recently (this deal is actually a dupe and the last one got merged to the previous one so most people didn't see it) and just had to wait 3 or 4 days and it eventually worked. So just keep trying from time to time.

Edit: this is the dupe that got marked expired (not sure why though as it is the exact same as this one and I used it 2 weeks ago): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909385

        • Same! did you manage to get through?

    • Wondering the same - would it be possible to sign up to everyday account, then open the fee free credit card, then close the everyday account (don't need it and don't want to have to juggle criteria to qualify for fee-free banking - i.e. $5 monthly fee for the everyday account). Would this be possible?

      • I’ve just been looking into this, it sounds like we’d be eligible for the $50 bonus on that card and also no monthly fees for the first year. I don’t usually keep the credit card for that long so I’d probably look to close both upon getting all my bonuses

        • -1

the $50 bonus is sweet but I am a bit more concerned about maintaining the fee free requirement which usually requires depositing $2000 in to the account every month etc . probably a minor inconvenience more than anything..

  • Anyone knows that if I am a member of WBC alumni, am I eligible for the bonus points?

    • Everyone is eligible if you meet the criteria

  • What's the best deal around at the moment for new card chasing QFF point sign on bonus for non existing customers?

    • +1

This one by the looks of it.

Just open a free Westpac debit account and then you'll be considered an existing customer.

  • 0 Fee for first year! That is great :)

    • +4

still need to pay the $75 qantas fee, so its actually $75 first year

      • Yea, but it is still very good. about 70% saving in fees

      • +2

what if we already got a existing QFF

  • Still have black rewards. Eligible?

    • +1

Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 24 months, are not eligible for this offer.

  • I got rejected for this Westpac card in September with no good reason stated. Is it worth applying again or will that cause me issues? Since then I successfully received and have been paying off a NAB card.

    • I got rejected a few months ago, I posted about this in the previous thread on this card: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16920875/redir

So depending on your circumstances, may be worth putting in a complaint with them.

      • +1

Good to know for next time, thanks. Seems a bit far gone now that I’m not sure what would happen with the offer for bonus points…

    • Best to call them espcially if your finances are a bit more complex than just PAYG income and mortgage.

      • I called several times and despite them saying everything was fine, it eventually got rejected with no reason

  • +6

QFF fee is such a rort.

  • +3

This is not a new offer but a glitched offer - but yes can still take advantage of it if you can get pass all the errors (many have experienced errors when starting the application including me in the same offer posted a while back) and have it approved.

Westpac is notorious for making your application difficult, in addition to the usual, I was asked for my investment properties account statements, rental statements, loan documents and leases. I ended up withdrawing as it was too much hassel and they were asking more documents than my mortgage lenders…

    • +1

Yep I just went through all this with them with an investment property. Took over a week of back and forth until it was finally approved.

    • How did you get past the errors?

I get an error saying to update my contact details. I do that and then I get put back at the start of the application and asks to update my contact details again. It is just a loop and doesnt work.

      • Replied to someone above with the same thing.

        • I originally couldn't get past the errors, when I did it just gave me a different landing page for the Velocity Black that has a $200 first year fee for existing customers. As I needed a new card I
applied and was approved in 2 days, which might have been faster if Westpac's syncing with Commbank had worked, instead I had to provide payslips and a bank transaction statement.
          Just enrolled in Priority Pass.

          • +1

@VladImpaler: I had the errors as well for the Altitude Rewards Black. I open a choice account to get the $0 first year offer on the same day. Then I got an error saying my number and address needs updating. Got it fixed by calling Westpac as seems like my application defaulted my address and number as secondary rather than primary contact. Once that was fixed, I was able to proceed with application but had an issue with login to my HSBC to verify bank statements. Had to then manually upload payslip, bank statement and other documents. After couple of days my card approved, but it could have been triggered by me calling them up as I wanted to check something I have uploaded to them.

  • +1

Has anyone that is not working tried applying for a cc and got approved if their Income from investments eg rental, saving interest etc.. meets their income requirement?

    • Would like to know this

  • My wife application is still pending review despite given all required docs and id verification plus complaint. Been more than 2 weeks now. Still under review.

  • Unfortunately I'm locked out until Feb 2026 (closed Feb 2024), hopefully the reduced annual fee will still be active in Feb. I'm currently a Westpac customer (have a mortgage with them).

Also important to note that they've reduced the minimum credit limit for this card to $6k. It used to be $15k to match other bank's premium offerings.

  • I currently have Altitude Velocity Black Card. I can still apply for this without waiting period right?

    • +1

Are you referring to the bonus points? You will not receive them because all the Altitude credit cards share the same exclusion period.

Edit: After reading the terms and conditions, it doesn't seem to specify Altitude Qantas/Velocity, it just says: Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card.

I just assumed Altitude Platinum/Black included all the cards that fell under that category (Altitude/Qantas/Velocity).

I would contact Westpac first just to be sure before you apply (I don't expect their CSR will be very knowledgeable either to be honest, you'll probably have to ask to be transferred to a specialist who handles credit cards).

      • Yeah. I previously had NAB Qantas and Velocity within few months period and got bonus points for both.

So just wondering it applies here as well as the exclusion doesn't say anything about Altitude Velocity

        • +1

Saw this listed under the westpac velocity card - so would seem they have excluded regardless of card type

“Offer not available if you’ve held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 24 months. New cards only. T&Cs apply“

  • Just a note for anyone who needs this for a large purchase they're making soon, I applied for this card in late June and it took over a month until August for my application to be approved, they seemed to be pretty understaffed.

    • +1

Just depends on luck, I applied a few weeks ago and got approved in 2 days, I could activate digital card and add to google pay instantly after approval. This is the quickest I have applied and had access to the card.

  • Pretty annoying, tried opening an everyday account to avail the fee free credit card offer but because I previously held a Westpac account (~circa 2018), they won't be able to open the account online and rather have to visit a branch. Banks and their archaic ways of business…….

    • +1

I had the exact same issue and visited the Westpac branch. Turns out my Customer ID from that time was still valid, and all I had to do was reset my password. They also told me, that I was considered an existing customer, even though I had no active account at the moment. I still opened a new Choice account online (not in the branch) and earned $50 on that too.
