Terraforming Mars $57 (In Store Only) @ EB Games

800

Looks like the cheapest price ever seen on Ozbargain!

The website lists it at $9,999, so not sure what that means for stock availability, but I went in store and found it with a sale sticker for $57 while browsing.

Bought the only copy at Glendale NSW.

I assume stock will be limited. Happy hunting!

Great game, a bit overwhelming at start with all the pieces. I picked this up at Vinnie's with 3 expansions for $40.

  • Parts are pretty cheap for board games around this price tag

    • As in the quality of the pieces is low? I haven't opened it yet, but given the reviews on BGG I'm inclined to think that the game is worth playing even if the pieces are slightly sub-par. Do you think it's not worth it?

      • From what little I've read, the actual board is a real let down. It's a single layer board and if you knock the board you can send your cubes sliding around which can totally ruin your game.

If I can get the base game really cheap (like in this deal) and get some 3rd party double layer boards it should be fine. I'm also going to look at the new game they are bringing out. Terraforming Mars: The Legacy of Mars should be on gamefound early next year.

I own this board game and it's one of my favourites.

It's definitely worth it at this price, but I can confirm the player boards are terrible… Single layer card stock boards and the pieces that you put on top to mark things can slide around with just a small bump. It's ridiculously poor design.

Either you just have to be careful, or if you or your board game buddies are the clumsy type, then you'd best buy aftermarket player boards like this. (Please shop around though - I just linked to the first search result that came up on Amazon AU.)

        • if u get the expanded version the player cards are light years better with indents to put your cube in.

i just have no idea which expansion adds that.

fantastic game though, even with the frustrating game board. easily one of my most beloved.

I see what you mean. Sounds like a good test case for my new 3d printer hehe.

I assume something like this will do the trick.

          • @themadman: Fantastic game. One of our favourites. We printed those overlays as per @themadman and it makes the game much easier to manage the pieces.

This is a rare situation where the counterfeit copies are of (slightly) higher quality than the original.

        • Agree - my counterfeit is still going strong after years and many games.

      • I believe it was made in USA instead of China and it was difficult to keep the cost down.

The board felt cheap as it was just a single thin card board that needed to house a few cubes for tracking is not great. One minor bump on the table and its going to be quite a bother to continue. They should have gone with a thick card board with indents.

The cubes are…fine, but compared to a lot of other games, it still feel very cheap.

The card design while subjective felt like it wasn't done by an artist

Good game. I like the Prelude expansion, which speeds it up a bit.

I'm not a big fan of expansions (often just add unnecessary complexity) but I the Prelude expansion is a must IMO.

      • Colonies is also good, but not a "must" like the Prelude expansion is.

  • I was wondering what happened to the game. I've been waiting for EB Games to clear it but it disappeared from the online store.

    • There are a lot in-store, at least every EB physical store I visited had it in stock.

      • The stores I have been looking at did not have it in stock any more.

      • It was at the store I went to. Got it for $39.90.

  • aww wish this was a video game, love the concept

    • There is a video game version on steam.

  • There is a video version that ou can play with AI or muliplayer or solo mode, also on sale https://store.steampowered.com/app/800270/Terraforming_Mars/. Helps with some of the fiddliness and setup

    • It is much harder than in real life. The game does not allow you to change your mind when you tried to play a card and realised you don't have enough of something

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_IL6cSfdA0 is a must-see this holidays.

  • Hmm why are there people selling this for $100 on FB Marketplace?

  • I got it in a local farmer's market for $40 I think, great game but needs patience.

Some legend recreated the game online in browser and it's a pretty great way to play with friends remotely and customise the game. Recommend learning the game on board first though
