@electroz, I recommend getting the pack with DJI RC2 controller. No phone needed!

      • Cool, didn't know about this one. Ta.

My drone cost me the same as the remote though 🤯

        • +1

No worries! Yeah, best value is in a pack.

Keep an eye on the second hand market though, as you can often pick them up for half the RRP of the RC2 on its own.

Just make sure you get the right type that is compatible with your drone, as there are a couple of versions: an RC (internal antennas) and RC2 (external / fold out antennas).

  • Isn’t this causing issues being just over the 250g weight limit?

    • not issue, you just need to get a permit

      • +1

isn't permits for only business use, for personal use being under 2 KG, afaik permits aren't required.

      https://www.casa.gov.au/knowyourdrone/drone-rules

If your drone weighs more than 250 g, you must not fly within 5.5 km of a controlled airport (airports with control towers). If it’s 250 g or less, you can fly up to 45 m high within 5.5 km but stay out of the airport boundary and don’t create hazards for other aircraft. Regardless of weight, stay clear of the runway approach and departure paths.

      • +1

Yeah 5.5km puts a lot of inner city in the no go zone.

Better to play it safe and get a sub 250g

the biggest actual issue is that now it's always transmitting a remote ID, meaning anyone with a phone can track your drone and your location where the drone took off from.
You can get Karened real hard.
Mini 4 Pro only transmits it with the plus battery.

      • Can you give us so more details on how you track the drones? Is it an app or something?

        • -1

What have you typed into Google to find the answer?

      • Waaa, for real?

  • this vs the new Neo 2? thinking the Neo is a bit cheaper and has the 'crash-cages' around the props, so slightly more durable?

    • +2

The Neo2 is a lot of fun and can fit in your pocket. Great with goggles and can do some acro. Really useful hand gestures.

The Mini 5 is much better camera. More a drone for good quality cinematic footage

There is also the Avata 360 coming out very soon. Hopefully an announcement in next 2 weeks.

Probably more expensive than both but a great FPV drone with 360 filming can make some spectacular footage.

I have the Mini 3 and decided on the Neo 2, which between the 2 do everything I'll need, and about $1k cheaper than going with the 5 pro.
The Neo 2 is amazing. Its so damn small, can be brought alone without controller (handy for me as I use it with cycling trips) and is extremely good with obstacle avoidance. Camera is not as great as 5 pro or the 3 but its pretty damn close. The only thing I dont like about it is no MicroSD storage (48gb internal storage only)
