I wanted to buy a quest but always hesitated because its made by meta, the advertising company.

The announced Steam Frame looks promising and Im happy to give this a chance in the future.
    Valves 2 big claims.
    1) it can play most of your Steam library of non-VR games.
    2) its designed to be the best wireless PCVR streaming headset.

It is still maintained by oculus crew and essentially android device you can hack and side load stuff. I do hate fb garbage, but it doesnt really interfer with me and this device just works

I presume that the option 1 would be like a virtual desktop

Yeah it plays it on a big screen like other VR headsets I guess.

Interesting thing on the Steam Frame page:

Steam Frame is a PC, and runs SteamOS powered by a Snapdragon® 8 Series Processor. With 16GB of RAM, Steam Frame supports stand-alone play on a growing number of both VR and non-VR games without needing to stream from your PC.

This is why Valve been investing in x86 to ARM translation tech lately, interesting. I wonder if they are going to be launching this on the Mac lineup too, would be a very good way to capture the market by providing the storefront, launcher & translation layer all in one.
