Florsheim junk nowadays. Used to have a good rep but ofc you know what happens…

    • same as hush puppy? yeah when some random store selling them i know something fishy.. no offense OP sorry we are tough market

    • Any good brands with the same price ranges?? Cheers

      • what's your definition of good? nothing in this price range is going to be exceptional quality

these shoes are about as cheap as it gets, before going into spendless and kmart territory

when it comes to shoes, you do get what you pay for, although there's also a point of diminishing returns

correct dont cheap out on shoes you only have two feet

@McMaferMur: The problem is that paying more is no guarantee. Even the cheap junk shoes these days can be costly.

        • So what should I be looking at? In terms of price range and brands? Newbie here. Thanks

  • I used to wear these and agree that they've gone down hill.

Just buy a pair of RM's and get 5-6 years.

Unfortunately not anymore, closer to 3-4 years these days and that's if you maintain them. RMs really have gone downhill my oldest pair is over 10 years and still going strong with only the occasional conditioning. The leather on newer pairs are noticeably thinner and don't last. Not worth the 700rrp at all imo.

Correct. Basically the same you know what happened with RMW

      • i believe the sweet spot is somewhere between Florsheim and RM Williams

If you were going to buy chelsea boots for example, you could spend a bit more than what you'd pay for Florsheim, and get a pair of Mongrel 805 boots for about $190

Mongrels aren't goodyear welted, but replacing them every few years would still be more economical than buying RMWs and getting them resoled

Or you could pay more again and get Meermin chelseas for about $430. These are resolable, with less initial outlay compared to RMW

        • I've got the Mongrel 805s. Someone the other day at work asked if they were RMs.
Been generally happy with them for the price. Comfortable and look decent. I did notice this morning when I was putting them on, that the back inside heel has a lot of little cuts on it - turns out my office chair has sharp edges on the bottom side of the legs and I seem to rest my feet there. Not sure whether they'd have been less likely to cut with higher quality leather or not.
Anyway, that's a small issue - generally been happy with them after ~6 months.

    • Bought RMs less than 2 years ago, I treat them well (I moisture and polish them as needed) and work in an office wearing them daily. The leather is peeling and permanently scuffed in places.

I had a pair of shoes before this (can’t recall the brand) made of leather that never once scuffed or had the leather surface tear. They were below $200 and way better quality in terms of leather, unfortunately the sole fell off due to no Goodyear welt. Even my fake leather bellroy phone case is more resilient than the leather on my RMs.

Will never waste money on RMs again.

  • I wear Yanko. But the prices have gone up significantly after covid. But they are so much better and use proper leather
