Good game but couldn't get into it because of the combat

    • +1

It is definitely the let down of the game, I wish they did more to improve it from the first game

      • +8

It is already much better than the previous game.

        • +17

          I said MOOOAR

      • Upvoted you.

    • +3

Truly great game, and if the combat bothers you there are mods that make it much easier.

You can also run and shoot with a bow to good effect during most encounters, and also use terrain to your advantage.

    • +3

The combat definitely has a learning curve and can be pretty hit or miss depending on your preferences.

It's unfortunate that you don't unlock the master strike within the first 2 hours (or at least I didn't!) as that's a game changer.

    • +5

You can’t take on a group of people (not at the beginning anyway), which is quite close to real life.

I learned to strike Bandits first while they had their sword still sheathed. 😁 Not waiting for them to get ready is the trick. And use Mutt to distract them while you strike their back. 1403 was dirty!!!

    • +5

The combat is pretty cruisy once you get master strikes

      • Why do lots of people say it’s complicated though?

        • +2

You need to read your opponent's moves and not slash thoughtlessly. Each movement has a counter.

The game isn't great at teaching you what to look for, you need learn the routines through practice. Training with Bernard.

          Most people can't be bothered.

Your character levels up with the practice training also and the fight becomes more forgiving against lower level enemies.

@jaimex2: It's also you start with rags, nerfed skills, no armour, rusty sword etc and you just about anyone you run into feels OP for a long while

          • @jaimex2: In fairness, I couldn’t be bothered with Clair obscur after about 15 hours, so over the mechanics. See how this one goes

            • @raz0r11: I pushed through 5 hours of Clair Obsur but just didn't enjoy it or get into it.

    • I loved the KCD series but I did try out KCD1 first even thought KCD2 was already out because I heard the combat was a lot more involving than most other action games and I didn't know if I'd be able to get into it. But while it was frustrating at the start, it was quite entertaining, realistic and did get easier over time. KCD2 refined combat somewhat but it's still nothing like any other games so yeah it's not going to be everyone's cup of team.

But combat aside, it had a fantastic story, excellent characters and as an RPG, it hit on so many levels. It punched well above its weight when you consider it's a relatively small studio

Of one the greatest games ive played in 35+ years of gaming.

My Henry is a drunken, whoring thief. I try to match him drink for drink.

    • +5

My favourite trick - pay for an information or a service (learn new skill for $1000 groschen etc…) and then rob the money back. 😆

Once your thieving skill is high enough you have ‘options’.

    • -1

might be free at Epic next year.

  • I am still playing thru the first one and enjoying it. What do you like/dislike compared to the first one?

    • +2

It's pretty much identical. Better graphics and bigger map.

    • +2

must buy if you like 1,almost everything is improved, QoL is incredible

      • +1

My biggest plus with the 2nd game is that the story is more linear, faster pace and keeps you engaged the entire way through. I remember the first game been a massive slog at some points. Not to mention the wild difficulty spike as soon as you get to Runt.

  • Oh man!

  • $15 worth the upgrade to royal edition? Have had this on my radar to pickup on sale for a while….

    • +5

Definitely worth it in my opinion. For the own house and forge and a cloister DLC it’s a decent value.

I paid $66 few weeks ago and thought it was a good deal (Royal Ed.).

  • If someone had a copy from the high seas, would their save file work with this? Asking for a friend..

    • +2

Don't see why not, just make sure your friend puts the save file(s)/folder in C:\Users[Windows Username]\Saved Games\kingdomcome2\saves (there might also be a folder for autosaves so make sure to put that there as well)

    • From memory it does however sometimes the cloud sync may require some file modding.

  • It gets good reviews but I tried playing it when they had a play for free period and found it wasnt what I consider to be an “open world” rpg. Seemed to drag you along a particular story line rather than letting you decide where you wanted to go and what you wanted to do.

    • +4

There’s a main storyline + heaps of quite interesting side quests.

  • +3

I played it and found the story dialogue can be quite lengthy and taxing

    • +2

Yes the dialogue is lengthy but theyve some how made it more engaging then other games like starfield etc. Not sure how they done it. Is it the way the conversations are shot?

      • +6

its because the writing is actually good, the characters are compelling, great voice actors, and quests where you actually care about the outcomes.
i.e. the complete opposite of Starfield

  • +1

This game finally clicked with me when I realised there wasn't a skill tree to put points into.

For an extra 2c it's a far better choice to get it directly via steam so you have the initial refund window if you're not keen on it.

  • Any thoughts on the $81.37 Saga Bundle? Worth the money?

  • +7

    My personal GOTY.

  • +2

Equal GOTY with E33 for me. To roll straight from this into E33 was gaming heaven earlier in the year.

  • Soooo… can I get straight into this without having any idea about the first one? is there a recap in-game or any attempt at reminding you what the story so far is (also in-game)?

    • +1

The main story follows directly on from the events in the first one. The flashbacks and references seem to be enough to get by but I don't recommend it.

      • Thanks, will look at the Saga bundle then

  • +1

This is a triple-A game. I found it much more immersive and complex than Witcher 3. This is probably the first RPG where I am happy to play the role rather than just rush through the objectives.
